General Breeding Info:
Different Species: Monsters of different species may breed freely with one another - no restrictions.

Offspring: The species of offspring may not exactly resemble the parent or ancestor's pose.

Hatching: Monster eggs typically hatch within 1 to 2 weeks time.

Stats: This is a bit more technical so please see the relevant post in the FAQs.

Breeding Restrictions:
Consent: Both owners must post the consent form in the colorists thread after obtaining a slot to confirm consent.

Genders: Monsters are genderless - therefore it's all fair game ;p

Pre-Requisites: Monsters may only breed if: they are certed, are adults, do not currently have growing/uncerted offspring.

Maximum: Nests may have a MAX of 5 eggs. Inbreedings may have a MAX of 3.

Claiming: Owners may keep 1 egg and can give the rest away via contest/game or give them to the shop to re-home.

Certing: All eggs must be certed together in the same post using the breeding form in the certing thread.

Edits: Please don't ask the colorist to tell you which eggs are edited.

Inbreeding:
Inbreeding is considered a pairing of close relatives (i.e grandparents/parents, children/grandchildren, aunts/uncles)

Edited: Offspring may be "deformed" if the slot is edited. Type of edit is entirely CC.

Unedited and Edited: Both types may result in offspring with odd colors or markings (might be a plus, ymmv).

Hybrids:
If two different species of monsters breed there is a chance it will result in a hybrid (a genetic cross of both parents).
If two hybrids breed they have a higher chance of creating hybrids of the same species as well as unique hybrids

Breeds that are not hybrids are known as "base" species.

Click the spoiler for a more in-depth breakdown.

The following scenarios should cover all breeding scenarios. Please let us know if something doesn't make sense!

BOTH PARENTS ARE GEN 1
In this both parents are a base species, and neither is a hybrid. This means that, assuming both parents are of the same rarity, there is a 50/50 chance for the offspring to take on either of the parents species. Each offspring also has a 5% chance of being a hybrid.

When parents are of different rarity tiers, the chances are somewhat different. See below for a breakdown:
- Same Rarity = 50/50

- Common / Uncommon = 60/40
- Common / Rare = 70/30
- Common / Legendary = 99/1

- Uncommon / Rare = 80/20
- Uncommon / Legendary = 95/5

- Rare / Legendary = 90/10

Note that Unique/Custom lineart is considered "Legendary" for this purpose.

BOTH PARENTS ARE NON-HYBRIDS & At Least one is Gen 2+
Works the same as the above, except that:

- If either parent has a hybrid in it's direct lineage (parents/grandparents) the chance of being a hybrid increases by 1% for each hybrid in that lineage (that's potentially +12% if all ancestors happen to be hybrids - unlikely, but possible).

ONE PARENT IS A HYBRID
Now things start to get a little more complicated!

- 50% chance that the offspring will take after the base species parent.
- 30% chance that the offspring will take after the base species in the hybrid parent's lineage.
- 20% chance that the offspring will take after the hybrid parent's species.

If any ancestors up to 2 generations back are hybrids as well, the same rule applies (increase of 1% chance of offspring being a hybrid - in this case, the hybrid parent's species).

- 5% chance, that IF the offspring is a hybrid, it can take after a different hybrid species in the direct lineage but ONLY IF it is included as a throwback (and only if there are different hybrid species to include).

BOTH PARENTS ARE HYBRIDS
Great! That means that they're both at least Gen 2 so no matter what generation they are the following works the same.

- 70% chance of their offspring being a base species from either parents direct lineage.
- 30% chance of the offspring being the same hybrid species as either parent.
- 10% chance, that IF the offspring is a hybrid, it can take after a different hybrid species in the direct lineage but ONLY IF it is included as a throwback.
- 2% chance that any hybrid offspring may result in a unique hybrid species.

There can only be a max of 1 unique hybrid per breeding.

I'M CONFUSED D:
Yup, hybrid breeding can be confusing! But don't worry, we've got this~

Throwbacks:
You may opt to include direct-lineage ancestors (parents / grandparents / great-grandparents, etc) in breedings for colorists to draw additional inspiration from, in the form of colors, markings, and edits.
Throwbacks may also be included when attempting to influence the species of offspring a breeding may result in (such as with hybrid breedings).
You may include a max of 4 ancestors as throwbacks.

Nest Size
The base size of a nest will vary depending on the type and is determined via RNG.
Below are the chances each type of breeding has for the base nest size.
    Regular
    2 eggs : 30%
    3 eggs : 70%

    Inbreeding
    2 eggs : 100%

    Same Owner
    1 egg: 70%
    2 eggs: 30%

    Same Owner & Inbreeding
    1 egg : 100%

    Extra Eggs:
Additional eggs may be added to the base nest size by the following methods:

1 Newbie Egg (someone with 3 or less monsters)
1 Fertility Token (one per breeding)
1 Random chance for +1 egg (30% chance)

Breeding Slots:
Regular slots cost 5k plat:
Breedings will result in offspring that are unedited by default. While hybrids may result from regular breedings there will be no unique-lined hybrids through these slots. Edited monsters may still apply for regular slots, their offspring will simply be interpreted in different ways.

Hybrid slots cost +2k plat per hybrid:
Due to the unstable nature of hybrids breeding, the results are often unpredictable, hence why these slots are a little more pricey - and harder to come by.

Edited slots cost +3k plat:
Only edited breeding slots will result in a chance for edited babies, and unique hybrid lines, however this doesn't guarantee that all offspring will have edits. Also, keep in mind that edits may change from generation to generation or may be interpreted in new ways entirely.

Consent Form:
Both owners must post in the Agreement Thread before a breeding may be entered in any colorist's slots.
