Ayadar
Link to Original Profile

Name: Ayadar
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Rank: Weyrfolk
Appearance: Despite his age and his lifestyle Ayadar is still a childish looking lad in the face. It clashes with the rest of his body. Ayadar is average height for his age, but holds significantly more muscle than is usual. The boy is visibly strong and yet his face is strangely young. A round face with an unruly mop of dark brown curls and large, deep, blue eyes. Freckles cover the lad’s nose and cheeks in the summertime, fading out during winter. Scars are scattered across the boy’s body, the one usually noticeable are those on his arms however that largest and most intimidating of them are on Ayadar’s back.

Personality: If you asked some people what Ayadar is like they would tell you an optimistic and happy child, ask others and they would say he was a quiet and well-mannered boy. This is as Ayadar’s personality seems to change dramatically depending on who he is with. Around children his own age and people he trusts or doesn’t seem as threatening the young lad is a talkative and relatively open individual. He often plays the optimist and attempts to comfort people as best he can manage. However, around adults that he is unfamiliar with or he finds threatening the youth will clam up faster than you can blink. He tends to remain silent, eyes averted, in these situations; speaking only when spoken to.

Ayadar is a protective soul, the lad seeks to protect and look after those that he feels can’t look after themselves. His protection however is more emotional than anything else. Violence is very distressing to him and the boy would be useless in a fight despite his physical strength. He doesn’t run from aggression, simply stands there and takes it. He’ll never be one to stand up in front of a bully and tell them to back off, more likely to appear from nowhere afterwards and offer help picking you back up again. If you need someone to tell you everything’ll be okay, that’d be Ayadar. Even when he doesn’t believe it himself he’ll say it to you. Ayadar is used to having to fix his own injuries and take his own lumps, becoming very independent when things get difficult. He doesn’t tend to automatically look for help and can even be a little reluctant in taking it. After all, this could just be another trick.

Perhaps common for his age, Ayadar doesn’t think everything through all the time. Although he is careful around people who intimidate him, the lad isn’t the brightest tool in the shed. Perhaps hurting a feeling here or there without realising what he’s doing. He doesn’t mean to be mean, he’s just a little blunt at times and maybe not as sensitive to other’s feelings as he should be. Ayadar does not assert himself and as such can often be forced into doing what other people want him to, especially if the force is physical. Ayadar would rather a tongue-lashing than being actually hurt. His resilience to insult is much higher.

Virtues: Protective, Optimistic, Thick skinned
Faults: Weak-willed, curt, cowardly

History:
- Month 1 190 Ayadar is born
- Month 5 191 Ayadar's mother leaves
- Month 7 200 Ayadar's father dies in a fire leaving Ayadar without family. Shortly after Ayadar is taken and sold into slavery

The Terrible Twosome - Solo Rp

The chores that the Weyr gave him were not hard. He in fact worried from time to time that they were actually giving him less work than they should, thinking he couldn’t handle more. He would have lessons either in the morning or afternoon, chores the other half and then his evenings were free. It was strange. Very strange to him. He had time, time he could do whatever he wanted with. Time where he wasn’t utterly exhausted, in pain or hungry. It was certainly strange.

This morning however he was to do kitchen work. Specifically to work on clearing and organising the back cupboards. Apparently they were full of spare utensils and other materials that were not often used, but people had a habit of pulling things out or putting them back without thinking. This meant that over time things ended up all muddled. So it was Ayadar’s task to take everything out, get rid of anything that was broken or unsuitable for its purpose anymore and then put everything back in order. He’d been told what that order was thankfully and after repeating it several times to himself had gotten the first cupboard sorted and then the second.

Now he was onto the third, opening up the door he was met with a similar jumble as the last two. He started at the bottom, since that was where the big and heavy things were. Mostly large pots, he imagined for stews and such things. The weight wasn’t much bother, so long as with the bigger ones he took the things that had been thrown inside out first. He had successfully finished taking everything out, he was free to do that as being in the back rooms meant that nobody was coming and going where he was, when he heard a quiet crackling sound.

Ayadar put down the pot he had been holding, which had apparently become a holder for spare wooden spoons at some point. Straightening up he listened carefully. In the distance he could hear the kitchen workers going about their business, but the sound seemed to be far too close for that. Turning slowly he tried to pinpoint the noise, which kept stopping and starting. He had come full circle before he was left looking at the cupboard. Maybe something inside? He sure hoped it wasn’t one of the shelves giving way, that’d be rotten timing. He hadn’t even put anything in them. Checking each shelf once at a time he was able to pinpoint the right shelf just in time for the sound to stop.

A few heartbeats passed, Ayadar staying very still in case the sound started up again. Instead of cracking however he head a muffled cheeping. What in the world? Pushing things aside he located a medium-sized, lidded, metal, pot. He picked up the pot and felt something move inside. That was concerning. What if it was a tunnelsnake or something? Still it could be something harmless, like a cup rolling around. Ayadar slowly lifted the lid off, carefully peaking under, only to have a pair of bright green eyes staring right back at him.

Surprised didn’t right cover it. The little creature forced his blue head out of the pot and began to squawk at the lad. In shock Ayadar promptly put the pot back on a shelf, taking off the lid so as not to trap the firelizard’s neck. Still the little creature squawked up at him. What was a firelizard doing in a cooking pot? The pair were distracted when the cracking sound started up again. The blue retreated into the pot, peeping curiously.

