Elin DeraWhat am I missing?
"What expression?" Her eyes narrowed slightly, looking sour. "Maybe I have yet to earn your respect, but I will. Talking big isn't worth much if you can't follow through, after all. So I shall. Someone will have to evaluate me, that much is certain. Maybe you should watch some of it." Elin knew that would have to happen. As much as spirit was good, going outside the walls would require a reputation that might not be passed on. Sometimes just being the top trainee of your unit wasn't enough.

[Wren Harbinger] Wren shrugged, "I meant no disrespect, you know. I'm just the protective type, I guess. Don't listen to me," she chuckled, dragging from her cigarette. They had passed through most of the town by now, and were about half way, if she were to guess. It seemed like the driver had unknowingly taken the long route, however. She knew the roads particularly well, having walked around so much over the course of her lifetime.
"Ah, yeah. We do annual physicals, and they're coming up soon anyhow, I believe. I was injured and unable to preform very well last year, so I've got a comeback to make." She laughed. "I'm sure you'll show me up, though." She was only joking a little, really. She expected that Elin had gained her title through skill, and as she had noted before, she certainly didn't seem weak.

"We'll see what happens. The two branches work very...differently. It's connections over talent, often. Which is why people will need to learn that I'm not rotten. It'll be fun." Whenever she spoke of things that could tip the men off, she kept her voice lower. "I'll miss the massive pool most, I think."

[Wren Harbinger] Wren ashed her cigarette over the edge of the cart and turned to face Elin. "Well, there's the river that runs behind base. It's really clean, and no one's ever out there besides a few fishermen. I've swam there before," She tucked her hair behind her ear so the oncoming wind wouldn't blow it in her face. The sun was starting to set now, clouds turning orange and yellow with the saturated light. "If you're not too worn out after unpacking, I could show you." She smiled. "That is, if you're up to it."

Elin DeraWhat am I missing?
"I'd be up to it if you are. Just would hope no rusty hooks would end up lodged in my foot or something. We're close, right? We can set up then go from there." Going for a swim would be nice, and the dip would probably help her take her mind off things. Water was...safe. They would have time, as it were, before she'd have to talk with someone higher up on the chain of command and wear the wings of freedom. That was something Elin never really thought she'd do.
