Name: Ja'son formally Jameson

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Sexual Orientation: Straight

Craft/Rank: Dragonrider

History: He was born and bred in Malvren Weyr. As the child of one of the dragonriders, he didn't really know which one. Just a father he may have passed or done favors for without knowing. He wasn't claimed as most weyrbrats aren't and he grew up under the tutelage of kitchen hands and other workers. He grew up along side Dragonriders and Wherhandlers alike. Though he held no preference. He did listen to the talk around the Weyr. About revolution. He listened to the gossip and heard about losing Queens and talk of a revolution. Of the Wherhandlers being tired of the hierarchy. He mostly just stuck with his friends in being a troublemaker and having fun where he could.

During any upsets that happened, he tended to be scarce. When talk of revolution came, he could only notice that it made everyone nervous and there were many whispers and hidden conversations that he was nevr privy too. He was considered "too young" whenever he asked so he just went on with his life.

When the revolution became a reality, he hid during the fighting. Hiding with several people together while the fighting and bloodshed took place. When it was over and Malvren was taken over, he and others were forced to choose a side. Not knowing what would happen if he picked wrong. He chose the Revolutionists side. Though it was a choice made in fear he didn't regret it once things started to settle down and people started to build their lives around this new idea. He started to agree with the revolutionists. Dragons were necessary yes but they didn't need to be held to higher standards and above all. He began to believe that Whers were just as useful if not more and was essentially brainwashed from what he had grown up with.

He also began to look down at the atypicals. Seeing them as small and weak. It was something he hoped that he if ever became a dragonrider not to impress.

It wasn't long after he was taken to Benden as a Candidate, simply on the fact that he was a weyrbrat, the officials trying to keep some sense of tradition. There he was given a speech about the new way of life for Keller's faction and he believed into it, despite how he was raised along with dragonriders. During the Hatching, he was quite surprised to get a green. He had figured and was confident he would get a dragon, but a green was not what he expected. Despite the shock, he immediately bonded with her. Karath was strong and hardheaded and his perfect companion. Often he could be found calling her "Darling" or "Babe" in endearment.

After he impressed her and grew with her to be a wingrider, he started to feel the difference between the Whers and the Dragons more clearly. Him and Karath had hoped with the old way gone, they would be treated better even with her being a green. But it was worse, there was clear favoritism.

When the raid on Benden happened, he fought in a wing as required and earned claw scars on his arms and chest for the effort. He retreated to Benden like many other Keller supporters and yet he wasn't happy with this new arrangement. He likely would have joined the coup but with Keller's paranoia and hunting of them, he wouldn't risk Karath.

It was during the final raid on Malvren that he and the coup survivors switched sides. Fighting against Keller's forces and finally winning.

He was taken to Trine like the prisoners and the other dragonriders and questioned heavily over his parts in the revolution and even if he was involved with the plot to kill Queen Sharath. He had no knowledge of that, only rumors. He was questioned about his loyalties and told that he would be watched closely.

For 3 turns he was watched by others and he felt the difference. He proved his loyalty though, through duties and fighting Thread. He did his best to prove that he no longer supported Keller's ideals of equality and since he had been at Trine, his and Karath's life had been better. She was treated with more respect and when the power shift happened with the Queens no longer being in control, He was actually supportive of that. Karath was the most supportive of it. Being able to earn her and Ja'son's place and give them respect made her happy. When the Rogue Queens left, as much as Ja'son understood the want for power, he wouldn't go with them and Karath wouldn't have wanted him to. She fully believed in herself, not in them. Even though she would have been happy to teach those girls a lesson about being the best, even she with her stubbornness couldn't deny a Queen's command.

Now, Karath and Ja'son are still doing their duty, he is no longer watched but there is still distrust between him and those from Trine. He and Karath work hard to prove themselves but also to be the best. Karath would happily battle any other oversized hatchlings to earn her and Ja'son a place of leadership. Infact she has determined there is no better place for Ja'son than a Wingleader and he was inclined to agree so that is their new goal together.

