Magnolia joggled the small sphere in her palm before stretching her hand over and plopping it into the younger Kangaskhan's hands. Zeta stared at it in awe; eyes drawing wide at the sparkling object. Flipping through a few pages, the lavender-haired girl skimmed over the a few lines and wagged a finger at the jewel.
Without removing her eyes from the page, she said, "Y'see, that there, Theta, Zeta, is a Kangaskhanite. It's a rare stone that can make you mega evolve into a new form. You would get strong, Theta, and Zeta would even fight beside you, like this-!"
Magnolia turned the book over and flashed the two a page with a pair of parent and child striking a pose after their evolution. Zeta's eyes sparkled at the image.
"So I just have to wish you to evolve, and you will. Okay..." The fourteen year old closed her eyes, began to concentrate, and then they snapped open with an arch of determination. "Theta, Zeta, mega... mega evolve!"
She cast her hand out to the two as if willing them to do as she commanded. The time between her and her Pokemon stilled as a pearl of sweat formed on her temple until, eventually, all excitement died down and Theta and Zeta stood there with a clueless O on their faces. Magnolia blinked in dismay and suddenly flipped wildly through the pages again.
"W-what's going on?" she stammered. "You guys should've changed. Something's not right..."
Rho, who was in his usual place around her neck, let out a sigh and suddenly moved to sit upon her shoulder. In between her page swiping, he stuck a paw out, and jabbed it straight into another illustration in the book. His trainer blinked at the stone.
"Glamrrow," Rho said, cocking his head to it.
"O-oh?" Magnolia blinked. "That's a... Key stone? Why would..." She read over the page and grimaced with a slump of her shoulder. "No way... I also need a Key stone to have you guys evolve?" Theta shrugged, causing her to sigh miserably. "Haaah, how much would that be, then? I-I can't afford to buy it after shelling out so much for that suddenly useless thing." She strode forward and plucked the orb from the marveling Zeta's grip. "Guess we'll try this another time..."

Zeta's bottom lip puckered out when he was relinquished of his new toy. Magnolia patted his head to quell his nearing tears. "I'm sorry, Zeta," she apologized. "Here, have something better to play with." Reaching into her messenger back, she withdrew a small stick with an end shaped like a Minccino's tail. Handing it to him, the younger Kangaskhan blinked at it, drew his mouth open to a wide smile, and waved it wildly with cheers. Magnolia chuckled at the sight.
A smooth gale drifted over the grasslands, curling up the girl's dress and causing a her hand to rise and clutch onto her sun hat protectively. She allowed herself a small smile as she turned to her Pokemon. "It's kinda early, but we're done training for today. Let's head back into town now, yes?"
Theta dipped her head at the younger girl as Zeta continued to flail his toy mirthfully. The two began to trek their way back to Motterossa, but their start was short-lived when there was a sudden explosion to their left. Both trainer and Pokemon shirked back in surprise and, at once, Theta used her large body to shield Magnolia from the debris of rock and dirt pelted down from the sky. The sudden disturbance also set Zeta off, causing him to wail in fright.
Pulling him from her pouch, Theta tried to sooth him by cradling him to her shoulder as Magnolia began to march forward. "Kang...!" she cried out to her, but her warning fell on deaf ears.
Shielding a hand over her eyes against the glare of the setting sun, Magnolia noticed a figure clad in white in the distance and a purple-pink orb zipping away from it. The ball of energy was racing with surprising speed; zigzagging this way and that as the figure followed. Suddenly, it made a sharp arc and changed trajectory in Magnolia's direction. She didn't have time to react until whatever it was collided with her and crashed her to the ground straight on her back. Rho jumped up before he too became a victim to the object's speed, staring with worry at his owner to make sure she was all right.

