  Gale & PercyHe expected very little from his new partner, had not bothered to get his hopes up over idealistic dreams of who and what it might be.
He had been very smart in that regard, considering what stood before him.
Gale's expression was one of calm indifference as he examined the bundle of spiky yellow hair and narrowed green eyes. The Joltik was a puny specimen but it held itself with such pride that its very aura demanded respect.
The Pikachu might have been inclined to give it had the bug not opened its mouth and begun to spout every horrid obscenity under the sun, all directed to its disappointment at having been assigned to Gale.
"-you'd think they'd put me with someone more my skill level and not some wet behind the ears rat! You've got a stupid look to you-"
He went on and on, hardly hurting the taller electric type's feelings at all. Gale, when he had been in his rebellious Pichu years, had heard it all before.
He was reminded of his mother suddenly and how she use to go off on tirades at the slightest provocation until his father interjected in his...own manner.
Now, staring at the uppity little Joltik, Gale found his expression soften and go thoughtful.
Why, compared to him the Joltik was hardly going to be an issue when it came to size. He was a big Pikachu and well...he figured it would be better than simply standing idle as the bug wore itself out in a tantrum.
Opting to take a page from his father's book the Pikachu reached out suddenly and grasped the Joltik around the middle with both paws, eliciting a squeak of alarm.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING, PUT ME D-"
Into Gale's mouth it went.
Now, he wasn't going to eat the horrid little furball, but he held it gently within his jaws; teeth closed to keep it from worming its way out.
It was an uncomfortable feeling, this fuzzy thing wriggling in a panic on top of his tongue, but he held firm and soon the furious screeching that had sounded moments after he had done the act...faded.
The bug had certainly fought back initially, shocking the inside of his mouth and nipping with tiny pincers, but Gale was an electric type himself and he was far too sturdy for simple bites or zaps to sway him.
When the struggling ended he unceremoniously opened his mouth and spat the fiery little insect on the ground where it floundered about, a sodden and unhappy mess.
"WHY DID-"
"I am not stupid." The Pikachu cut the oncoming storm off with a calm, slow punctuation of words as he frowned at the other.
"My name is Gale. Not stupid, not rat. It's just Gale. Please call me that alone or I won't be happy."
His tongue still tingled but he was prepared for round two if need be, fortunately the Joltik's anger had fizzled out and he nodded albeit grumpily.
"Fine then. I'm Percival. Don't do that mouth thing again, GALE, or we'll have a problem."
The Pikachu smiled at the attempts to remain bold and unbothered, but he gave a curt nod.
"So long as you do not provoke me."
The two exchanged glances, Gale's a calm and partial smile and Percival's one of confusion and disdain. Slowly, both lifted an appendage out for a brief 'hand'shake.

The moment Serrin left Gale would turn to the Eevee and his request. The mission hadn't been too awful and he'd walked out of it with only a minor headache, an ice pack sitting lopsided between his ears, so the apology and such weren't really a big deal to him like they were to the Rescue Head.
The Pikachu was the forgiving type anyways.
Inside the room he could hear Percy swearing up a storm about how they couldn't afford to have dead weight and the 'kid was nothing but trouble', but Gale tuned him out and with a partial smile placed a paw atop Alto's head as he had done in the Glitter Cave.
"Welcome aboard. I'm assuming someone is going to come pick up the two items I don't pick later?" A nod and a happy smile confirmed this as the Eevee danced in place, "Then here. Take the Headbutt TM for yourself. We'll make you a proper fighter yet."
With a gesture of his paw he invited the Normal type in and Alto happily bounded into the room much to the chargin of Percival who began to swear louder until Gale leered him into silence.

Alto's Parents

It would be the next day, early in the morning that Gale would have to face his toughest challenge yet. The sun hadn't yet risen fully, having only just barely slipped past the horizon, and the early morning hours were still. Few were awake and even fewer willingly. The only one awake, active and aware in the guild was scratching at team Amethyst's door in order to awaken them. Another one who was slightly less awake, active and aware was doing the same.
Gale would now have to face his in-laws. Sort of.

 Gale & Serenade [Alto's mother]They hadn't had time to get Alto his own little bed and somehow or another he had sidled himself into Gale's nest next to him. The Pikachu hadn't minded really, he was use to sleeping in a cluster next to his sisters back home so the presence of another small, furred body made no difference to him.
If anything it was almost comforting and the soft thumping of heart beating just under his head where he rested it on Alto's back, was soothing enough to lull him into sleep immediately.
What dragged him from the depths of sleep was the soft scratching at the door that was just loud enough to hear but not deafening.
Gale lifted his head, carefully stepping around the sleeping Eevee and heading to the door where he opened it slowly to avoid having it disturb his team mates.
He wasn't expecting a Persian of all Pokemon, but the Umbreon drowsily smiling behind the feline was familiar.
It was quickly clear who they were. "Alto's parents...? Can I...help you?"

