(This is an RP for characters that are Old. "Old" being defined as having an apparent age of at least 40. Expect a lot of reminiscing, rambling, drinking, and "Back in my day")

The Silver Crown was not what you would call a high class establishment. The old brick building with its painted sign and plywood floorboards had been around since the nearby port was founded back in the early 1900’s. Today it is a common hangout for old timers, fishermen, and dockworkers.

Dora leaned against the worn wood of the bar. She stared pensively at the half-empty shot glass in front of her. She was enjoying her brief time away from her responsibilities. She picked up her glass and took another sip, letting the burn work its way down her throat before settling softly on her chest like a sleeping kitten. Whiskey was one of her favorite vices.

Sitting at the end of the bar was a man sporting an old leather coat, a long scarf, and an old grey flat cap. An old, black cane rested against the wood of the bar under his stool as he smoked an ornate pipe, the smoke of which, smelled distinctly of cinnamon. As the smoke wisps curled through the air above him, he would always tap the pipe ever so often to make sure the cinders were still burning inside. This happened to be one of the favorite spots of the disguised Captain Jubaku, as he quietly sat there in his gigai, trying not to think about the worries that lay outside the front door.

Dora's nose caught the scent of cinnamon. She looked over to the source of the smell. At the end of the bar sat a man she had seen once or twice before here, he looked about her age. She never caught his name, and assumed he was an old sailor stopping by while his ship was in port. What caught her eye was the ornate pipe in his hand. Pipes were not very common nowadays, the highly decorated ones even more so. She finished her shot and sidled up next to him admiring the smoking device.

Jubaku smiled a bit as he now noticed that he had seemingly acquired a new companion for the evening. She was not unfamiliar to him as he had seem her coming and going from this place many times in his recent memory. He shifted and blew another large stream of smoke into the air towards the opposite side of the bar, when he noticed beside her an empty shot glass with drops of a brownish liquid at the bottom. He turned his head slightly and looked at the bar keeper, only holding up two fingers towards him without saying a single word. The bar keep nodded and brought out two more shots of whiskey to Jubaku's end of the bar and sat one in front of Jubaku and one in front of Dora.

"An empty glass is a sad thing."

"Indeed." She said, looking at the glass pensively. Her graying brown hair was hanging behind her head in a ponytail. She wore khaki cargo pants, and a simple, slightly loose button down shirt. She was not dressed to impress by any means. The bartender poured their drinks and she picked up the glass in front of her, she sniffed it, savoring the smell of good whisky. "Nice pipe." She said, taking a sip of her drink.

He smiled a bit as she picked up her drink, smelling it first before drinking the first drop. Now this was a woman that knew her drink and as he watched her and her expression as she did so, he couldn't help but respect her for it. He shifted a bit as she complimented his pipe, the embers glowing a bit from the end of it as he removed it from his mouth to take a simple sip of his whiskey. He then knocked some of the ashes out of it onto a nearby ash tray with a thump of his finger before settling it back into his mouth.

"Why thank you kindly, Miss...?"

"Malcolm, Phoebe Malcolm." Dora said, giving him her birth name, which she occasionally used as a pseudonym now. Officially, "Phoebe" died in a tragic plane crash in 1988, bringing a sad, but not widely published end to a generous humanitarian. The truth of the matter was much more complicated. "Thank you for the drink, Mr. . .?"

"Grey. Just call me Grey."

Jubaku though that his real name might be a bit too conspicuous in the Human World, especially as the leader of the investigations squad. So for now, he used the name Grey as a cover as he is often referred to as the "Grey Man" for his title and his older appearance and hair color.

"And don't worry about the drink. The company is more than fair compensation."

"Grey. . ." Dora responded, giggling. "Sounds like some kind of secret agent." She took another sip of her drink, letting the liquid swish in her mouth for a little while before swallowing. "You have good taste. Most kids today just don't have the patience for good whisky." She said, swishing the glass and looking at the 'legs' running down the sides.

Jubaku could only manage to smile and laugh a bit at her comment. He took his glass and sipped a bit more of it this time, putting it down to half.

"You do me far too much credit Miss Malcom. I'm just an old soul trying to find his way in the world."

He then listened intently as she began talking about whiskey again and the kids of today. He then slammed the other half of his shot down, the warm tingle trickling down the back of his throat and settling in his chest, like sitting close to a fire on a cold Winter's night.

"Bah. Kids of today. The young of today couldn't handle a drop of the ole rotgut much less a shot of this."

"No, most kids nowadays drink too fast. Like you just did." Dora said taking another sip for emphasis. "Most kids today just drink to get hammered. But it's not about the destination, it's about the journey. . . I drink to enjoy the taste, to feel the warmth, experience the leadup to drunk."

Jubaku simply smiled and laughed as she pointed out his simple gesture of downing his drink like the kids would. He wasn't an avid drinker but he knew when he had made an error.

"I wholeheartedly agree, but while you have your vices, I have mine."

He smirked a bit and blew a long billowing strand of smoke from his mouth and nose with his pipe still in his mouth.

"I haven't smoked since '98. Almost never see pipes anymore. Cigarettes, sure, even cigars and hookahs but most kids today don't appreciate a good pipe" Dora said polishing off her drink, slowly swishing it around her mouth. She took another sniff of the empty glass, getting one last smell of the liquor. "My granddad used to smoke corncobs. Of course, he lived out in Nebraska on a farm."
