My friend Stephanie was going out with this guy named Benny for a little over a year, but he is one of the biggest jackasses I have ever met. He makes her cry all the time, he's possesive and doesn't want her to have any friends besides him, especially boys. He beats her and takes advantage of her, and she sticks up for him.
I understand that she really loves him, but she's one of those people that thinks they have to be going out with someone in order to feel wanted or whatever because her parents are crazy and think she'll never get married, and Benny doesn't love her.
Now Benny's dumped her for a lifeguard and she hasn't eaten in four days and can't stop crying.
WHY ARE PEOPLE SO STUPID.

Love is blinding because other wise we wouldn't do the load of crazy stuff we do for our lovers other wise. Including stuff that's needed to propagate the species and keep the little watery moles of our loins alive long enough to reproduce and raise THEIR children. When there is a confusing sexual behavior, ask: "What keeps the most people the most reproductively successfull?" The answer will normally point in the right direction.
Staying with a man who is abusive isn't a very smart reproductive strategy in the era of one-a-day-keeps-the-baby-away pills and iPods. While staying with an abusive partner might have been a better choice then going out and fending against the sabre tooth tigers back when we were painting in caves, it's no longer a good idea. Our brains and genetics haven't quite caught up with our technology and society though.
