Yeah They filmed a lot of it in color but it was usualy brodcast in black and white and they usualy kept the black and white stuff for the archives and for distribution to the poorer countrys it went to. Thats actualy from a special feature on one of the DVDs.
Which DVD was this on? Was it the recent Hartnell and Troughton "Lost in Time" sets?

No it must have been one of the american DVDs. Its not on any of the British ones LOL. Theres something thrilling about seeing Hartnell in action in colour! (He was trapped in a time bubble in the Three Doctors so he wasn't in action then!!)
redface I can't quite remember which one it was.. crying it is on an American DVD I think. we have all the DVDs released here and about two that were released in England so.. statistics say.. I know its not on the lost in time DVDs (which were also released in the states BTW. But I think its on one of Pertwees. I think it might be on the three doctors.. but it also might be on spearhead from space. I remember watching it though!
Also someone is recolorizing some episodes.. hes doing it for free and for fun based on color production stills. Its on you tube if you want to check it out.

Although all Doctor Who clips rock, I love the black and white era and I think there's something kinda wrong about seeing them in colour... sad

I saw the clips... some of the scenes were almost flawlessly colorized, but there's a few iffy bits. Too bad the BBC didn't retain the original color film for those stories. Of course this is the same BBC that decided to incinerate several of the older stories in an effort to save some shelf space...
