He nodded in farewell as she left, before turning his gaze back to the window. For the common man, they’d see nothing productive of simply peering out, but when he looked through the glass, he not only saw the world, but what he’d do with it. “In due time…” It was a response both to Ceto and his ambitions. His ambitions were limitless, and among them were the many gifts he wanted to give to mankind. He reflected on how Prometheus gave mankind fire, and how he felt it as his obligation to do something similar. Prometheus’ very name meant “forethought”, and he thought of the future, as did Ves. As the organization’s name implied, it was only ever the beginning, whether he lived or not. Val would understand, and whenever she arrived, she’d know where to find him.

It was later than she intended to arrive, but changing her schedule all of a sudden had unsurprising difficulties. She nevertheless found someone to handle her duties temporarily while she left for the tower, crossing her arms as the elevator ascended to the floor that very few were authorized to enter. With a gentle push, the door was opened to his office. She stepped inside, seeing him beside the window, déjà vu because she’d walked on him standing by the window. “Good afternoon, Ves. You sought my company?” It wasn’t like him to contact her on short notice; she suspected something was bothering him, and she was right. According to the front desk, Ceto was there as well, but since Val didn’t see her on her way or inside his office, it was safe to guess she was still near. She approached him, standing only a few feet behind him, patiently awaiting a response.

“I’d have hoped this could’ve simply been out of a desire to see you. Unfortunately, though I am glad to see you, I am in need of your assistance more than I am of mere company.” He hardly ever asked for help, and in the occasions he did, they were for things that he truly wasn’t capable of doing at the time. “I need you to continue the project for the reparation of cloning degradation. Its research has been reintegrated into the main system, and I’ve already discarded all the unavailing variables. I’ve also contacted the original members of the project and hired the new.” He turned around to face her, then lifted his sleeve to show her just why he’d done all this. “I don’t know how long until I’ll succumb.” He disliked those three words, that admittance that he was incapable of figuring it out, because there was no accurate way to tell yet, though he could estimate as it worsened.
