 What a day! The Fae had returned to her forest home relaxed from the day's events, but also exhausted. The carnival had been so exciting! A dramatic change from the calm and quiet of her normal, daily life. It had only served to remind her of how much she missed having other Pae'il around. Sure, she visited her father at his new beach home from time to time, but she craved more social interaction. Maybe it was time to do something about that.
Eh, in the morning. After some rest.
"Hello, Shira. Glad to be home," she cooed, leaning down to scratch the rabbit behind one ear as she entered the subterranean abode. Her old friend leaned into the gesture, then turned to nuzzle her nose into the Fae's hand. "Yes, okay, I get it, you're hungry," Eudora giggled, straightening up and moving to grab an apple from a nearby table. On a second thought, she grabbed another for herself before sharing the late snack with her lapine friend.
After bidding Shira goodnight, she retreated into her room for a much-needed night's sleep.

Even when completely exhausted by an activity-filled day, Eudora remained a light sleeper. She always had been. Perhaps it was a subconscious fear of missing some interesting, exciting event happening while she slept.
Having lived alone (aside from Shira, and rabbits weren't the noisiest creatures) for several seasons, she wasn't used to noises in the middle of the night in her home either.
The sound of something toppling over in the living space outside her bedroom door had Eudora sitting bolt-upright from a dead sleep. What the...? She'd bolted the door when she'd returned...right? No one could have gotten in...unless Shira... A soft scratching at her door prompted her to stand. Could a rabbit be making such noise? And why? What could be wrong at this hour?
The Fae lit a small candle at her bedside before answering the door. As expected, the rabbit sat just outside, looking up at her. Then, she turned to look back into the living space behind her, then back to Eudora. Following her gaze, the Fae met an unexpected sight. Next to an end table, a tiny toddler sat, gleefully playing with a silvery, metallic container and whatever contents it held within.
Where...did she come from?
Could she have gotten in somehow? And if so...where had she come from before that? How did she get into my home?
Then she remembered her parents wondering the same thing about her at this age. Crossing towards the strange toddler, she crouched down and reached to take the metallic object from her. Was that...sugar? Oh dear... "Oh no, honey, you'd better give me that," she fretted, gently prying the child's fingers off the bowl Seeing her frown and start to sniffle, Eudora sent a desperate look towards the rabbit. Help me!
'...you're going to owe me big for this' was the look she received in reply as the rabbit reluctantly hopped over to make her presence known to the child.At first, her face lit up at the arrival of the big Pae. Light, she could see! And she wasn't alone anymore! But then the lady tried to take her bowl with the sweet, sweet goodness inside. As it was pulled from her grasp, a few granules clung to her hands and she started to sniffle, preparing to let out a sorrowful wail at the loss.
Ooo, fuzzy!
She reached out sticky hands for the fluffy bunny, squealing and cooing as she grasped the creature's soft fur.'BIG, you hear me?' the rabbit's glare seemed to say to Eudora.

It was well into the early morning by the time Eudora managed to get the little one to calm down. The sun should be up any time now, she thought to herself, tired eyes fixed on the toddler in her lap. She stroked the child's hair, trying to finish lulling her to sleep. Nearby, a very irritated-looking rabbit was trying to finish cleaning the worst of the stickiness from her fur, aiming a glare at Eudora and the toddler from time to time.
"I wonder where she came from...?" the Fae mused quietly, stifling a yawn. Shira gave her a look that said 'who cares', compounded with a dismissive shake of her fur. Eudora only chuckled softly, though it felt a bit forced considering her level of weariness. Ugh, bed sounded so good right now. Just as soon as the little one was asleep. But...
...what was she supposed to do with her?
Of course, there were spare beds from when her whole family had lived here long ago...maybe she could set her up in her old child bed. Though, that wasn't really the nature of the question. What was she supposed to do about a strange child showing up in her home out of nowhere? Did she have parents out looking for her? How had she gotten into the magical abode?
Ugh, she'd have to figure all this out after some sleep. She was in no condition to fret over it all now. Moving extra carefully, she attempted to lift the toddler and cradle her while rising, but without jostling her awake again. Maybe it was fortunate that they both seemed exhausted, as the child remained asleep.
"Sorry again, Shira. I promise, after some sleep, I'll go out and get you a whole basket of carrots." The Fae was answered with a roll of eyes and a soft huff, reminiscent of 'you'd better'. Smiling tiredly, she added, "Promise," before shuffling off towards bed. She'd let the little one stay with her tonight until she figured out what to do with her later. Surely someone would be looking for her...right?*****
