Hey all!! this is my quest thread, I'm still a newbie to this B/C but it looks fascinating. All if not some will be Artist's choice since I love seeing what the Artists come up with. ~ An Essence is anything that you can see or touch. It is a physical representation of what makes up the Aeterna it belongs to, and is responsible for most of its physical features. In the hourglass, the Essence is a thick, mercurial substance that the Ether pours into. Essences cannot be human or anything that does not exist: this includes extinct creatures as well as fantasy or the supernatural. The exception to the latter two is during breedings, though this has yet to be proven.
While an Essence is usually of natural properties, with the recent awakening of the Aeternus, it can also be man made. They are not overly common as of yet, but still function as the natural Essence would, determining physical properties of the Aeterna.
~An Ether is anything that you can smell or taste, even if it's not a good smell or taste. Aeternus are made out of that which appeals to human sensibilities, and as such, should typically be appealing. It is the liquid in the top part of the hourglass that pours into the Essence. It is responsible for coloration, markings and in some cases, additions to the Aeterna it belongs to. It does not usually manifest physically, but there are some exceptions.
While an Ether is typically natural in creation, man made scents and tastes can also qualify, such as oil or hot chocolate. On rare occasions, an Ether can be purely man made in the sense of pleasing humans, such as scents that have more than one distinct odor (candles, oils) or tastes that are similarly mixed (apple cinnamon, banana cream, flavored candies, etc). The rarest of Ethers are those that are concepts or ideas, such as Liquid Luck or Love Potions.
