Sometimes it was easy to take certain moves for granted. Alejandro had kind of forgotten Bite could make Pokemon flinch, and he was lucky it took effect on the Oddish. Camila won that battle without so much as a scratch. After giving the Persian a congratulatory pat on her big head, earning a hiss of feigned annoyance in return, Alejandro made a quick change to the layout of his team. He might as well let a couple others benefit from being on the active party; Mufasa especially, considering the future Solgaleo had an XP ball that boosted the benefits.

Once he used a potion on Camila, he returned her to her ball so she could take a nap or whatever Pokemon did inside the capsules. He made it a point to ask about that sometime. They could be having parties with Pokemon from the PC system for all he knew. That'd be interesting. With the Persian tucked away, Alejandro decided to get some time in with Diego. How far away was he from evolving? He didn't know, but he hoped he was close. Guy needed a new move. And, as luck would have it, a Meowth appeared from wherever all the Pokemon were coming from. Perfect. Hopefully Diego could handle it.

That...was not ideal, and Alejandro didn't think it could've gone any worse save for actually having Diego knocked out. At least the Abra had been able to finish the battle without being switched for someone else, but holy damn. It definitely could've gone better.

Cerulean City, last time Gio was here he beat Misty and received a Piplup from and Old Man. Now he had returned and that Old Man wanted to speak with him again about something.
Giovanni and Lucario walked towards the Old Man's house. It was easy to remember as it was nearly in front of the path leading to Mt. Moon. He knocked on the door "Come in or dont, I cant stop you." Gio looked over at Lucario, the old guy hadn't changed much apparently. His hand reached for the door and Gio walked in. "Hey Old Man heard you wanted to speak with me."
The gentleman set out some tea "Hahaha please sit down I have a proposition for you."
Gio did as asked "I dont know, Im really trying to finish collecting all the badges in Johto so I can challenge the League."
"I understand, but you need to learn patience," he started pouring the tea "Not every battle is won with brute strength."
"I don't kn-"
"Shhhh like I said patience," he handed a cup of tea to Gio "Some Pokemon are good for that and others not so much. For instance you used a Rock Type in your battle with Jasmine which was a disadvantage. Instead of using that Pokemon to set up the field you kept attacking. Notice how Jasmine dropped Spikes on you when she couldn't deal proper damage."
Gio gulped down the tea before speaking, "So you said you had a proposition?" He glanced over the the prior statement.
"Ah yes, I suppose it is a learned behavior and not on that can be found on a dime." the Old Man stood up and disappeared for a moment. Gio looked around the room and saw the wall was littered with old photos of a Trainer with various Pokemon. He noticed there was some badges framed on the wall. "Trinkets from a bygone era." Gio jumped a little.
"Sorry, I didn't know you were an actual Trainer once."
"Well you never asked, but thats exactly what I wanted to talk with you about. You remind me a lot of myself when I was younger. I never did learn the value of patience in a battle. Not till well after I had given up." he handed a few pictures with a map over to Gio. "My old Piplup has evolved into a wonderful addition to your team,but here in Cerulean Cave there are Pokemon you cant just beat in one hit and some that will hit you even harder. I wamt you to travel in and find two things for me. One is a TM called Stealth Rocks, the other is a Pokemon that despite its size will hit like a MooMoo Milk truck. Now I understand if you dont want to but you are a Steel Type Trainer and Ive seen you use some Pokemon that aren't Steel Type at all. So go find these two things and come back. Then I will ask you the real proposition. What do you say?"
Gio thought for a moment. No one had ever told him that they reminded him of themselves before. If this guy really was a Trainer an never became a Champion what hope did he have? Maybe he was right maybe he should go to the cave and find these things. "Fine, but you better teach me this patience in battle thing."

Gio walked out front of the house and started making his way down Nugget Bridge. "I cant believe he didn't tell me we had to fish to find that Pokemon. What kind of Pokemon could crush us that you can only find fishing?" It made no sense but either way he still agreed to it. The only part that confused him was that he didn't understand why the Old Man couldn't tell him why he wanted Gio to do this. He got the whole 'patience' thing but even that seemed like a stretch. The best way to win a battle was Sheer Force and raw power. Everything else came secondary but this guy really seemed determined to prove that was not the case. Was having a Pokemon that could set up really that important?
Lucario shook his head, he knew exactly what the Old Man was talking about. Gio wanted the most powerful strike followed up with the most destructive force. His Trainer didn't even realize that most of the time he was waiting for the optimal moment to strike. Battling could be far easier if he used the battlefield to his advantage instead of just trying to wreck shop.

