~::The Tower of Babel - Daimyou's Garden [Floor 168]::~

Throughout the Tower of Babel rest floors which reflect the darkness inside of humanity...when humans venture within, their shadows come out to play, changing the very face of certain levels within into the dungeon of their nightmares, putting on display that which they don't want others to see. But for those whose shadows have already taken control, whose darkness rules and acts according to its own design, there are unique floors entirely under their command, bending to their will as they seek to ascend to the top of the Tower.

Floor 168 is known as the Daimyou's Garden and stands as a reflection of the troubled inner conscience of Amagai Genji. A once-beautiful but now-decrepit and dying traditional Japanese garden patrolled by derelict samurai and powerful, modern-looking robotic shadows that are often at war with one another...it depicts the sense of hopelessness and loss of culture rooted deep at the heart of the young heir. Old ways clash with modern society in an increasingly-hopeless struggle, leading to a loss of identity and self...

...

Here is the Daimyou's Garden, a reflection of Japan's cultural revolution and the heavy costs paid...the struggle of past versus present which wars on even now, in many of Japan's youth to this day...

Amagai Genji, the Investigation Team's Gentle Fist
"...You see the surface, but my eyes see more...I see your intentions and fears. I see what you truly are..."

It was unsettling, this strange world in which they found themselves...but what was more unsettling than the crumbling, traditional garden, the beautiful world around them melting away into something dark and perverted, was how striking the imagery was to the unease within his heart. It was symbolic, wasn't it? The fear inside of a traditional past that he treasured fading away, becoming irrelevant to the modern world...an artifact that would one day fade from the world entirely...this was, it was the dark world born from his own heart, wasn't it? He had heard the stories from the other members of the Investigation Team, and Minori had told him in-depth about the embarrassing Clock Tower that had been born from her own heart long ago...she had confided in him that truth, and now he was seeing something that resembled what was locked away inside of him. He could recognize it...but that didn't mean that he wanted to accept it. This fear, this belief that the world was changing, that...that wasn't truly what was inside of his heart, was it? He had always believed that he could find the balance between their family's traditions, between the Way of the Gentle Fist and the Amagai Clan as it had always been...and the modern world, the Japan of today...there was a way, a place, that they could co-exist...was what he had always told himself. And yet, this world spoke to what he truly feared...to what he truly believed, wasn't it? That unacknowledged fear...that ugly truth within...no, he wouldn't, he couldn't accept that, could he?

"I understand now why it was so hard to talk about it...Minori..." he wanted to bite his tongue to keep from giving voice to anything as treacherous as this place was to his heart, but he knew that would be cowardice. He needed to face this place, to face the fear within. He had to be as strong as Rednal had been in the face of his own Shade, and Minori before her own Shadow. He had to stand like Nix had in front of her brother in spite of her own wounds, and...he could not back down from the future of his family. He had a responsibility to his family, to his friends, to the people he loved. And yet... "But this, this is not..." his feet trod through the dying paths of flowers and trees and cracked cobblestone, eyes taking in the sights...palms aching to strike at the side of some rail, some building, to knock this wretched place from his mind with his own two hands, "I do not want this place...this future, for my family...I reject it!"

Throwing his arm aside, he turned at a sound behind him but saw nothing; his eyes flashed white and his pupils faded, his power filling him completely...his hands growing bright, but his focus was not yet settled on any one target. He felt like lashing out, like screaming...and it took all of his discipline not to do that. And yet, there were more terrible things in this world than false sights and hidden fears, weren't there? Friends were missing...those who had come with him were scattered...and somewhere in this Tower, there was HIM...the shadow of their leader and his followers. He had to stay focused, to stay on guard...he could not...could not let this place get to him...!

But it was all easier said than done.

