Red sighed, nodding his head sulkily as he trotted ahead to open the door. His mind was still wrapped around names and he paid little attention to where he was going, accidentally stepping on something.
And that something let out an ungodly screech before sinking its claws into his ankle.
"OH SON OF CIDER!" he cursed then clapped a hand over his mouth, glancing down at an extremely pissed off Opalescence. "Oh Opal... I'm so sorry..." he grimaced, bending down to pluck the cat off his hoof with much difficulty. He hobbled along, wincing every time he had to step on that one hoof...and then an idea hit him!
"Opal! What if we name one Opal! No...she'd get confused with the cat. But what if it was different....hm..... I got it! Morning Opal!" he beamed proudly to himself, glancing at DJ for the other stallions approval.
Clearly he had forgotten all about their stealth mission. Lyssa bobbled her head and blinked her eyes, focused on her sister and their sudden movements or jerks. It was weird being in this....thing...moving...under blankets. She couldn't hardly see but out between some loose strands in the basket. Just enough to see flashes of something white, then red, then that noise.
Oh she liked that noise!
Giggling loudly she opened her mouth and attempted to copy the noise, though her's was a little off. It didn't quite sound as beastily, but more hallow. Empty almost, or at least as empty as sound could get. Feeling pleased with herself she giggled softly, tapping her little hooves together.
And then a sudden jerk tumbled her over into her sister's lap and everything was sideways.
Do not like!!!!

Opal wriggle in protest she did not like being stuck under the blankets that had been layered on top of them. The sensation of the basket they where in being picked up and carried was strange and she pushed at the blankets some more as she tried too get a better look at what was happening, a wailing of protest budding on her lips.
Suddenly there was a loud screeching hiss which brought a giggle delight to the tot. It did not last long however as everything was suddenly lurched sideways and she felt herself slam into the side of the basket and her sister was tossed into her back. She not liking sudden and rough change in direct the she did what came naturally her which was to start screeching herself.

Jumping in surprise as Red apparently was attacked, DJ held his breath. His first initial thought was to ask if his brother was alright, but then watching as he unceremoniously plucked Opal off his hoof made him roll his eyes.
"Red..." he half scolded in a rough sort of whisper. "We'll think about names later! We need to--.... Uh oh..." His grumpy reminder was cut off short by the growing wails coming from inside his basket. "Shh, little ones. Almost done!" he half-cooed and softly rocked the basket then looked to Red in a slight bit of panic. Running was still an option, right? "Go go go!!"
Granny was still snoring - which was a minor relief to DJ for the moment - but he knew she wouldn't stay asleep long if they started wailing. Princess Celestia! They sounded waaaay too creepy to be real. DJ began to wonder if he was merely dreaming... but then again, Opal was only ever nice to him in his dreams... That scowl Opal was giving him was enough to prove to him that this wasn't a dream.

"I can't not think of names, they are mine!" Red hissed back at his brother but continued to rush downstairs, trying to help keep the little ones calm and quiet. They really did sound creepy. Mega creepy. But... m-m-maybe they'd out grow that? Maybe? Hopefully? Please dear Celestia and Luna let them out grow it!!
Coming out of his thoughts, Red paused at the last step to listen for his mother, father or little sister, waiting till the coast was clear and making a b-line right for the door. Once at the back door he did the same, peeked around the corners to make sure the coast was clear before strut-running towards the Barn. The quicker they got to the barn the better... for all four of them. At least momentarily. And then maybe DJ would finally humor the red speckled stallion and let him think of names.
"Hurry up, I got the door!" he hissed, pulling open the door and waving his hand to hurry and usher DJ inside. When her sister started screeching, Lyssa did so as well, almost as if they were on the same switch. She tumbled backwards a bit as the basket moved again and hissed at the sounds of those two big idiots trying to shush them. Flailing her hands at them, she almost preferred being under the blanket if it meant the jumbling would all stop and she could actually sit still!
Still somewhat sliding around on her butt, she used the movement to slide closer to her sister and place one hand on the red tot's arm, making graspy movements with her fingers. Her other hand latched on to one of her hooves, as if doing this somehow would make her stable. Her ears pricked to the sound changes, the subtle change of more muffled like sounds to clear, wide open sounds. Things made noises in the distance and a bunch of different smells hit her nose. Enough to make her pause in silence to work that little brain to take it all in.
She wanted this newness, whatever it was. She had to have it... more of it. Not just what she was getting stuck in that basket.