Description: Tall, about 6'0" with a strong upper body but not disproportionate. He has strong hands and is quite fast for his build. He had dark brown hair that lightens to light brown, or even blonde in the sun, yet has a grey patch right on his temple. Something every male in his family has. He has some trouble keeping his weight down as he comes from bigger men. He has dark brown eyes and a beard that is already starting to grow out. Right now it's simply scruff but if left alone it'll grow into a thick beard like his father's. His skin is an olive tone that tans to a dark brown in long sun exposure, but usually turns dark red right before that. He has a deeper voice and though he can appear fierce, he has a very goofy smile, showing that he can be a kind kid. He has a tattoo on his left forearm of a flit wrapped around itself as if it was asleep.

Personality: In a few short words... He's an inconsiderate a*****e. He doesn't like authority and doesn't like to listen when he thinks he's right. It causes a lot of friction between others and himself. He works with the Metalsmithers because they are hard men like him, though he is still learning and has trouble believing he is wrong at all. He likes to take charge of situations and he doesn't always know best, though he carries the confidence to fool anyone that he was right all along.

Though he is an a*****e. He does have a softer side. Usually he doesn't show it much and he may not seem like the kind of guy to have any kind of "side" other than a jerk. But he can be kind. He has been known to actually care about a person or two. Even a girl or two. He also doesn't mind animals all that much. Pets don't seem to bother him, at all and he has even thought about having one himself.

Along with being a bit of a softy on the inside. He has a "schadenfreude" sense of humor. He finds many inappropriate things funny. Sure maybe not at the time, but eventually, he'll laugh about it. He happens to have a loud laugh and a very recognizable one. He also has a goofy smile. Something that his mother claims makes her remember when he was nothing more than a child. He seems younger when he smiles and it might be why he has more of a sneer or a smirk on his face than a smile usually.

He has little hobbies of collecting worthless gemstones. something he's always done and now with working with the metalsmithers, it's easier to find. Because Malvren is right on the beach, he can be often down there, finding sea shells and watching the waves. He has thought sometimes of going out on a boat and trying his hand at fishing but he never found the time or the energy to really try it. His other little hobbies include really people watching. He likes to watch others move about tasks. Paying attention if he finds it interesting and often wondering if he could do it himself.

After all of the events that occurred, Ja'son realized that he liked Trine's way of life better. There was no paranoid tyrant trying to control them and truly he never really believed everything Keller spouted. It was survival and naievity that started him on that path. He ad seen the strength of the atypicals in Trine's forces and he believed that they were just as valuable as the traditional colors.

With him being a greenrider, he knew this was a chance for him and Karath to be safer and possibly happy. Though while his stance on Authority hasn't changed at all. He still doesn't like it if he doesn't agree with it. However with the power shift and with Karath he doesn't oppose it in the same way he might of before.

Before he would have shouted and screamed and possibly come to blows about the rules or orders. Now, after the experience of living with a paranoid mad man, he had learned to hide many of his true feelings and instead push on, showing no real anger or pain on his face or in his speech but secretly feeling it.

He finds now though that he misses the ocean and the beaches of Malvren. He misses finding sea glass and shells and gemstones within Malvren's caves and in the sand. There is a great longing for the home he grew up in or maybe a way to make Trine feel more like a home than it has the past several turns.

Other: He received the tattoo after a few Holdless began to live in the Weyr and it was done when he was very drunk on wine snuck from the kitchens by him and some other brats. He chose a flit as he had never had one before and found them to be quite cute but it had hurt so bad that he had left it uncolored despite the availability and the slight laughing of the man doing the tattoo. He does regret it now but there is no way to get rid of it. And because of this... He isn't much for gorging himself on wine... Much

Name: Karath
Size: Above Average
Build: Above Average
Personality: Charge!