Fonias Lekes

"Reject it? Such strange words to hear from of a member of the heroic Investigation Team." A cold yet calm voice echoed across the ruined garden, the owner of it making himself known as he stepped out before Genji. There was an amused smirk across his face as he looked over the pink locked heir. Green eyes shifted to look at the crumbling scenery around them, the look never leaving his face. "So this is what you're really like hm? Heh. How pathetic that you are struggling this bad with yourself! You try to keep a calm facade from what I heard but deep down.. Well look around." The blond hissed, lifting his arms to gesture to the decrepit garden around them. He lifted a foot to hold it over a wilted and dried flower, bringing it down to crush the flora. Fonias knew he was going to have fun with this one, Genji was already losing control over his emotions so all he needed was a little shove.

"It's clear you're about to crumble under all of this. Why keep struggling? It's much easier to give up and reject all of this. After all.. You're no hero. You've only been the unfortunate victim in all of this. Couldn't defeat a few Shades, your team had to save you. You couldn't help at all in the first Prix from what I gathered.. All you did was feed sugar coated lies to one of your 'friends'. Not exactly the actions of a good guy from my perspective. Especially when you look ready to go berserk on the place, unleashing mindless violence." Fonias paused to let that all sink in, certainly it would cause some sort of reaction. He was confident in the information he gathered from various sources. All he needed to do was rile this kid up some more to throw off his concentration. Even if he couldn't get that Persona to turn back into a Shadow, at the very least he could shake him up. The Black Messiah was no fool, he was well aware of how strong Genji was..

"...You see the surface, but my eyes see more...I see your intentions and fears. I see what you truly are..."

It was only a matter of time before one of them appeared, he supposed; this event was just like the last one, pillars descending almost instantly when the 'opponent' stepped out from the shadows. That was the least of his concerns at the moment. Mental warfare was a talent of the Black Messiahs, but it was one that had yet to be used quite so effectively against him as this new enemy seemed to be trying to employ. There was an unassuming look about him as he casually taunted them, but his white-gray eyes could see the evil aura emanating from his body like that of the other members of his organization. He couldn't hide what he was from the truth of the Amagai Heir...but in this place, with all that he held in fear inside of his heart laid bare before the two of them, this time there was nothing that he could do to hide his own thoughts as well. It was disgraceful...but he couldn't let himself dwell on that, couldn't be taken in by base insults from the likes of this foe. And yet...he couldn't just accept what he saw within the Garden, nor could he so easily cast aside the truth of what lay before him and the pain, the struggle it reflected within himself. Was he really so hung up on all of this that this is the world born from his own inner thoughts? This was...this place, it felt so familiar...and so sad at the same time. And this blond Messiah was enjoying every last needle he could dig beneath the skin. He had to concentrate...

"It is clear I am about to crumble? What wishful thinking," the heir bit out sternly, letting power flow throughout his body and focus into his palms...he wasted on time in taking on the challenge, not needing even the General's prodding to be ready to fight this trash-talking foe and quiet the dagger-like words spitting out from between his lips, "You believe that you know me because of what you see here? This place...is nothing but a lie born from my own insecurity. A fabrication of your world that I intend to destroy with my own hands, to restore peace. Your words are a dull blade, Messiah...you will not draw my blood with that." His words were bolder than this place made him feel, but he knew how to fight and he knew how to maintain as calm a facade as he was managing. Knowing that the boy's words were taunting didn't mean that some of them didn't strike him with the force of a blow; he couldn't know why he had been targeted by the Shades before, but the truth had been he couldn't stop monsters like that on his own no matter how valiantly he had fought them off. And in the last Grand Prix he had been forced to let Nix advance on her own, facing the trials ahead due to his own injury. But it hadn't been any kind of sugar-coated lie...nothing he had ever said to that girl had been anything close to that. He truly believed in her...and the power that their friendship inspired. And now this...this place, this boy, they made light of all of that.

Shaken, disturbed, none of that mattered...he would not disgrace the faith that his friends placed in him and let him win.

"You are right about one thing...I am no hero," the berry-haired teen's expression grew dark as he set his feet...and in an instant he was across the floor, a flat palm strike crashing straight into the sternum of his enemy with a blue energy flowing powerfully about and exploding with contact, "But whatever I may be...it is more than enough to defeat you!"

