Kali:
The air was chilly today, which was enough to make the blackened siamese cat not really want to take the chance outside. But the human male had put her outside for the evening. She wasn't sure why he thought that was acceptable.. She belonged inside, though it seemed more and more that she was being sent outside.. She was not liking it much..
She stretched out on the backyard, miserable at the idea of once again, finding dinner on her own. She was okay with the bits and pieces she got from her real human's dinner. But since the woman had gotten married, that had all but stopped. Now she was left to hunt for herself, because even kibble wasn't offered anymore.
"Nasty, dirty human." She spat, staring daggers at the door, before deciding she would explore. No way she'd be out here for him to kick whenever she tried to get back inside.
Gabriel / Loki:
"They typically are," a male's voice purred from the top of a nearby fence. Gabriel had been walking along it, exploring as he was wont to do. Usually he wouldn't have been in the middle of a neighborhood like this, but how fortunate for him! Because what a lovely queen he'd found. When she'd come outside, he'd settled down in his steps, lounging on the uncomfortable wood.
Kali:
The voice made her ears instantly perk, and she was staring at him with cold yellow gold eyes. Her tail swished behind her, showing she was already irritated, and perhaps it wasn't the best moment to try for her company. She was too busy thinking of ways to claw out the man's eyes while he slept.
"No. Take that back." She said, orbs narrowing. "It's the male of her species that is dirty." She stuck out her tongue as if in disgust, and shook her head.
"But then again, it could hold true for any species, yes?" A wry grin was on her features, and she was still staring. Obviously thinking that it wouldn't take long for him to get irritated at her remarks, and leave her be.
Gabriel / Loki:
One eyebrow raised at her acidic reply. He would definitely need to lather on the charm with this one, if he was interested of course. And at least for the moment, he was interested.
"Ouch, that hurts. I wouldn't judge all males on a single species. I'm only dirty when I want to be," Gabe purred back, resting his head on folded hands as his tail swished back and forth. He stayed like that for a moment before sitting up, balancing better on the wood. His shoulders hunched a bit as he stared down at her, his hair flopping down onto his forehead.
"Why's a beautiful lady like you in such a huff? And outside?"
Kali:
Normally, she was incredibly flirty herself. But that man had just put her in a terrible mood. So the male's words made her frown. She was a top champion show cat.. Or she had been.. Kali's life changed drastically when her human had broken her legs in an accident. That had been the worst time of Kali's life.. It was hard to stay out of the way of a wheelchair, and her tail had come in contact with it one too many times.
Though when he began complimenting her, she felt her anger drain into pity. Not that she would allow him to pity her. But she was all about attention.
"That stupid man!" She cried out, kicking at the door with an angry claw, before turning back and leaping off the back porch.
"That vile man comes into my home and puts me out. The nerve." She growled low in her throat.
Gabriel / Loki:
Gabriel's tail flicked back and forth, back and forth. He really did have trouble sitting still sometimes.
"That sucks. But on the plus side you don't have to be under a human's thumb anymore. Why not take off that collar and just leave?" He didn't get it. Pets. Humans didn't care about you, they just cared about what you did for them. Hunting mice, making money in shows, being at their beck and call when they wanted affection. And when they didn't need you, they just dumped you. He hated it.
The tip of his tail curled in agitation. A fluffy tail, like his thick fur that was great for weather like this. But it had been that that made them abandon him, take him away from his mother and-
He shook the thoughts away. He didn't need them distracting him from the pretty female.
"And your human didn't fight to keep you around?"
Kali:
She wanted to tell him off for suggesting she leave home. She loved her female human, even if the male was positively deplorable.. Or at least.. SHe loved her as much as she could love anything. Kali was incredibly selfish, more often than not. Love wasn't something that defined her. That sleek coat and crystal clear eyes did that for her.
But she had wondered many times what she should do.. Leaving had come on the table many times. Especially as it got colder. But as it got colder, so did the reprecussions of what her choices could bring.
"She never does." She said, not wanting to admit it. But it was true. It wasn't like she would be seeing him again anyway right?
"What are you doing here anyway?" She asked the fluffy cat. Her human had always told her to stay away from strays. They were dirty, she said, carried fleas and other parasites.. But right now, Kali couldn't be assed to listen when she was as mad as she was.
Gabriel / Loki:
Gabe shook his head. Of course she didn't fight for her pet. This female didn't get it. Her human didn't care about her. No human did. The scar around his neck itched and he scratched idly at it as he considered her question. And how to respond to her statement, or if he should at all.
He shrugged.
"Just looking to see what this area's like." Mostly food options. Good trash. Some of the neighbors seemed to have little care for starving people out there with everything they threw away. All the better for him and those like him. "And glad I did," he added, giving her a slow smile and a equally languid perusal.
Kali:
She watched him shake his head. Incredibly observant, it took a lot to get anything past her. As of yet, it hadn't happened before. She didn't even know his name and here she was shooting the breeze. She had heard that expression before, was that what she was doing?
"It's a good area." She said, licking at her paw to straighten the fur. The collar at her neck stifling her as she moved. It was getting too tight lately, and there really wasn't much to be done about it.
"Or usually.. " But then he continued talking and she rolled her eyes.