Ayadar leaned forward, curious at the sound. He looked inside and saw a pale orange egg speckled with brown rolling in the bottom of the pot. The blue seemed to be having an awkward time stepping around the shifting egg and stepping on the shards of what had been a dark burgundy egg. The egg lurched suddenly to the side, knocking the blue’s legs out from under him. The blue fell on top of the egg, causing it to break under his weight. The blue fell straight through and on to a smaller green firelizard, who wriggled and yelped underneath him.

The lad watched with fascination as the too firelizards untangled themselves, the green scolding the blue who only seemed to n** back. Ayadar did not know much of firelizards. He not even seen one before coming to the Weyr and thought them much like tiny dragons. What gold had decided to lay her eggs in a cooking pot? Or perhaps someone had hidden them there, Ayadar knew that firelizard eggs were expensive, but it seemed an odd place. The two tiny creatures seemed to finally settle their quarrel and in unison swivelled their heads to fix their eyes on Ayadar.

The squawking began again, this time with the green helping out. Maybe they were mad at him for finding them. The blue firelizard hauled himself out of the pot and onto the shelf. The green however stood on the edge of the pot, looking at Ayadar for a moment, before jumping forward. She awkwardly flapped her wings, but it seemed that her wings weren’t quite ready for that. Her tiny claws caught in his tunic and Ayadar instinctively put a hand under the baby creature. The firelizard didn’t seem to need it however as she quickly began to climb over him.

It didn’t take her long to find his pocket and with a happy squeal dive in. The blue gave a questioning peep and leaned over the edge of the shelf. What was it? “Hey! That’s mine!” Ayadar said, realising what the tiny creature was going after. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out the green, a handful of dried meat coming out with it. He tended to take a few extra bits and pieces of food with him from mealtimes since arriving in the Weyr. Never knew how long this situation would last. At the sight of the meat the blue echoed the squeal, leaping off the shelf and grabbing onto Ayadar’s sleeve, scrabbling into his hand and grabbing a mouthful of his own.

“Stop it!” Grabbing the meat with his other hand Ayadar pulled it away from the ravenous little maws. The firelizards each swallowed their mouthfuls and began to whine, climbing up his arm to try and get the rest. Ayadar wasn’t sure what it was. Maybe it was the pleading little sounds or maybe it was the familiarity of these two being left on their own with nobody looking after them that got to him. Either way Ayadar let out a defeated sigh, lowering his hand he offered the meat to the blue, who had worked his way onto the lad’s shoulder. The blue hastily grabbed the morsel, but Ayadar was soon distracted by the shrill cry from the tiny green clinging to his chest. He tried to offer the rest to her, but the blue quickly leaned down and plucked the piece from him, earning another betrayed shriek. Oh, this would never work!

Being careful of the two tiny bodies Ayadar carefully lower himself to the ground and crossed his legs. With the hand not holding the meat he managed to untangle the green’s claws from his tunic and place her on one knee, swiftly shoving a piece of meat into her mouth before she could complain. As she ate that he plucked the blue from his shoulder and put him on his other knee, quickly foisting food into his mouth. Back and forth he went. A piece for the green and a piece for the blue. By the time his hand was empty the two were calm enough to allow him to dig into his pocket for the rest, which soon also disappeared down into their stomachs.

While the blue let out a loud yawn, the smaller green firelizard began to walk up Ayadar’s leg, peeping softly at him. Her eyes were noticeably heavy and Ayadar reached out and rubbed a finger across her head. Leaning into the attention the firelizard purred contentedly. The blue, catching notice, was quick to join in. It seemed that, full anyway, the two were less intent on arguing. The blue pushed his head into Ayadar’s hand and he was forced to use both hands in petting the pair. The blue seemed to prefer the joint of his wings, whereas the green was more interested in attention around her head.

After a few moments of attention the two seemed to get a little wobbling. Together they moved still closer to Ayadar, pushing themselves up against his stomach. Creating a cradle with his arms the lad watched as the two curled up together and swiftly fell asleep. He wished he could keep them. Despite them being so loud, and stealing his food, and interrupting his work, he couldn’t help feeling something for them. It couldn’t be attachment, he’d only known them a few moments, yet as he looked down the idea of letting the two go was upsetting. Still, he couldn’t take care of them, he couldn’t take care of himself. Besides, what if someone did hide them there? Or what if their mother came back for them?

Supporting the two with one arm Ayadar reached up and brought down the pot. He turned it up to pour out the egg fragments and then set it down again. He scooped up the firelizards, and gently placed the pair back into the pot. He made sure to put it back where he found it and quickly, but quietly organised the rest of the cupboard around them. That way whoever they were left by would be able to find them again. He did however leave the lid off, he didn’t want to trap them inside after all.

Before moving on to the fourth and final cupboard Ayadar looked down at the pile of shards. He began to pick them up and carry them to the bin he’d been told to put anything no longer useful in. He stopped short of dumping them in however, it seemed a shame, they were very pretty. Picking through the pile he took out the largest burgundy and largest orange fragment. Putting the rest in the bin he placed the other two in a rag, carefully folding it up and slipping it into his pocket. It would be a nice keepsake of the pair. He hoped he would get to see them again, maybe one day they’d pass him by on the shoulders of a rider. Staying quiet to not disturb the sleeping firelizards Ayadar quickly took out and organised the last cupboard. Swiftly cleaning up and gathering his things the lad packed up and left the backroom, the slumbering pair none the wiser.