Fonias Lekes

How annoying this brat was, trying to keep that calm and collected face in front of him. Fonias wanted to beat Genji and move on to the next target but he hadn't gotten him to crack and break down yet. That was vital if he wanted to win this match but the berry head was proving to be mentally stronger then he seemed.. Or was that really the case? His words did provide an opening two for another round of mental torment. Though the blond had no time to muse about that just yet. In a flash Genji was close enough to land a hit on his chest, blowing him back with an explosive energy. It knocked the wind out of Fonias but he managed to laugh a little as he got back to his feet, a twisted grin coming to his face. In that instant the man saw something he could hopefully exploit, plant some doubt in the other's mind if fate was on his side.

"A lie born from your insecurity? You would just love for that to be truth wouldn't you? I'm sure all you little Investigation Team brats wished for the same thing.. But this world around us? This is your truth you have been hiding from everyone." The grin turn dark as he looked at Genji, eyes seeming to glow with a mischievous look to them. Fonias now knew just what to say, something no do-gooder ever wanted to be faced with. "You want to destroy this place with your bare hands hm? You admit that you are no hero. You know what that means don't you? .. You are just like us. A Black Messiah. Bringing forth peace through destruction. Just our style. Hell you even made the same dark expression as we do!" Shortly after his words were spoken, he summoned his Persona to unleash a wave of darkness towards Genji. He did have to fight back, words alone wouldn't win a match like this.

"...You see the surface, but my eyes see more...I see your intentions and fears. I see what you truly are..."

His hit connected sharply; the lack of a sturdy defense meant that he had probably done significant damage to Fon with his first unbridled strike. However, the way he laughed and stood was more than a little unnerving, as though he had found some kernel of faith that he could latch onto in that simple exchange between the two of them. His eyes glared daggers of amusement and malice in the direction of the Strawberry-Haired Heir, and as he spoke again, Genji couldn't help but feel the words digging in shortly under his skin. It wasn't enough to rattle him, but there were unpleasant comparisons rife throughout the niggling taunts that he kept winging at his enemy. His feet slide in a circle as he set up for the next round, and his hands moved through practiced paths, readying for the vital, clashing strike coming up between the two of them. It would be critical to the outcome of the fight, he knew...Fon, for all his bravado, would know that taking that last strike square had weakened him. If he didn't fight back now he was going to fall into an impossible hole. And one iron-clad rule of fighting was that desperate offense (or offense in general) in practice left holes in one's defense.

It would hurt, but if his counterstrike found its mark, it could settle the match between them with a definitive flourish. But the way he spoke, that disgusting confidence and way of twisting words into something different...something perverse...he knew they were lies but it would have been much easier if he could have simply seen the falsity in them. Things he could see were easier to dismiss with these eyes of his. ...Things like the dark power dwelling inside of him, like the attack he'd launched in his direction and the danger in which he suddenly found himself in. Dark energy...he couldn't entirely avoid it, but with the power of his..! Light engulfed him and his hands glowed...dark washed over him and for all intents and purposes it seemed as though the sudden attack had found its mark and then some.

"Like you? Is that not the first line in 'How to Sound Like a Cliche Villain'?" and then just as swiftly the darkness washed to the side and was tossed away by an open palm, the magic passing to reveal a fused, dangerous-looking Persona-Fused Warrior standing before his foe with renewed purpose. "You and I will never be alike; your power was born from submission to base desire and instinct. Mine comes from the friends who stand beside me. Let me show you..." in a swift motion he passed the distance between them, hands brimming with unbridled power, intense eyes blank and observing all...a critical moment between them reached, "The difference between you and I."

Amagai Genji Dec. Fonias Lekas [Superior Damage Dealt/Received]

[Genji advances to [Round 2 Stage - Pervert's Domain]! Fon may go anywhere else in the Tournament, but cannot interfere in P1-Climax Battles!]

Quote:
As the battle concludes and the four pillars collapse, the two fighters feel an unusual fatigue coming over them...and before their eyes crystals, like tiny, twinkling shards of dust and light gather in the air before them...swirling about...before ascending towards the top of the Tower and out of sight.

Something about this disturbs you...but as the Tournament directs you forward, you have little time to consider what it means before moving on...