"I don't even know your name and you are making comments such as those? Brave, aren't you?"
Gabriel / Loki:
"Sorry, I was too distracted to remember," Gabe replied with a charming half-smile. Yes, forgot. Really, he just didn't like sharing his name. He wasn't social, there were reasons he was a rogue and didn't live in a territory with others. It was always better to be able to disappear and not give others a way to find you.
But for some odd reason, he had half a mind to share his true name with this one, this pet he'd just met. He'd lost his mind.
"Loki." It was a good fallback. He had a couple of others.
Kali:
"Loki.." She said, the name rolling over her tongue. It was nice, had a ring to it. But it sounded almost feminine. The thought made her grin, and hide a smile that was growing too large on her face.
"Kali." She said. She knew he hadn't asked her own name, but she knew manners.. At least when she wanted to.
"You should be careful not to get so easily distracted. The human man might see you, and then it's all downhill from there." She teased.
Gabriel / Loki:
"I'm not afraid of that. Humans can't catch me," Gabe replied. He'd let that happen once, he wasn't going to let that happen again, never again. He finally hopped down from the fence and slipped his hands in the pockets of his jacket. When he was close, but not so much that he might push her away, he drew out a rose, offering it to her.
"Why don't you come with me? You look hungry and it'll be cold soon. I know someplace with food that's warm where you can stay." What was he doing? Saving a lady in distress? Ah, to hell with it, he had his impulsive moments and it rarely ever got him into trouble. Why not be impulsive with a beautiful lady?
Kali:
She motioned to the scar on his neck. She had grown to look at every cat's neck, just to see what their past might tell.. But the scar made her tsk.
"Not nice to lie, Loki. It's impossible to lie to me." She purred, though it carried a tone of warning to it. She had a temper, and she had no desire to try and curb it.
"Come with you?? She will be here to let me inside any moment. Besides.." She looked him over. "Don't you know a show cat when you see one? If I was to go out there, my fur would lose how clean it is.."
Ah so the real reason she hadn't left.. SHe was too vain to want to leave on her own accord.
She looked at him for a moment, her eyes unreadable, before she shrugged.
"But thanks."
Gabriel / Loki:
His smile fell as the past reared its ugly paw and tried to drag him back into it. His hand slowly fell and he stuffed it back into his pocket. Gabe shrugged and pulled the smirk back onto his face. He pushed the memories back to where they belonged and ignored the statement.
"Does my fur really look so bad?" he asked, his tone playful as he looked back at his tail. His fur was certainly longer than hers and it wasn't even the slightest bit matted. Didn't matter that he was a stray, he did his damnedest to stay clean and groomed. Most did. He'd only seen cats with mange or mats every once in a while. And usually those were long-hairs like persians.
He paused for a few moments and his expression turned concerned. "Will she really?" His voice was soft, no more flirting, no more teasing. Even he was surprised by the quiet concern in his voice.
Kali:
For a moment she wondered if she had hit a nerve. She felt a pang of guilt, but it was quickly pushed aside. Kali wasn't the type to feel guilty.
"No. If it had, I don't think I'd be in your company." She said, but it was a leading comment.. It was almost a compliment...
Who was she becoming? She was complimenting, oh gods.
But his tone grew somber, and hers did too. She looked at her paws, toes wiggling as she looked them over.
"I hope." She said softly. Though she wasn't sure if it was loud enough for him to hear. She wanted no one's sympathy, but she knew life was becoming difficult for her.. and fast.
Gabriel / Loki:
Gabe's lips twitched with a small smile when she admitted that his fur wasn't bad. But it was short-lived, because her face fell. He hated seeing her look like that.
"Kali..." Her name was as beautiful as her, he liked the way it rolled on his tongue. "It won't get better, believe me. He's pushed you out of her life and she's not taking you back. Do you really want to stay here?"
He didn't usually care, every cat for himself. But he saw something in her, something he missed. Hope? He hated seeing that die in her like it had in him. And that man would kill it for sure.
Kali:
She frowned at what he said, and her eyes showed pain. Even if she was loathe to admit it.
"Loki, it was a pleasure.. But I really think that I've had enough speaking for one day.." Truth was if she could literally take off and bolt she would. But she had nowhere to go. She knew there was a warm crate in the garage. Or it was warmer than here..
"You should go." And she turned, disappearing into the shadows. She had gotten a touch personal for one day.. Her human would never leave her... ever...Right?
Gabriel / Loki:
He saw the pain in her eyes and felt it echo within himself. As much as he was a selfish little b*****d, Gabriel still hated seeing a beautiful lady - even a pet - in pain. But he understood needing to be alone with that pain, so he slowly nodded when she excused herself. She didn't want his company any longer, he wasn't going to really force it on her. No matter how much he wanted to stay in hers.
"Okay, I'll go," he replied with another small nod and turned to go. But then.... He rethought what he had done and moved to the porch. Glancing over his shoulder at her, he gave her that stupid little smile as he produced the rose and held it up for her to see. It tipped a little at her before he set it down on the step, for her should she want it.
And with that, Gabriel turned and walked away, climbing a tree so he could reach the fence again and disappear over the other side.
He'd come back. He was certain she would need his help, and sooner rather than later...
