The building smelled of old wood, paper, and ink. When Lithian stepped in through the front door — a fairly rickety thing itself — the floorboards creaked under his boots and he had to blink several times to adjust his eyes to lack of light inside. Cobwebs lined the upper shelves on the wall opposite the door, clearly unused for some time, contrary to the lower shelves which still had a few stray containers atop it. The shelving structure itself lay behind a main counter, thick and built of old wood, but sturdy looking, bare but for a few discarded odds and ends. To the far left of the front room — which as a whole presented itself as a fairly typical, if small, merchant shop — there was another door.
Moving in, Lithian stepped out of the light spilling in from the threshold and moved towards the side door. Through it, was the “livable” portion of the building. A small cot, covered in a thin but neatly folded sheet, a small but sturdy looking dresser, and an open archway, blocked only by a movable curtain, that lead into a tiny space that could pass as a dining room and cooking space. Bare bones, compared to what Lithian had accustomed himself to in the past, but a space he could call his. And Cas’, if Cas consented to live with him here, until they gathered the money for something more substantial.
He glanced back over his shoulder, looking to see if Casseth had followed him in.

Casseth moved into the building when Lithian moved away from the doorway, frowning at the smallness of the place. Even he was not used to such small quarters anymore. Though, when they had first come to Eowyn, his father and him and lived out of an inn for quite a few months before finally finding a place of their own. His gaze flicked over what he could only assume would be the waiting room and office portion of the business. The place could use some sprucing up, be over all was in decent enough shape. Cas would be able to deal with the minor repairs himself and get help from his dad if anything major needed to be fixed.
His gaze flicked to Lithian as he moved into another portion of the building. Cas followed after him, smiling when Lith turned back to him. “Do you like it?” Though it was a small place, Casseth would be more than content to live there with Lithian. He thought back to their walk on the beach and Lithian’s talk of a house by the ocean. Cas leaned against the doorframe, watching his intended carefully. The man deserved a place that would make him happy and Casseth wondered if he would be able to give it to him. Buying was out of the question. Neither of them had the kind of money it took to buy a house outright.
Cas’ tail flicked back and forth at his next thought, surprising even himself. Maybe he could build a place. Right in the spot that Lith and him had stopped at and talked. He had helped his dad build some of the forge and Cas was sure that his father would be more than happy to help with the task. He kept his mouth shut for the time being, wanting to talk to his father before promising Lith anything. Instead, he moved over to Lithian, arms wrapping around him and kissed his cheek. “Home sweet home, yeah?”

Lithian flushed, relaxing at Cas’ approach and touch. He’d been through the place before, in the past, with the company of the man who recommended it to him as a potential — scoping out its size and potential uses — but he hadn’t brought Casseth by until today, and had been sincerely worried Cas wouldn’t have approved, or taken too much issue with it, or thought it too small for the both of them. His tone, however, suggested none of those, and some of the eagerness that Lithian had first felt when inspecting the place originally bubbled back up.
He nodded in answer to Cas’ question. “I do. It is small,” he admitted, “but there’s enough space. Enough for now, anyway. We can clean up the front area, clear the shelves and I can use the space for the most common remedies people will come looking for — basic salves, potions for minor ills and infections, contraceptives — and there’s well enough room to put up another shelf or two if need be. I can take house calls for those with more serious afflictions, or those who need specialized treatment or emergency visits, and once we save up enough for a new space of our own, all the back can be transformed into storage. Books, boxes, tomes, manuals, vials, ingredients, spare tools and bandages, herbs…it’ll be easy enough to move out the cot when the time comes, but until then, it’s safe, secure, and near to the church besides…”
He glanced back to Cas.
“And near to your father. Do…you like it?” he asked.

Cas smiled as Lithian talked, going over what all he had planned for the small medical practice. He could not wait until things were up and running. Lithian’s excitement was rubbing off on him. “I can borrow some tools from my father and help fix up things that need sprucing up. It shouldn’t take long or much. A fresh coat of paint in the main room.” Casseth tilted his head as he glanced around the small room, mind already working at how best to use it for storage. Already, he knew that they would not be here too long and there was no reason to get overly attached to it. He kissed Lith’s cheek again before pulling away. “Do you have a name in mind?”

Lithian blinked. “A…name?”
It made sense, he supposed. Most often, small shops of all sorts had some sort of working title. But he hadn’t honestly given it even a spare second’s thought. It hadn’t occurred to him. He simply wanted to heal, and the business details of such a goal had gone largely over his head. Frowning, thoughtful, he reached up, thumbing over the ridges of his horn.
“I…hadn’t even thought about it,” he admitted, flushing. “I suppose I should have one. I wouldn’t even know where to begin, though…Bhardvaris…Apothecary?” He shook his head. “It sounds strange, and too stiff. Wave goodbye to sickness…like, with a small image of painted waves…?”

Casseth chuckled and shook his head. “You should take your time. Find something that feels right. Don’t want a name that doesn’t fit.” He smiled at Lith, tugging him back in close. “There’s plenty of time for all that later.” He nuzzled Lith’s neck, kissing and licking up to his ear. Cas hummed happily before whispering into Lith’s ear. “Let’s break in the bed, hmm?” He nipped lightly, making his meaning clear.

“Yes. Time for…” Lithian trailed off at Cas’ string of attentions and shivered. “Mm. Time…for…” He turned, flushing as he dipped to catch Cas’ lips in a kiss. “I don’t even own this place yet,” he murmured, though he was smiling as he said it, and he allowed Cas to tug him in.
“So?”
“Mm…” Lithian opened his mouth, but then squeaked and laughed as Cas shut the door with a tap of the foot and dragged him off towards the mattress. All things considered, he supposed they did have plenty of time to work things out later.
