Name:
 Mazaah
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
(In the process of finding it out for herself, actually – I only know it for sure because I'm her player.)
(Currently she think's she's Homosexual, as she has a female preference. Gradually, she will realize that she is attracted to men too, and accept that she is Bisexual.)
Craft/Rank: Dragon Candidate (for now, maybe switching to wher) at Malvren
History:

When the Revolution came, Mazaah and her family were delighted. She was the second daughter of a family that had bred, raised, bonded with, and trained whers for generations in their Hold, and when the Masterhandler rose up, they rose with him. Even Mazaah fought, albeit without a bondmate, and was part of the force that took Malvren (17).

That was the first show of solidarity she had shown to her family in years. Mazaah had never been one to be put in a box, and when her family first started pushing her down the trail of the family business, getting her early training for wherhandling (13), she decided not to.

Displaying an affinity for actual boxes, she ran away from home, smuggling herself in a trader's caravan. At another hold, she took up an apprenticeship in woodcraft. It was what she thought she wanted, but in the end it was only the start in a series of apprenticeships she thought she wanted: she tried Tannercraft (14), Beastcraft (16), which lasted until a year after the revolution. Then, at Malvren weyr, she tried Cookingcraft (1 cool , didn't like the chef, and proceeded to drift.

Her mother found her on a visit to Malvren weyr and implored her to come home, and she almost did: she hadn't found what she wanted to do with herself, and the stability of her family and her future with them was very tempting.

Unfortunately, that was the day the Crimson flew over Malvren, and soon Mazaah had a new thing she wanted to try: Dragon Candidate. Her mother was irritated with her almost success in bringing Mazaah home, but knew she could not convince the headstrong girl to go with her, not by begging, goading, or force. So, she gave Mazaah final deal (19).

She could stand for the clutch or clutches – should the Crimson lay – but after, she would go home and take on the family business.

The Crimson did not lay, but the Gold did, and Mazaah stood for it. She did not impress amidst the excitement of the Hatching, but she did realize something: It might not be a permanent thing, but she did know she wanted to do it again.

The question now remains: when her mother comes back to claim her end of the deal, will Mazaah escape again, or will she let her mother take her home?

Description:

Generations of Mazaah's family weeding out the weak among them – and the genetics that Pern started with in the first place – make her hardy, and it shows in her stocky stature and thick body. Her mild, laughing olive eyes are set in a ruddy, rounded, strong-boned, deeply-dimpled face, which positively glows with warmth and good nature.

Her thick, curly, slightly oily black hair blooms into a sullenly unruly mane around her head, and is often partially tied in a ponytail or headknot. It resists taming, and Mazaah has never bothered to do much more than the absolute minimum to it.

Her clothes are old leather, softened by wear and only patched in some places. Despite their age and 'used' condition, they are clearly well made, implying that it was a hand-me-down or something she picked up in her travels.

Personality:

Mazaah is, at her core, a highly-motivated go-getter who doesn't always know just what she's getting. Though her path through life suggests uncertainty and a lack of focus, Mazaah is incredibly sure of herself and the decisions she has made, as well as the ones she will make in the future.

Equal parts confidence and overconfidence, Mazaah often acts recklessly. She is convinced that she is totally in the right. She think's she's awesome, and - while she doesn't smear it obnoxiously in everyone's face - Mazaah makes it very clear that she totally knows what she's doing.

Nothing is ever her fault: it's a problem with something or someone else. The table was faulty, the egg was thin, someone else shaffed up. She refuses to see that she is in the wrong on anything. Fortunately, she is easygoing about it, and is willing to smile, shrug, and “agree to disagree”.

Despite wanting to get along, her behavior does hurt others, and it is difficult to tell whether Mazaah realizes it or even cares. Its not that she's mean – she genuinely likes people and wants friends, and she does care for them. It's just that she doesn't really, completely, care about anybody besides herself.

She is completely blind to this fact, and doesn't understand why she doesn't have more friends than she does, or why anybody would want to avoid her. She's smiling, she's nice, she's fun, so whats the problem? She's happy to make the first move in a social situation, initiating conversation and carrying it even with a difficult social partner. And, for a time, this can win her friends. But, somewhere along the line, her innate 'me-first' often turns people away.

Despite her flightiness (exhibited by the sheer variety of jobs she's tried), Mazaah is well behaved and – while she's devoted to something – comes bizzarely close to being a 'model student'. The problem is, her interest level is like an off switch: it is either there, or its not, and there is no gradual decline. She will forge ahead for a time after she's lost interest, but unless in the unlikely chance that it is regained, she is off to her next interest.

Other:

Dragons:
Dragons are neat. What more can she say. Mazaah likes whers, but dragons are huge, they fly, and they have gorgeous contours... not to mention they fight Thread, which sounds absolutely exciting to her.

Whers:
Whers are great too, and she's known them all her life: in fact, she adores the little beasties. This dragon candidate stint is probably just a flash in the pan unless she impresses: she won't admit it, but she is proud of her family and their family business.

Resistance:
Mazaah thinks of the Resistance as wherrybrains who don't understand that times are changing. However, some kin are handlers within it – much to the rest of her family's displeasure – and she doesn't hate the Resistance or its districts: she just thinks they have their heads up their arses.

Revolution:
Mazaah was born into a wherhandling family, and its almost as if she was born for the wherholds, albeit a little early. Despite her conflicts with her parents, she firmly believes in the Revolution and it's cause, and – though she doesn't understand all the politics – is willing to support it loudly and vocally.

Euclid:
Mazaah isn't sure what she thinks about the Euclid Weyrhold, other than that it's apparently a thing.

Keller:
Mazaah is a huge fan of the Masterhandler. She thinks he has the vision and competence to pull off awesome things. In other words, she thinks he is awesome, and there may be a little hero-worship-crushing going on regarding him and his gold. She is firmly in his camp, even if she's a little shallow about it.