The little faun had assumed that screaming would have gotten the strange basket thing that she and her sister where placed in to stop moving so roughly but she was mistaken. As her and her sister cries started echoing the voices of the two big pae started making loud noises and the rough bumpiness of their 'ride' increased.
Opal continued to scream trying to alert the big things that this was not okay. She did not like! Feeling her sister grab onto her arm the red tot tried to hold onto her sister. The new sensations where enough to make her screaming quite down just a bit as she tried to figure out what was happening. Tilting her head she babbled a bit at her sister.
Her tail thumped a bit and she swiveled her ears trying to pick up the strange new muffled sounds that could be heard.

DJ wasn't about to complain about them dipping into the barn for the time being. These two little bits were heavy in the little basket and the edges of the basket were starting to dig into his fingers the longer he held onto them. He swiftly dodged into the barn and darted straight for the back behind a few piles of hay higher than Red or DJ themselves.
"Oh man..." he grumbled as he gently set down the basket and flexed his fingers. "We can't keep them here long. We'll have to make camp or something wherever we decide to build our own barn." he frowned. He hated hiding things from mom and dad. They always seemed to know that they were hiding things. They were clever individuals... so they had to act fast...
He took the towels off the tots and sighed. "Just for a little bit, you two..." he half-cooed/half-warned. He then turned to Red. "I'll go get the small wagon ready. I have any idea on where we can build the barn where Mom and Dad won't come peering around too often. You stay here and keep them out of sight. If I see Dad or Mom, I'll... I'll think of something to keep them away from the barn until we're gone..." He looked at the two little.... babies? and cracked a soft smile. The smile grew stern in a flash to his brother. "You owe me one..." He then grinned and slapped a hand down on Red's shoulder. "I'll be back shortly."

Red nodded as his brother went, trusting DJ to have a plan all worked out. He was always there for him no matter what, it wasn't even a thought in the dark that his brother would go do the opposite of what he had said he would.
So here Red found himself....with two little babies that looked something like him. Something...not. And also really creepy.
Yet at the same darn time really really cute.
"Hey lil'uns. Sorry about that. Didja like the ride?" he chuckled, reaching out to gently tickle his little red 'twin' baby under the chin. "Little Morning Opal!" he cooed in pride at the name, rather proud of himself for coming up with it. But the other one needed a name still and one wasn't coming so easily for the little grey one.
"Hmm.... Misty.....Silver....Smokey....smoke...whisper..." he sat down, spitting out names then frowning and shaking his head, none of them seeming right "Sky...dark...cloud....night....flight...fly....Night...fly...Nightfly?" he blinked, looking over the little grey one again, something clicking this time. As well as a thought. Neither of these two looked fully faunie like himself and his parents. If anything they were vastly different...more fuzzy...pointy tails...bat wings...fuzzy ears.... maybe a... none conventional faunie name? How did one even think of a name like that? Did they just mash sounds together till something sounded good?
"Misssssss-taaahh.... Lesss-liii.... Liss-te...." he started drawing out sounds, trying to find something that sounded good. Pondering hard on this, Red had forgotten to keep an eye on the kiddos. At least until he felt teeth sink into his ankle mid speech. "LysssssSSSAAAAAAAAAAAH!" he gasped, reaching down to grab his ankle.Lyssa stopped biting and looked up at the big red immediately at his last scream. She had fought so hard to crawl out of that basket and worm her way over while he was distracted that his sudden increase of volume startled her at first....then made her laugh a hollow echoing like laugh. Clapping her little hands together she bared her fangs and bit down again, wanting to make him make the same noise over again. When he did she grinned gleefully and crawl-squirmed her way over to her sister, little knees and hands scooting her along as fast as she could. She liked this sound! Red blinked at how the grey one responded to the last sound he made. Even if half unintentional. Lysssssaaaah? Lyssaaah...Lysssaa. Lyssa. Lyssa!" he beamed happily, rubbing furiously at his now punctured ankle. "I'll call you Lyssa...and add Nightfly just to stick with faunie names." he cooed at her..... though he had no idea he was babbling to himself really. shadica Sorry for taking so long T,T Seruta And ssoorryyy, Red's name figuring out muse got away from me XD