Magnolia hacked violently from the impact pushing the wind from her lungs and the fog of dirt that clouded her completely. As it slowly began to clear, the traveler pried an eye open and glanced down to the trembling form on her chest. A Pokemon had she never seen before pressed its head into her bosom, ball-like members clutching her shoulders tightly. Pushing herself up hesitantly, Magnolia cupped a hand behind the creature's head, and gently persuaded it to show her its face.
"Hey, hey, it's okay..." she muttered in a soothing tone as she gently stroked the crown of the Pokemon's head. "I'm not going to hurt you..."
Tentatively, the Pokemon pulled its head back, and glanced up with terrified eyes into the fourteen year old's. Magnolia gave it a gentle smile, but when Rho rushed forward and hissed at the alien creature, did it bury its head back into her bosom again. His trainer shot him a glare, causing him to shirk a bit.
"You don't have to be scared, Rho was just being protective. He's like that. No one here will hurt you, okay? So... What's your name? What were you running from?"
Magnolia's eyes flicked back to Rho with the intention he'd translate for her if the creature communicated via Pokemon speak, but when her replies were delivered telepathically, did the fourteen year old jump a bit. "I-I don't have name," it responded, undoubtedly female, "A-and I'm running from a s-scary person. A person who wants to hurt me."
The traveler was unsure whether to be surprised this Pokemon was capable of communicating just like Altais was or that the imminent danger that she was escaping from was standing right in front of them. The dark teal-haired woman narrowed her eyes at the small girl with her hands to her hips and her head cocked back in an intimidating manner. The large R on the vest of her uniform caused Magnolia to shiver. Before her was a member of Team Rocket.
"You there, kid," the woman huffed out, "I don't know what you think you're doing, but that thing there's mine. Kindly give it here if you ain't looking for trouble."
Magnolia bit her bottom lip in fear, but when the creature's hands moved from her shoulders and hugged her tightly about the middle, begging to be saved, did she reconsider her internal phobia of crime syndicates. Glaring at the woman, she shook her head.
"No," she growled out. "This... She's scared of you. You're obviously a bad person, so I won't return her to you. You leave immediately, before-" Her speech was cut off when she noticed Theta had marched up behind her and was standing defensively by her side. She had managed to quell Zeta between the impact and the appearance of the Team Rocket member. Even Rho was on edge as well, though he was hoping and praying whatever was to happen next did not turn into a tussle. Nodding her head at both of them, she continued with, "Before we start a fight."

Lennyka harrumphed before an impressed grin. "You've got guts, kid," she chuckled, "We'll see how that goes. Daffodil, Hydrangea, go!"
The Team Rocket agent flicked out two Pokeballs and out popped a Raichu and Poochyena. Both looked ready for a fight, as did Magnolia's, and it was only the tenacious glares between their two trainers that halted their actions. It was Lennyka that beat Magnolia to the punch with the first attacks.
"Daff, Thunderbolt! Hydi, Dark Pulse!"
The Raichu squeezed her eyes shut tight and provoked a sharp cackle of lightening from her cheek pouches as her companion formed a ring of dark energy and shot it out towards the opposing Pokemon. Magnolia's eyes widened as she searched her thoughts for attacks to counter, but suddenly, a protective shield of energy was thrown up before the four of them. The two attacks hit squarely at the barrier's center before it dissipated them to nothingness. A look of astonishment encompassed all faces in the area except the singular Pokemon's who still had hers hidden into the fourteen year old's chest. Quickly snapping from her awe, Magnolia used the moment to her advantage to retaliate.
"Theta, M-Mega Punch! Rho, use Slash!"
The Kangaskhan tightened her right hand into a fist and charged at the Raichu. Rho let out a bedraggled sigh, reluctant to fight, but refocused his concentration and dashed out in unison with Theta; his claws extended and glowing to strike at the Poochyena. Lennyka, too tongue-tied to shout out orders to dodge, watched in dismay as both Daffodil and Hydrangea were overtaken by the power of the fourteen year old's Pokemon.
The die had been cast.

The Raichu and Poochyena thudded to the ground as Rho and Theta returned to Magnolia's side. She stumbled to standing, a fierce look of determination straining her face as she rose with the creature still clinging to her. Lennyka, intimidated enough to take another step back, even held up an arm before herself defensively.
"Leave. Now." Magnolia demanded. "Leave immediately before I take you out with your Pokemon."
The agent's voice croaked as she debated her choices. She's strong, she mentally noted as her brown eyes flicked from the girl to her Pokemon. But I just can't run, not without it... It dawned on her her only option may be to use the emergency code, but even then, there was uncertainty as to what would happen next. The experiment was unstable in that mode, would she even listen to Lennyka's commands?
"Leave!" Magnolia bellowed again, breaking Lennyka from her thoughts.
I've no choice, I have to.
"Experiment 89585!" Lennyka cried out. "C-code 15183894!"
The fourteen year old frowned deeply at Lennyka, but suddenly her expression fell to surprise and concern when she felt the creature's hold on her loosen. Her arms fell to her side and her head never once rose from its downcast position. Magnolia looked to her in concern and clutched her shoulders.
"H-hey, are you all right?" she asked gently. "If something's wrong..."
"Use Psystrike!" the Rocket agent ordered.
The Mewtwo's neck snapped upright. Magnolia's eyes widened as she stared into the eerie glow of the Pokemon's. Suddenly, there was a sharp burst from the experiment, and Magnolia, Rho, and Theta were cast backward by a powerful pulse. All three landed a few length from the creature and all but Magnolia lost consciousness. Straining to see through the blur overcoming her, the fourteen year old watched as Lennyka strode forward after withdrawing her Pokemon and pressed a Pokeball to the experiment's back. Suddenly, the creature that once clutched to her begging for help was sucked inside and, after three rhythmic shakes, settled inside the sphere without putting up any effort to fight.
"W-wait..." Magnolia croaked aloud, raising a trembling hand trying to stop the agent as she fled. "C-come back... D-don't take her, don't..."
Suddenly, her strength gave way, and her arm hit the sod of the grasslands as she lost her consciousness and remaining bits of strength.
