Name: Ridley Eloise Wescott
Born Ridley after her maternal grandfather, she was given a second more appropriate name for a girl. Eloise is her chosen name in everyday life. She often helps out her father with the family horse-breeding by handling correspondence (in which she uses her given name of Ridley.)

Note: She will turn 20 in 1797.

An only child, Ridley Eloise Wescott was deemed by a doctor to likely be the only child borne -- granted the babe survived. A "miraculous" birth according to some considering how wracked with illness her mother was. She was raised primarily by her father as her mother never could seem to recover from illness for more than a brief time. Educated by day governesses in place of her mother, she has all the training one may expect for a proper lady. Considered land-owning gentry, she has not deemed it immediate to find a husband. Instead she spends a lot of time nursing her mother and helping her father with records, books, or correspondence regarding the horse breeding business.

A dramatic woman, Eleanor -- affectionately called Ellie -- has a flair for exaggeration and gossip. A bubbly personality, she finds dealing with annoyance or frustration to be best done in the absolute silence of ignoring the offending party. In another time period she likely would have become an actress (although whether she would have had any talent in it...), in this one she is a wife, as well as a dressmaker like her mother and grandmother before her. She however battles frequently with insomnia and has a great desire to write. Optimistic and joyous during the day, night often turns her into a more contemplative creature with bouts of pessimism (aggravated by insomniac spells). These are the times her creativity and her connection with Talaith run the strongest.

Eleanor & Talaith: Complicated; nothing is quite simple between these two other than the fact they are Chosen and Guardian. A relationship built on strong emotion -- fierce love and devotion, tumultuous jealousy and resentment -- there are few moments of tranquility. In short, Eleanor is both Talaith's court and a queen -- the first, perhaps only, human that she loves dearly -- of her world. Talaith is Eleanor's second -- Colin is her first -- love and for a hind that only really cares for one human, it stings (Eleanor's long given up on trying to explain that Talaith is not less important for this difference).
Eleanor & Colin: Unlike many romances of the time period, these two truly do love one another. It's not epic nor tumultuous. It is constant. That doesn't mean however they're forever trapped in the stage of lovebirds. They fight, argue, disagree and yet they never actually seem to be angry with one another. Their relationship's solidarity may be a byproduct of the fact Colin's parents were a match of money (and never did seem to grow much affection for one another) while Eleanor's father was a "typical" male with a number of known (and unknown) dalliances -- one of which produced her half sister Lucy (a hedgewitch). Or it may be that they're lucky to have found each other.

Meaning (Origin): Crown, Diadem, Garland, One Who Wears a Royal Crown (Welsh)

In one word: Queen. The epitome of grace and beauty on the outside, she is quite plagued by insecurity on the inside -- fear that she is not enough, resentment that she is not the most important being to her chosen, uncertainty about her place in Eleanor's life. She is not a cruel spirit although vindictiveness does run like a thick vein through her being, a vein where grudges are held tightly. She has a great propensity for kindness and a fine nose for nurturing the potential in others -- much as a Queen might groom a princess (or prince) -- or what she thinks they should aspire to be which is rarely the same as they themselves wish. This is due largely to the ignorance of mortals, perhaps even those lesser than herself.

Colin & Talaith: Competitors and yet, it may very well be Colin that has the biggest insight to Talaith. As someone who also loves Eleanor dearly, he tries to be gracious to the hind. Which is not an easy task when she makes no illusion that she would not at all mind if he left (or dropped dead). He realizes much of her resentment towards him comes from his place in his wife's life and is of the mind there's nothing to be done -- she clearly isn't of the same opinion -- about this not at all peaceful co-existence. He does often try to explain humans, human life, monogamy, to the hind. Whether or not it does any good or sinks into her thick skull...

Eleanor felt the call a few days before her wedding; lucky for Colin (and herself) she returned in time for the day of the ceremony. Talaith was her something new.
