Michael smiled more broadly and nodded. It was a relief to have it decided finally. He hadn't known what they were- social conventions had changed so much in a century! He had never courted anyone entirely properly, so here he was, post-mortem, falling in love.
"And the second question- will you dance with me?"

The second question had Lissie smiling. Dancing? Now? “I’d love to,” she said. She sipped at her tea. “Do you want to dance?” She asked, setting her cup down.

Michael smirked. It was a familiar, albeit particular expression that one learned to be suspicious of fairly quickly after meeting Michael, or at least had been once. Nowadays there was less malice in his eyes, and a very good chance that it would be a nice surprise, which was endlessly confusing to the people who hadn't known him well before and were starting to now.
"Do you trust me?" he asked as he got up. A brow arched, a teasing expression of a faux-posh 'I know something you don't know' rose up.

Oh? Lissie studied him. She knew that expression, even as brief a time as she’d known Michael. “Of course,” she said. He’d never given her any reason not to.
“What are you up to, Michael?”

He nodded, smiling more gently now. Nobody wanted to follow instruction that blinded them while their instructor was smirking. Even Michael probably would have been intimidated in that case.
"Close your eyes for me."

Lissie closed her eyes and held out her hand, reaching for Michael’s. What was he up to?

Michael came around and took Lissie's hand, gently guiding her up and away from the table, which had actually disappeared.
"Alright, open them." The small room had become a sprawling ballroom. The darkness outside was appropriate for the time of day, and it was lit beautifully with elaborate candelabras. The music began before Lissie's eyes were fully open, performed by a 'live' band that Michael remembered from his youth. The men involved had likely been dead for over a hundred years now with great-great grandchildren.
The blonde spirit was smirking again, but more kindly this time. He still held Lissie's hand, and bowed low as a more formal invitation to dance.

Lissie opened her eyes. She cast her gaze around, eyes widening. “H—?” The word caught in her throat. It was an illusion, a beautiful one. She looked to Michael.
“This is beautiful, Michael,” she said, taking his hand and smiling. Dancing with the man she loved, in a beautiful place like this. She would have never imagined it.

Though it was very likely, Michael wasn't entirely sure that Lissie had been taught to dance. He didn't want to embarrass her, so he took her hand and began to dance slowly at first. When it became clear that she knew what she was doing, he led her around the floor in grand motions, always smiling, often gazing into her eyes.
He had felt alive again after his whitelighting event, but he felt even more so now.

How did Michael do that? Every moment she spent with him became her happiest. They danced across the floor, the beautiful roombecoming a blur as Lissie focused on Michael. She couldn’t have helped the smile, even if she’d wanted to.
“I love you, Michael.”

"I love you too," he said, his grin once more not spiteful nor mischievous. How strange that love should come to him in a time when living alone was much more acceptable? When courting and marriage were the norm, he hadn't had a serious relationship not once.
