Kh'men
Age: 30 Turns (Birthday 9/16)
Gender: male
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Former Craft/Rank: Apprentice Weaver
Current Rank: Wingrider
History: Kharmeen was born to a small family holding outside Eron hold to Khassern and Annata, 30 Turns ago. His family is compromised of mostly fishers and weavers who specialized in fishing needs. Kharmeen learned both crafts early on, along with all his other siblings and cousins. His early life was fairly standard. Working to make sure the holding prospered, Kharmeen worked with his father on the sea and his mother at night with her weaving. In fact, as he grew, he became close with his cousin, Ahmenna.
Then it happened. The dragons were always around but never really in their lives. When they went to Gathers, you would see some greens or blues, occasionally the larger dragons. But then, they started showing up looking for some sort of weed and bugs. More than once, they would have someone dropping by asking questions or taking hospitality. With successful clutches at Trine and around, Kharmeen assumed with others that things were returning to normal. Yet, Eron hold kept guards on their tithes and were ever present. The dolphins warned that Thread was returning. Kharmeen was drilled in how to use a knife and be silent in the shadows. And it was a good thing as well.
Betrayal struck.
While Eron hold was never attacked, the Lord there feared for the safety of his people. He asked for volunteers to come and stay several moons to make sure that no rogues would come and try to take them over. Assigned with a guard unit along with other men from his family, Kharmeen made several friends with riders who dropped in to make sure that the outlaying holders and craftsmen were taken care of; it was suggested that he stand the next time eggs were on the Sands. And so, he goes with Ahmeena to see where his fate lies.
In the previous clutch, the revolutionaries struck. They took eggs from the sands and tried to get them back to one of the wherholds. Kharmeen had gone with one of the Search groups and they managed to bring back the weyrlings. His cousin, Ahmenna, stayed at Hatching Grounds and impressed a headstrong green who called herself Phiroth. Kharmeen stayed and supported his cousin. He also stayed to help rebuild Trine. During this hatching, he decided he would go back to his home near Eron if he didn't impress. His time was over at the weyr...
Until Maicoth made his entrance. Kharmeen watched the brown as the brown watched the others hatch out. Finally, the brown made his mind and chose Kharmeen. And so, it seems, Kharmeen will stay at Trine for a while as Kh'men, rider of brown Maicoth.
[TIME JUMP]
For a while, all seemed well. Or at least, at ease. Though Kh'men did not like Keller or his methods, the violence appeared to have come to an end. Content at Trine and not sure where he wanted to go with his life, Kh'men and Maicoth focused on performing well in their wing and helping to put Trine back to rights. As someone who wasn't quite a leader but not quite a follower, Kh'men often mediated and listened to the frustrations of other riders. When Sharath rose and it was a good flight, he hoped that perhaps, things were moving in a better direction.
But then, Sharath was poisoned and the clutch was poor. Maicoth angered for the attack on innocent life and Kh'men was not far behind him. Though he did not join the attacks, Kh'men made sure he was available as messenger, passenger carrier, and whatever odds and ends jobs were needed that he could fulfill with his brown dragon. In that final brutal coup, he lost track of Ahmenna, not sure if had gone to join the fight or something much more sinister. Roughly a Turn later, she returned but was tight lipped about what happened. Since then, he has tried to mend the bond he had with her.
For now, Kh'men has gone back to his spot as a listener, a supporter, and a solid rider/dragon to be counted on. He has allowed his natural instinct to guide them slowly up the ladder and he hopes to soon become a wing-second.
Description: At 5'11", Kharmeen comes from a family of tall and sturdy men. In fact, it is a joke in the family if you are shorter than your father is. His skin is deeply tanned from working on the fishing boats and has odd lighter scars on his arms and hands from working with nets and ropes. His build is medium, sturdy. Kharmeen's muscle is not for show, being able to haul catches, nets, barrels and whatever else was necessary to get the work done. His eyes are a lighter brown that stand out against his tanned skin and his hair is a deeper brown with red highlights from the sun. He keeps it short to his collar so that it doesn't interfere or get caught on any equipment. He can't get the story of a man getting scalped from having long hair out of his mind. Kharmeen prefers to wear browns and blues. His favorite outfit being dark brown pants, a lighter cream colored shirt with blue bandana to keep the sweat out his face and dark blue boots. His nose is slightly crooked from being broken as a youth.
