I'm a bit biased but I love Yu Yu Hakusho. Its an old one but I love it.
If you like something more thriller and creepy like Higurashi is pretty good.
I also enjoyed Claymore (season one)
Attack on Titan was also great. :3

Chuunibyou is a really cute anime. I just finished the first season and I'm about to start watching season 2. Definitely recommend it.

Fate/zero is a great, high-action anime with lots of drama and intrigue. Heroes, mages, epic fights, cruel betrayals, and the quest for the Holy Grail. How could you go wrong?
Bleach is definitely a guilty pleasure for me. It is very very Shonen. There are a thousand characters so you can always find someone to like plus they all have kick a** swords and powers to make the fights great. It can get super formulaic, but it's a fun one to binge with friends. Plus, there's over 300 episodes, so you'll never run out.
Madoka is wonderful and sad. It is so very very sad. It is pretty and creative and it does great things to the magical girl genre... but it is really depressing.
I'm also seconding the Attack on Titan suggestion. It is wonderful, though it was a bit over hyped to me, so I didn't like it as much as some of my other friends. Do be prepared though, it is PTSD and crazy eyes the anime.

Samurai Flamenco is actually really good, extremely odd, but it plays with the tokusatsu genre, making fun of it, but also doing it respect, and its writing it fantastic.
Still recommending Sidonia no Kishi is you can find it, probably one of the best anime I've ever seen if you can get past the fact that its 3d and mecha.
Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse is also a mech anime but it is again one of the better ones.
Second on the Claymore...but there is only one season, though I'm pretty sure it only exist to get someone reading which I recommend. Though, there is a useless sidekick so....be ready for that.
and Excel saga if you like crazy and nonsense anime, not for everyone, but I love it.
Oh and Armored Trooper Votoms, its old, and its another mech anime, but really Armored Trooper Votoms.

For actiony ones not yet mentioned: Ghost in the shell. Elfen Lied. If you're looking for comedy/romance I recommend: Ranma 1/2. Also there's one out called Space Dandy now which is really quite amusing.. A really cute one I have on dvd is called Gakuen Alice.. It's so cute.
