Tweet seemed to finally have his fill of attempting to preen V'demhe's hair and started to sing sweetly. The song was one that another of the families servants would often whistle to themselves as they cleaned. He didn't know what it was called, or even if it had a name, just that it didn't have words. He watched the kinfa bob in time to his song as he thought.

"I...don't know. I've never seen Mamae with a Radaku." Not a living one at any rate, but he didn't want to tell Dem that he ate Radaku fairly often. "I know she likes Kinfa." He turned to look at Maha, as if contemplating on his mother's reaction. "We should go anyway, she always tells me to try new things!"

As the bird on her shoulder stopped his preening and took up singing she turned her head to look at him. Dem was still smiling of course. When she heard the youngling speak up again she brought her eyes back to him. "A shame I don't have one." V'demhe thought about the kinfa. They were a very colorful breed. And they grew large enough to ride even. Still, she wasn't so sure she could handle one since her hands were full with Maha. Speaking of the radaku, he'd joined in on the singing. Not that he was on key or anything. Offering a cringe the tall prentice had to shake her head at her familiar. "Silly Maha. Maybe he can get your mother to laugh at his goofiness."

Laughing Virain attempted to join in, his voice just as off tune as Maha's. He tried pitching it high at first, then as deeply as he could make it, before settling back on his normal voice. "Maybe," Came the breathy reply after several moments of attempting to sing. "Mamae doesn't laugh often, it's sad. She's got a super pretty laugh. Maybe Maha can get her to laugh?" He asked, bouncing forwards a bit.

He could hear the sounds of the town filtering in from the forest, and what sounded like someone calling out. He couldn't quite hear what it was yet, just a voice that was familiar.

With the off key singing her ears gave a twitch but she showed no outward sign of being annoyed. Instead she seemed to be amused. Laughing even. Maha was spurred on by the added singing and he got louder. "Maha, quiet down you goof." Someone was likely to mistake him for a dying goat. As Virain said that his mother didn't laugh often she gave a bit of a frown. It wasn't good when a parent didn't smile or laugh much. With the boy bouncing around Dem watched, making sure he would stay safe and when she heard another sound it was her antennae that gave the twitch. "Hm?"

"Do you hear that too?" Virain asked, stopping to stand on his tip-toes, as if the extra height would help him hear better. "We're getting close to town, do you think it's someone looking for me?" He turned worried, yet curious eyes to the taller woman. He still held mixed feelings about going back home. On one hand he didn't want his parents to worry, on the other he wanted to spend more time with Dem.

As he struggled with his warring feelings the voice grew louder as the owner got closer. It was his Mamae! He lit up as the woman eventually made an appearance, stopping just within sight of the visible trio.

"I do." She stated. V'demhe heard something, though she wasn't sure what it was since she had been tortured for a moment by her radaku trying to out sing a kinfa and Virain. When he asked if she thought it might be someone looking for him she nodded her head. "It's possible. If I was your mother I would be out looking for you." Seeing that he was on his toes trying to hear better she laughed and reached down to scoop him up and lift him higher. "Better?" Her childish nature had finally kicked in. Since they were close to town she didn't have to worry about what might be lurking around the next tree to attack the youngling. She saw him light up and turned her head to look. Seeing a woman she'd smile and offer a small wave of her hand.

The added height was a bonus to him, because it allowed him see farther, but it hadn't prepared him for the look that crossed his mothers face. Relief, panic, fear. His face fell as he caught sight of the tears that started to prickle in her eyes. "Mamae?" He whispered, voice unsure.

Aemea hesitantly took a few steps forward, visibly pulling her courage together in the face of the strange Alkidike that was holding onto her son. The rumors about how nasty the warrior tribe was ran rampant throughout the markets. Their acts of violence blown out of proportion. The older matori was willing to brush such stories off as just that, stories, but seeing one here, with her guppy? She feared the worse.

"Please, please don't hurt him." She begged, hands clasped in front of her. Tweet peeped from where he sat on Dem's shoulder, and hopped off to flutter over to the distraught woman. He landed on her head and twittered, calming her down some. She knew the Kinfa wouldn't be as calm as he was if Virain truly was in danger.

But that didn't mean that the woman wouldn't still steal him away from her.

She saw the tears that were building in the woman's eyes as well and when Virain spoke she opened her mouth so say something but was cut short when she saw how the boys mother was reacting. So that meant the rumors about her race had traveled this far as well. "Go to your mother, Virain." V'demhe spoke gently to the youngling before she leaned down to set him back on the ground. Once her hands were free of him she stepped back. A hand brushing along Maha so that he'd know to step away as well. Dem didn't want to fight someone or even cause distress to the boy and his mother. So she opted for backing away and slowly disappearing into the forest shadows.

He was torn, wanting to go to him Mamae, but at the same time, wanting to properly introduce them. In the end the need to comfort his mother won out and he went to her, immediately getting scooped up into her arm. Carefully he pushed back so that he could twist around, looking for Dem. "Wait!" He called out, not seeing the Alkidike anywhere near. "Wait! V'demhe! Thank you!"

Turning back he gave his Mamae an unhappy look, "I wanted her to meet you." He said, "She was going to try to make you laugh."

Aemea winced, knowing that her child trusted too easily, but something in his words told her that he was being entirely serious. "Guppy, not everyone is as nice as they-"

"No! She really was nice! She found me and talked with me and was taking me back to town! She's not like those mean stories at all." He frowned at her, eyebrows drawing down, "You said that I had to give everyone a chance, that things were different now from how it was when you were little. Why aren't you giving her a chance?"

Aemea looked stunned, then ashamed. Her guppy was right, she was acting like an ignorant fool scared of her own shadow. But at the same time, she'd been so worried. Her guppy was her world, the reason why she was working as hard as she could so that he could live freely. "You're right Guppy. It was wrong of me to jump to conclusions like that. But you have to see it from my eyes too. A stranger holding onto my Guppy, who has been missing for several candlemarks, is also of the tribe that so many bad things are being spoken of. I was afraid that something bad had happened, was going to happen, to you." She said with a sigh, holding him close as she used one hand to smooth away the furrow between his brows. "If we see your friend again I'll apologize properly. A friend of yours is welcome in our home, no matter which tribe she comes from."

She heard Virain calling and paused. V'demhe hadn't left, as she wanted to be sure that he made it to his mother, so she heard him raising his voice to her. She shook her head in silence. That was no way for a youngling to act toward their parent. Then again she could understand his confusion. He had been frightened of her at first as well but she'd managed to ease his mind quickly. With his mother, she wouldn't have been able to do so without there being some insult thrown. Likely at her. Then again she had felt slightly insulted when she was asked not to hurt the child. Did everyone think that her race would do such a thing? From Aisha or not, all children were precious. With sad eyes she patted Maha on the shoulder lightly. "Come on boy.. we have other places to go."

As she turned to walk away the radaku stood still. He was watching Virain through the shadows of the forest and giving a sad whine. He wanted to play again. It wasn't until Dem gave the shrill whistle that he moved. The alkidike cast a glance over her shoulder, a last look at her little friend, an action Maha repeated before they both disappeared completely into the glowing dark of the forest.
