Saw this mentioned in Site Feedback when discussing refunds for powerups:

"Please also know, that these "items" are not completely useless.... Rings, etc etc might eventually get an upgrade in Alchemy, which will allow people to use zOMG items as material for something cool. Although this isn't confirmed yet, its a possibility"