Cedric would have whistled had he been capable. Gale was a big one. Cedric was a fair bit taller and larger but Gale's size was absurd compared to the norm. It made you wonder what he ate to get like that though it was clear enough that Gale's size had more to do with some kind of heritage rather than anything else he had actually done. You had to have some major blood in you to end up like that. "We're just saying hi."
With that brief and very poor introduction, Cedric simply slipped past Gale, into the team room and straight towards Alto. When he got there, with as much fatherly love and affection as was possible, he gently bopped Alto on the head a few times to wake him up. "Wakey wakey son."

Gale shuffled awkwardly to the side as the Persian stepped past him toward the nest in the corner. After some light prodding the Eevee sleeping there lifted his head drowsily and glanced around before settling his mismatched eyes on his father.
His slender tail flicked side to side and he smiled as he yawned and rose to his paws.
"Heyyyyy, I thought you guys had left already."
"We wouldn't leave without saying goodbye first." The Umbreon slipped into the room behind Cedric, leaning down to nuzzle the Eevee on the side of the face gently.
Gale watched the little family gathering in silence, feeling a rare pang of homesickness strike him at the scene. He wondered what his parents were doing now...

"Not yet. We wanted to stop in and meet your team to make sure you'd be alright." Cedric glanced back at Gale. He didn't really need to ask to see the rest of the team after seeing Gale as it was obvious enough that at the very least the Pikachu could fend for himself. Whether or not he was strong enough to protect Alto was another question but apparently he had performed admirably on the mission and it was ultimately Alto's choice to put himself in harm's way. All that really mattered was that Alto was prepared for it all.
In the end, it seemed like the whole visit was for naught. There wasn't anything here that Cedric was concerned about. He didn't quite know where the co-captain (was that still what they were called?) was but whatever the case he was pretty sure it was fine. "You remember all the lessons?"
If it's bigger than you, run. If you can't see the top of a cliff, don't climb it. If you can't see the bottom of a lake, don't swim in it. If you find something that looks nice, it probably is. Forests and buildings are good, it's plains and caves you need to worry about. If you can run, you can fight later.
They were all lessons that Cedric and Serenade put into practice on a regular basis and it was the reason why they were such an excellent exploration team. Twenty-five years had barely seen the pair age simply because they had accumulated little in the way of the scars and wounds that normally plagued the elderly folk.

"Yeah! I remember them!" Alto was on his paws, teetering between both parents and casting side glances toward Gale who was still silently standing at the door.
The Pikachu smiled pleasantly in return to his looks and so the Eevee redirected his attention back to his parents entirely.
"I won't take any risks."
"I'm not really in the risk business myself..." Gale said quietly, adding onto the conversation.
"Well, that's good to know." Serenade commented with a soft laugh, glancing around the room. It was small and homely, like the old team rooms use to be. A wave of nostalgia struck and she sighed wistfully.
"You guys will drop in to visit when you get back to the city, yeah?" Gale noted, with some amusement, that the Eevee's stutter and fearful nature had all but disappeared in the presence of his parents. He wondered if he was only timid when they weren't around...

"Good." It was a confirmation to both Alto and Gale. Knowing that Gale wasn't the type to take risks and knowing that Alto would keep what he had been taught in mind was, to Cedric, good enough. Risk was a part of being alive and it was especially a part of growing up. You couldn't avoid it. His son would have to have a brush with death sooner or later if he was going to grow up and there was nothing that Cedric or Alto could do about it. He just had to leave Alto with enough of his lessons that the much tinier, much less experienced creature would experience only a brush with death and nothing greater.
"Yep." Of course he would stop in to visit. Letting Alto have his independence was one thing, leaving him alone completely was another. Alto wouldn't be ready to greet the world truly on his own for years and it was Cedric's duty to stick his head in now and then and see how things were. "We'll stop by every month or two or so to see how things are."
Really, it depended where things took them. It was just now spring meaning it was the perfect time for long, aimless paths. They didn't have to worry about the weather scorching them and they didn't have to worry about freezing... they could be as relaxed as they desired.
But there wasn't anything else to say, so Cedric leaned over to nuzzle Alto lightly. "We'll make sure to stop by. Just take it easy, there's always a chance you'll trip if you run too fast." It was perhaps the most important advice that Cedric would give him and it was the last thing he would say before turning around and heading back towards the door. The only pause was when he got near Gale, to who he said, "Take care of him."
It was time to leave. Wanderers didn't stop wandering.

Gale & Alto & Serenade [Alto's mother]
Serenade scratched at her ear with a back leg, listening but not really hovering too much. Alto needed space and having both parents hovering over him would be counter productive to what they were trying to do, that being leave him to his independence.
Cedric was saying what she would have anyways and so she remained silent up until he gave his closing remarks.
Rising to her paws she slipped forward to give the Eevee a gentle nudge as well and Alto happily returned the gesture to both parents.
"See you soon!" He pipped up and Gale only nodded and lifted a paw in a wave of his own.

Cedric gave a sort of half-wave, it was the best he could do without stopping and turning around, and continued on his way with Serenade in tow. "We'll be back."
The pair slipped outside the door and Cedric closed the door behind them with a deliberately gentle motion, so as to not disturb anyone else.
If it wasn't so terribly suiting of them, you might have thought that it was all some sort of strange dream. There wasn't any evidence at all that they had been there, aside from two sets of slightly drowsy eyes.
