Handler
Name: Dinah
Age: 34
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Journeyman Wherhandler
History:
Dinah is a Benden-born Weyrbrat, daughter of a green wherhandler and a mystery father she really doesn't care about. Actually, she doesn't care about her mother that much either, because in her humble opinion, the woman is a few glows short of a basket. Intelligence notwithstanding, though, she did get one thing right when she chose wherhandling, so Dinah does have some modicum of respect for her. Dinah never wanted to be a dragonrider; the boys get the good colors, with the exception of gold, and there aren't enough of those to risk Standing for and getting picked by one of the little colors. And besides, dragons and riders are a little too co-dependent for her tastes; at least if a wher or wherhandler dies, the other half of the pair can move on (fortunately for Dinah).
Recognizing whers as vastly superior for their toughness and and just being all-around better, Dinah pursued wherhandling eagerly, and was diligent in all her training, determined that her wher would be the best damn watch-wher anyone ever saw. She approached for a clutch and selected an egg fully expecting to get a stereotypical, ferocious wher that would strike fear into the hearts of tunnelsnakes, felines, and wild whers alike, but what she got was a disconcertingly affectionate green who proclaimed with undying love that she was Dinahsk. She was not fierce or frightening at all, quite tolerant of humans in fact, but her devotion at least made her obedient. When the Revolution came, they joined it, but Dinahsk was ultimately killed during the fighting. Though she would never admit it aloud to anyone else, Dinah had come to love the cheerful green, and losing her was more difficult than she showed.
After the Revolution, she approached for another clutch, and her new egg hatched into yet another green. Dinsk was the polar opposite of Dinahsk, everything Dinah had ever wanted in a wher: intelligent and vicious. However, as much as Dinah appreciated her new partner's savagery, Dinsk never really had her affection, nor would she have wanted it. The little green perished during the raid on Benden, and though Dinah certainly wasn't happy about it, it didn't break her heart. There wasn't time to mourn, anyway; with the battle still raging, she bonded herself to the wher of a fallen handler, a beast of a blue who would later come to think of himself as Dinask. Together, they escaped to Malvren, where they continued to serve almost until the very end. During the final fight for Malvren, Dinah was injured and knocked unconscious, but survived courtesy of Dinask's stalwart guard and the timely intervention of a rider, who rescued both handler and wher.
They survived Holdless for nearly a turn as part of a group of loyal Wherholders, but with time the group separated and everyone went their own ways. Dinah and Dinask took up work as caravan guards, a job that eventually reunited them with a fellow revolutionary-turned-Trader, Kesin. They joined up with her small caravan, providing some much-needed muscle for an admittedly rather shady option, but Dinah isn't the least bit bothered by questionable trading practices. It's a living, and that's all that really matters.
Description:
Stands 5'6", of mostly average build, but a little on the muscular side of the spectrum - Dinah takes fitness very seriously. Her hair is straight and light brown, and she keeps it cut to her shoulders. Brown eyes.
Personality:
Dinah is, first and foremost, tough. Her capability for endurance, both physical and mental, is high. She can deal with just about anything you throw at her, and she's proud of it. She's proud of that image, too, and cultivates and maintains her tough persona very carefully. If she gets sick or hurt, she'll do her best to hide it, and if she can't, she'll at least play it off as not being a big deal. She has no tolerance for weakness - or the appearance thereof - in herself, and the same goes for the rest of the world. She despises weaklings and whiners who can't pull their own weight, and she won't hesitate to let them know. This makes her into something of a bully, who pushes others around (verbally or physically, depending on the situation) in an attempt to toughen them up...or, failing that, to at least get them out of her sight. Accordingly, her temper is incredibly short, and it doesn't take much to provoke her into an argument or a fight. Early on it tended to get her into trouble, but by this point, most people who know her know to stay out of her way, so serious episodes have become fewer and farther between.
If Dinah likes you, though, she really likes you. She respects 'her' kind of people: capable, dependable ones who don't shy away from work or life. Even moreso than physical strength, what she really appreciates is intelligence. If someone is up to her standards, she wants them to be her friend, to the point where she might even try to badger them into it - the best need to stick together, after all. Even among friends, she can be pushy, whether it's with advice or just with what they should do tonight. Her sense of humor, unsurprisingly, can be abrasive and occasionally mean, although she doesn't really mean it when it comes to her friends...not that she has all that many.
Other: Dinah is officially death on whers.
Wher
Name: Dinask
Age: 35
Colour: Blue
Description: x
Huge/Average
Personality:
Dinask is one big blue, on par with an average brown, but very lanky as far as whers go. He's a lot of leg, but even after 35 turns, gives the impression of not knowing quite what to do with it all. He got plenty of size, but very little coordination. He's a bumbling, clumsy fellow, and it's not uncommon for him to trip over his own feet and generally make a mess of things. He does try to fight when it's required of him, but he's just as likely to get beaten up as do any beating up of his own. He's a fairly easygoing sort, relatively tolerant of others' proximity to him, but can be touchy about their proximity to his handler. After losing his original handler during the Revolution, and then his second in the Wherwars, Dinask is highly protective of Dinah, and will often try to put at least some part of himself between her and anyone she might be trying to interact with. If he really disapproves of them, he'll park himself directly in the way, but it's only if they're truly threatening that he will snarl or snap.
Dinask is eager to please, and will follow his beloved handler's commands with little to no hesitation.