Opal giggled happily as she was tickled under the chin. She pouted when he stopped and was about to cry when she noticed her sister working her way out of the basket. Following her sister out opal took a moment to take in the new surroundings before she started to crawl off in a random direction ready to explore. She didn't get very far before a scream caught her attention and caused her to start laughing again, undoubtedly giving away her escape. Seeing her sister trying to wander over to her, Opal started to Squirm-Scoot her way back. ( Sorry this took so long! D: )

Satisfied that his brother had things under control in here, he snuck back out of the barn and looked around. He saw his father leaving his mother's boutique on the other end of the field. He froze for a moment and watched as he saw the red figure linger around on the other end of the field before making up his mind to head towards the tree.
DJ let out a deep sigh of relief and turned, looking for the small wagon.
The small wagon was something his Dad had given them when they were younger. Their continued eagerness to help with the farm chores was rewarded with their own wagon! He couldn't think of a more appropriate time in which to use it since they're older now and seem to be making more use of their father's spare wagon instead.
He looked at the bed of the wagon and frowned. He couldn't set the kids on the hard wooden surface without some sort of protection... right? They'd get splinters... he was sure of it. He looked around a bit and spotted some hay bales. He tossed a few in and broke the cords on them to scatter the hay in a more bedding appropriate way... Still unsatisfied, he quickly slipped back into the house and gathered a few of the spare quilts in the downstairs closet to lay over the hay for additional comfort. Now satisfied, he did quick work to set up the canopy of the wagon and cover it completely, leaving the back open for his brother and the kids to get in.
There was still something missing though...
He tapped his chin and went back into the house. He listened quickly to make sure that people were still sleeping... then found a few of Rose's old toys lying about. A stitched doll and some blocks. She was too old for these toys now... His parents might ask about them... maybe Rose would too, but they'd deal with that nonsense later....
He snatched them up and started back for the door, but he stopped in the kitchen as his stomach gave a grumble. Darn it all... They'd need food...
He grabbed up the fruit basket off the table and opened up a cupboard or two. He found some bread and some nuts and berries to add to the basket of fruit already and added the toys before he felt he had enough. He then darted back outside as quietly as he could. He tossed the basket in the back of the wagon and started leading the wagon into the barn.
He did another quick look around before opening the doors and shoving the wagon inside.
"Get in." he half-whispered and pulled aside one of the flaps.

