I always keep hearing that the second ammendment was meant only to arm the military

they are trying to tell us that a bunch of revolutionarys were saying only arm the military that counteracts history

Tell me, what is everyone's preferred self/home defense load?

Mine is a special recipe I've been whipping up on the reloading bench. I shoot a Taurus large-frame .357 Magnum with the 6 1/2" ported/vented barrel, 8 round capacity, and the 1/2 MOA adjustable rear sight ramp. The barrel lengths between 4" and 8 3/8" maximize the exterior ballistic performance of the .38 Special/.357 Magnum/.357 Remington Maximum (yes, this round DID exist back in the late 70's), while the barrel porting helps limit recoil.

My load consists of Hornady #35710 125 grain .3565 caliber jacketted hollow points, with a ballistic coefficient of 0.151. I use 16.8 grains of Alliant 2400™ powder, CCI 550 small magnum pistol primers, and Federal casings (and sometimes Winchester casings), with an overall length of 1.575".

I've blasted Ritz crackers out of trees at 30 feet with this load. It's not as fast (meaning it doesn't deliver as much stopping power or accuracy) as the Federal C357B "FBI load" (a muzzle velocity of 1,540 feet/second), but it gets close, and it's easier than trying to find a place up here that sells .357 Mag ammo. Everyone up here in Oregon is either into concealed carry pistols or the giant big game hunting handguns, and there's no compromise for one of the best self defense loads ever (according to Marshall and Sanow).

Guns rule biggrin . Great site for information www.gunfacts.info. I plan on joining the Army after college and I would love to shoot the M107 LRSR (drools).

Oh, it's just the old Barrett M82 in it's latest version. I suppose those are fun, but the Armalite AR-50 is cheaper, and far more durable. I've heard bad things about the Barretts, and who really needs a selective fire weapon when you're firing anti-material rounds?

But if you want a real anti-material rifle, you can go bigger and badder with the Denel NTW-20 rifle from South Africa. It comes in either 20mm or 14.5x114mm Russian (the 14.5x114 travels farther, and delivers far more penetration), and you can convert from one to the other with a simple barrel swap.

Also, consider the Armalite AR-30 in .338 Lapua. That cartridge was meant to fill the gap between the .300 WSM and .50 BMG as a medium anti-material rifle for lighter targets.

Thanks. That's part of my collection, though I've expended on it a bit lately. Now only if I had some money to burn, the gun show is this weekend.

In all honesty, I'm looking in to the legality of a sawn-off shotgun loaded with 12 gauge buckshot. :3 Two barrels of ******** PAIN.