Over Nugget Bridge was a river of sorts, Gio had to let Empoleon out so they could cross to the cave entrance. Warning signs littered the rocks and the land leading up to it. One of them said 'Enter at your own risk! No rescue past this point!' Giovanni pointed at it and looked at Lucario. "Get a load of this buddy they really wont help anyone past this point?" Lucario had no idea what Gio was talking about since he couldn't even see what it was he was talking about. What he could see was some very powerful Aura's ahead of them. There was even one very deep below the ground here that scared him beyond belief. If people refused to help past where they were then that Aura must be far scarier than he could imagine.

They left the cave and took the same route back, Empoleon came out to help them cross the river leading back to Nugget Bridge. When they were back in Cerulean Gio went to the Pokemon Center to have his Pokemon checked. More than anything Gio just wanted to make sure Lucario was ok. He was worried since he had never seen Lucario run from anything or even look that sick.
After they left the Pokemon Center Gio went back to the Old Man's house. He debated just walking in but decided instead to knock and wait.

The Old Man slowly came to the door before opening up. "Ahhh welcome back, I hope everything went well with no trouble?" Gio looked away before responding. "We caught the Pokemon but something spooked Lucario here so I wasn't able to find the item." The Old Man threw his hands up before disappearing into a back room again. When he emerged he had the tea set again with some kind of sealed box on it. The Old Man poured two cups as he normally did and handed one to Gio. "Nor did I expect you to, did anyone ever tell you the Legend of that cave?" Gio shook his head. "You see many years ago Team Rocket created a Pokemon so powerful it could never. Ever. Lose in battle. That Pokemon was so powerful in fact, they couldn't control it. That Pokemon made home in Cerulean Cave. Many years ago the Pokemon attempted to seal itself away, but human intervention as a way of messing things up." The Old Man told the story as he sipped his tea, "When they had finally cleared the rubble no sign of the Pokemon could be found. I believe that Pokemon had retreated to the deepest depths hoping to never see another human in its life." he paused to sip his tea again.

"Please humor me a little longer. Most people dont realize some of the scientific minds that worked for Team Rocket at the time are now major figures in Kanto. Ome of them is even a Gym Leader and I would love nothing more than to see you beat that man for me."
"You knew us going into that cave could have been a death sentence and you still asked me to go?" Gio asked a little more than angered at the revelation.
"No I sent you there in hopes that you could confirm that Pokemon was still alive. If your Lucario was spooked the way he was then that tells me more than enough. The simple fact you have a Lucario means you never would have been surprised by that Pokemon. The level of pressure the Pokemon Team Rocket made is more than most Pokemon can handle. Lucario being a Pokemon that can sense Aura means he would have always known the level of danger. Him getting spooked was probably just that, no?" the Old Man looked at Lucario when he finished speaking. Lucario dropped his head and folded his arms. The Steel Type didn't want to think about whatever was making that Aura again. "So you're telling me that you knew I wouldn't be able to find what you wanted me to? Well I did find the Pokemon just not the item. Who's the Gym Leader and why doesn't the League step in and stop them?"
"I knew that would catch your attention, I have this for you. Would you please let me see my old Pokemon please?" The Old Man picked up the box and placed it on the coffee table.
Gio did what he was asked and let Empoleon out of his ball. The Old Man opened the box and handed the contents to Gio. It was a TR. "This is a TR called Stealth Rocks. I told you about patience before and no move will help you exemplify that more than this. It doesnt do any damage until a new Pokemon comes onto the field but if used right it can swing a fight before it even begins. I couldn't think of a better Pokemon to learn this other than Empoleon here. What do you say? Teach Empoleon the move and do one last Gym here in Kanto for me. After that you can go back to Johto and finish your League challenge."
"Hmmm you didn't even tell me the name of that scientist thats a Gym Leader yet. So you're gonna have to be a little more honest with me if thats what you want."
"Hmmm well it's a gentleman on Cinnabar Island named Blaine." Gio who had finally sipped his tea spit it out. "Who? Did you say Blaine? Im a Steel Type Trainer why do you think I would stand a chance?"
"Like I said patience. Do you not trust in your Pokemon? Empoleon here could probably do the job all by themselves if you would let him." the Old Man stood up and offered his hand. "You did promise to come visit but you never did let this be the last thing I ever ask you do if you would choose."
Gio stood up out of guilt "Fine, but you have to pay for my Air Taxi to Cinnabar and back to Johto, say Mahogany." he offered his hand as well.
