Aurora stopped short almost tripping on some invisible string. He looked to Aekepi a bewildered and surprised look to his face. "But.." he coughed out not sure what to say, the blush on his own face deepening in the shadows.
"But...I am not a girl..." he went on obviously confused, his naitivity not helping in this situation. He then became very aware that he was indeed holding Aekepi's hand. He wasn't sure if he should let go, a strong part of him telling him yes let go the otehr to frightened of the forest to even dare release the only comfort.

He looked down, and sighed, tail lashing in nervousness and anger at himself. But when he spoke, his voice was sad. So many emotions running around in that head of his...
"I... I know Aurora... I.... It's because you're NOT a girl that... "
He sounded like he was almost on the verge of tears. He swallowed back his emotion-choked voice, and started again.
"I... don't like girls in that way, 'Rora. Never have, and probably never will. I.. I know you most likely don't like me back. And I knew that before I said anything. It's just... I wanted you to know."
He lowered his head again, and squeezed tighter to Aurora's hand, glad that the other Fable couldn't see his face at this moment.
"Just... wanted to let you know. That's all. I know it's impossible that you feel the same, but I couldn't and can't lie to you. But yeah... we should find somewhere to sleep."
He looked around in the pitch black.
"I know I can't keep going for 20 miles in pitch darkness. The light on my tail isn't enough to cut through this. We'll have to wait here until morning."

Aurora felt like he had missed something very important. Some link that he couldn't figure out. Perhaps once he was older he would properly understand Aekepi's feelings. BUt for the moment he felt horrible for making Aekepi feel bad.
"I ...appreciate your honesty.." he started and his voice died as he felt Aekepi's hand tighten on his own. He wasn't sure what else to say. He liked Aekepi...but he liked Kinnara and Medeine as well.. When Aekepi changed the subject suddenly he blinked and sniffeled.
"I'm sorry..." he whispered hoarsly his normally calming voice sounding rather choked. "I really do want to be friends with you.." he continued andw inced feeling that his last comment would probably sting Aekepi. And though Aurora couldn't fathom the feelings Aekepi's held for him he still could reconize the sensitivity the situation held.

He just nodded, and swallowed back any words he would have spoken. It hurt too much to talk right now. He started tying togeether branches with grass, and the twine that he'd had in his pack. He was making shelter for the night, and he used that as an excuse not to talk. He was careful and methodical about making Aurora's - but his own, he rushed.
"You.... look sleepy."
He murmured, and staked Aurora's shelter down with twigs, spreading soft grasses inside the opening, and halfway to the back. It was a pretty large shelter, and looked comfortable.

Aurora watched in the dim lighting as Aekepi worked onteh shelters and felt himself pertty useless. He continued holding onto his basket awkwardly, when Aekepi was finished making his shelter he tried to find soemthing to say.
He was tired but he didn't want to leave the situation the way it was. "Come sit with me a while. YOu look hungry." he said trying to offer a half smile and offering the basket a bit. There were still plenty of berries in the basket they could perhaps enjoy a bit of a snack before bed.
He moved into his shelter and sat down, adjusting his tunic so it lay flat before putting the basket beside him. A song came to mind and he started to sing it slowly and quietly.
Somewhere, over the rainbow, way up high There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere, over the rainbow, skies are blue And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star And wake up where the clouds are far behind me Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly Birds fly over the rainbow Why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly Beyond the rainbow Why, oh why, can't I?

Aekepi's eyes started to close. He was tired. Too tired to stay awake much longer, and the song was the clincher. His eyes slipped shut, and he slumped over, leaning on Aurora's shoulder, fast asleep before the boy even got to the second verse. His breathing was smooth, even, and deep by the time 'Rora had finished the song. He was fast asleep.