With this green there is no holding back; she is large and in charge and it would be better for everyone else if they realize that sooner rather than later! Karath will never be one of those dragons who wonders who they are and what their purpose in life is, Karath is Karath and so far as she is concerned she was born to lead. She has passion, charisma, and courage enough to fill an entire wing of dragons so why should she not? Does she think she's better than others?... Well maybe, quietly to herself, but she won't mention it; aloud all she will say is that she has all of the right qualities to take the reins so it's only good sense that she should be allowed to do so.

Karath however is not a peacetime leader in fact in times of peace she probably wouldn't know what to do with herself; this is a dragon who quite simply delights in training herself to meet the foe and - when the time comes - she will exalt in the charge and the rush of battle. Rushing however is one of her downfalls as well as one of her strengths; she will charge in against terrible odds, but on the other hand she will charge in against terrible odds. What is courageous is not always clever but Karath hates to act any other way and despises underhanded tactics, have you no honour? Face her like a dragon, don't sneak like a tunnelsnake! Karath is not afraid to die in battle and should she come to a position of power she will not be afraid to risk the lives of her followers either; much much be risked for the glory of victory, and it is better to die valiantly in battle than of some sickness so far as she is concerned.

When she isn't charging headlong into battle or towards her goals Karath enjoys the company of others and it is in social situations that the softer side of her blazing charisma comes out. Karath really doesn't have a cruel bone in her body for anyone who hasn't insulted her honour - if you insult her honour or her rider's she will however challenge you to a duel - and she will always seek to encourage shyer characters to join in with whatever's going on. She also has a great sense of humor though sometimes a rather dark one but with good people sense she is savvy to what kind of humor will go down well with the dragons she's with at the time and will tune herself to that.

In short Karath is a powerhouse of passion and ambition. While she may be rash she has endless courage and a softer side to show to the world when she isn't charging into battle!

Why me? Both Jameson and Karath are filled with confidence in themselves and both like to be in charge where possible. They might not always know best, and Karath's rashness may get them into some sticky situations, but one of the most important things about being a leader is being certain, and they're certainly both that pretty well all the time or at least they can seem it! Both of them believe that dragons and riders should be held to the same standard as anyone else and Karath will be more than happy to work beside her rider to prove their worth! Finally where Jameson can be abrasive Karath has a softer social side; she can help them get along with people and perhaps smooth the path ahead of them a little by ruffling fewer feathers!

Click to show.In Norse mythology, a valkyrie (from Old Norse valkyrja "chooser of the slain") is one of a host of female figures who choose those who may die in battle and those who may live. Selecting among half of those who die in battle (the other half go to the goddess Freyja's afterlife field Fólkvangr), the valkyries bring their chosen to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin. There, the deceased warriors become einherjar (Old Norse "single (or once) fighters"). When the einherjar are not preparing for the events of Ragnarök, the valkyries bear them mead. Valkyries also appear as lovers of heroes and other mortals, where they are sometimes described as the daughters of royalty, sometimes accompanied by ravens, and sometimes connected to swans or horses.

Valkyries are attested in the Poetic Edda, a book of poems compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources; the Prose Edda and Heimskringla (by Snorri Sturluson), and Njáls saga, a Saga of Icelanders, all written in the 13th century. They appear throughout the poetry of skalds, in a 14th-century charm, and in various runic inscriptions.

Kára is a valkyrie attested in the prose epilogue of the Poetic Edda poem Helgakviða Hundingsbana II. The epilogue details that "there was a belief in the pagan religion, which we now reckon an old wives' tale, that people could be reincarnated," and that the deceased valkyrie Sigrún and her dead love Helgi Hundingsbane were considered to have been reborn as another Helgi and valkyrie couple; Helgi as Helgi Haddingjaskati and Sigrún as the daughter of Halfdan—the valkyrie Kára. The epilogue states that further information about the two can be found in the work Káruljóð. However, Káruljóð has not survived.

The etymology of the name Kára either means "the wild, stormy one" (based on Old Norse afkárr, meaning "wild") or "curl" or "the curly one" (from Old Norse kárr). Otto Höfler theorizes a connection between the "curl" etymology and the Odinic cult name Odinkar that appears in runic inscriptions, which means "the one with the (long?) Odin's curls."