Personality: You know that tree that has weathered every major storm and seen all changes? A good analogy to Kharmeen. He tends to remain calm and stand steady no matter what the challenge. Taught at an early age that everyone pitches in and does their own for the greater good, Kharmeen has no problems helping others and being the solid rock they need to steady themselves on. Because of this, sometimes his elders would pair him with another who was under performing or not sure of themselves. Kharmeen is an adept teacher though he can get a little frazzled when someone doesn't pick up on a skill as quickly as he does. Then his tone may turn almost snappish and curt. Soft-spoken with a deep voice, Kharmeen is also a deep thinker who doesn't speak until he feels the need to-in that way, he is quite the opposite of Ahmenna. However, once moved to anger and passion, Kharmeen will hold onto those emotions until he feels he has been redeemed or allowed to vent his full fury.
Kharmeen doesn't like strangers. And he certainly doesn't like outsiders poking their noses where they don't belong. He can be extremely stubborn in letting others in and trusting his instincts to guide him better than what others tell him. After all, a fisher has to trust himself when faced with an unknown sea. But once that trust is earned and given, it is kept in the highest regard. And woe to those who betray him or his family. While he may not be able to exact the vengeance he wants, Kharmeen will do his best to be cold and make things hard.
Virtues: Strong, calm and level-headed, loyal, hard-working
Vices: Bears grudges, suspicious, impatient with slower/lazy people

Name: Maicoth
Size: Above Average
Build: Average
Personality:
Right off the bat it was obvious that Maicoth was not like his rambunctious siblings. He is neither aggressive, nor overly social or gregarious. Maicoth is a very reserved and proud dragon. Holding himself aloof from most and choosing to socialize only with a rare few. That is not to say Maicoth ignores those around him. In fact he is very aware of the happenings within the weyr. Maicoth watches and listens to the eddies of rumor and can usually be counted on to know the truth within all the gossip. Whether he shares that with more than Kharmeen is up to question.
Maicoth is loyal. Loyal to himself, and loyal to Kharmeen. He is protective of their interests, and stands his ground when challenged. Not quite a leader, not quite a follower, it will be up to Kharmeen to determine their place in the social hierarchy. Maicoth will take some goading into productivity. If it doesn't directly effect his own well being, he's not terribly interested in it. One thing he does like, or at least tolerates with some amusement, is children and hatchlings. He's not one to actively play with but despite being so large, he's surprisingly gentle and careful around them.
So when Sharath was attacked and her eggs harmed, Maicoth was moved to anger. He agreed that Benden should be punished but stayed back from the fighting. Kh'men thought that they would be better put to use as the go-fer, go between, messenger and whatever jobs they could be made available for at the time.
For all his dignified ways, Maicoth can be surprisingly loud in his vocalizations. Thrums, croons, hisses and bugles when appropriate are very audible. When Maicoth is happy, it will be just as obvious as when he's upset. Luckily for Kharmeen, Maicoth's mood is pretty easy to lift. He adores water, loves to swim and sunbathe in the lakes surrounding Trine. It doesn't take much beyond that to get his brown into a very favorable mood.
Inspired by The Maine Coon, the gentle giants of the cat world.
The Maine Coon, also known as American Longhair, is a breed of domestic cat with a distinctive physical appearance and valuable hunting skills. It is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America, specifically native to the state of Maine, where it is the official state cat.
Although the Maine Coon's exact origins and date of introduction to the United States are unknown, many theories have been proposed. The breed was popular in cat shows in the late 19th century, but its existence became threatened when long-haired breeds from overseas were introduced in the early 20th century. The Maine Coon has since made a comeback and is now one of the most popular cat breeds in the world.
Maine Coons are known as the "gentle giants" and possess above-average intelligence, making them relatively easy to train. They are known for being loyal to their family and cautious—but not mean—around strangers, but are independent and not clingy. The Maine Coon is generally not known for being a "lap cat" but their gentle disposition makes the breed relaxed around dogs, other cats, and children. Many Maine Coons have a fascination with water and some theorize that this personality trait comes from their ancestors, who were aboard ships for much of their lives. Maine Coons are also well known for yowling, chattering, chirping, "talking" (especially "talking back" to their owners), and making other loud vocalizations.
Why Me?
Maicoth and Kharmeen are similar in some ways, and vastly different in others. In truth, Maicoth liked Kharmeen's trust and confidence in himself, and even if Kharmeen is a little more selfless than Maicoth, they will both benefit from it in the end. Kharmeen's drive and desire to work for the greater good may convince Maicoth that maybe he could consider others in addition to himself, while at the same time. Kharmeen won't be forced into overly social situations where his comfort is strained.