Red had kept himself busy with the girls while DJ went on about preparing things. He had almost forgotten what they had set out to do. The girls were so cute, even if one did hurt...and they sounded a bit creepy when they laughed... but they were already lots of fun. And also his.
That piece of information was taking a while to sink in but it felt like it had just touched bottom. He was a father. No clue who the other parent was, if they even had any, since he clearly couldn't remember anything from that night past the crazy haunted mansion bit. Yet here he was, with two little girls.... peculiar, odd, twisted, creepy, cute, adorable, painful girls.
Sighing, Red looked at DJ when he had told him to get in, scooped up both the girls...then stopped. "You really think this is a good idea?" he said softly, second guessing himself and their plan. Didn't mom, pa, sis and Granny have a right to know there was new apples in the family? Or were they too different? Frowning, Red glanced down at the top of the girls heads as they fidgeted in his arms before moving to set them inside the wagon. He lingered a few moments before crawling in himself. "Don't go too crazy with the driving... ok DJ?"Ok no the fun was gone. Chewing on him didn't do anything anymore, he was all stuck in his head! Silly big Red!
Ooooooooooo what's that thing?!!
Lyssa's tiny hands flung wide open, her little wings wiggling as Red put her into the wagon. And then she stopped. There was crunchy stuff under the soft stuff under her butt. Every time she moved she could hear it scrunch and squench and other weird noises. There was also a squishy thing and little hard things tossed in.
Wiggling over, she grabbed one of the blocks and brought it up to her mouth, chewing on the faded purple corners. The worn out image of a hand painted zap apple was covered by her fingers as she gnawed away at it. When she had discovered that it didn't taste quite as good as it looked, she spat her tongue out with a tiny Bleh!" noise then handed the block to her sister. Here, she could chew on the yucky thing.

Opal started to protest loudly when big Red picked her up. She wanted to wander around more! She continued fussing, failing and squirming in his grasp until he put her down again. Victory! Or not quite the little one opened her eyes after having closed them during her tantrum to find that this was not the area they had been before.
The ground was a sort of squishy soft thing but it crunched when she moved. She let out a small giggle at the noise. It looked like her sister had beaten her at scooting away from the big Red, and it seemed like Lyssa had found something interesting!
Opal let out a pleased gurgle as her sister handed her the faded purple block. She quickly stuffed the block into her mouth, or at least she tried, the large block was to big so she ended up chewing on one of the edges. Like her sister she quickly discovered that the block was yucky. Her response to this realization was a disgusted "Bleck" followed by promptly throwing the block at the bigger Red one.

As Red loaded up the kids, DJ went to the back of the barn to gather up some tools. He felt bad for having to borrow some of Dad's things without proper permission or warning, but... they needed to build a barn or something to make it through the... well, whatever length of time needed to gather up the courage to let mom and dad know they were sheltering and raising strange children.
He stuffed the tools into a saddlebag and scribbled down a quick note for Big Mac. Something about an 'IOU' and that they'd explain later, but they were taking initiative to do their own thing.
Satisfied, he headed back to the wagon and was about to toss the tools on board, but saw the kids gnawing on and tossing the blocks. This made him rethink that decision quickly and attach the saddlebag to a belt before quickly fastening that to his waist.
"You ready?" he asked, then quickly placed the tailgate of the wagon and locked it in so as to keep the kids from tumbling out. "We gotta get movin' lest we run into Aunt AJ or Granny Smith. Or..." he gulped slightly. "Or Rose..." AJ and Granny, they could handle. With Granny, they could start talkin' nonsense and she'd wander off on her own. AJ, just tell her there were fruit bats in the other field. She'd be off on a ramble of country-isms and gallop off to correct the problem.
Sapphire Rose, on the other hand, was a whole new breed of Pony. She was more like her mother, yet stubborn and nosy. She wouldn't settle for a simple "Shoo. Go away."... If she caught wind that they were building their own barn, she'd want to be a part of it too! And would follow them endlessly and likely find out about the kids.
He shook his head. "I'll go as easy as I can. No promises. Just... Just keep them quiet for at least five minutes, ok?"
DJ dropped the flaps, and ran around to the front of the wagon. He took a deep breath and gripped at the bars, lifting the wagon with ease. He'd easily carried heavier loads than this on his own. This would be a cake walk. He steadied himself so the wagon wouldn't tip back or pull him along and then stepped forward. He paused briefly, checking again to make sure the coast was clear and then began moving forward, out of the barn and around, aiming for the supply trail into the woods nearby. There was a path already, looping around the farm and entering out the back end of it... they'd just have to get there and decide how much further away the new barn would have to be.
