The wind was fast and whipping at her coifed hair as she tried to approach the edge at the top of the skyrise, trying to tell herself she wasn't that high, and besides, those railings were for safety!! Araina groaned to herself as she felt herself shaking in her boots, rubbing at her arm as she scooted her way over to the rails to take a peek over. Squeaking at the sight of everything down below looking so small, she quickly backed up and sighed, slumping over, "I shouldn't be so freaked out, I'm a demon dammit, I have wings!" she pouted to herself, ignoring how the wind was making her hair come apart and fall about her shoulders.

Sheridan was far from afraid of heights, rather he was most at home in high places, the higher the better, the closer to the stars.
At that moment, he sat perched on the railing, his gazed turned toward the night sky, tail flicking lightly like a cat napping in the moonlight. He might have even seemed like a gargoyle sitting there, almost still apart from the movement of his tail and the rustle of the wind through his long hair and broad wings.

She took in a deep breath, a determined look coming to her face as she puffed up her cheeks and straightened her shoulders, " Buck up girl, you have wings, nothing will happen to you!!" she declared, stomping her boot and marching her way to the railing. Shuddering at the tiny lights down below, she gulped and hauled herself up, standing on the railing. But a strong gust blew by, making her wings open up and she shrieked in fear, feeling herself starting to lift up and she flailed her arms, tears coming to the edges of her eyes.

His head turned, his attention caught by the sound of a voice and footsteps. Silver eyes watched as she nervously climbed onto the railing. Despite having wings, it didn't seem she was especially comfortable at this height. Then why--
The train of thought broke and he quickly stepped into action. Standing to his full height of seven foot eight inches, Sheridan reached out to catch the female and pull her back to the solid surface of the railing.
"You should be more careful up here, those sudden drafts can catch you off guard."
He paused for a moment, then indicated to (comparative) safety of the skyscraper roof..
"Perhaps it would be best to step off the railing."

She felt for sure she was going to fall and she would just be a smear on the pavement and she would never learn how to fly and-wait, was someone holding her? Hearing a voice telling her it was probably best to be careful, she looked up and saw the unexpected face looking back at her. Shrieking, she jumped out of his arms, but to the relative safety of the buildings roof, and she took a few steps back, "Oh geez, oh wow, don't scare me like that! Of course, I already scared myself, why did I take that bet?!" she said, starting to ramble and looking even more freaked out and nervous.

Sheridan blinked, still standing perfectly balanced on the railing as he gazed at the female. That was not quite the reaction he had expected.
Another moment, then finally he smiled, a kind look in his silver eyes. Wings spread like a pair of sails, catching the wind to rise from the railing. He hovered a brief moment, then with a tilt of his wings, he settled back on the roof with a gentle thud.
"First time this high?"
She didn't seem especially comfortable up there.

She squeaked and jumped again when the tall male landed close by, her cream colored fur puffing out a bit. She got ready to puff up and declare she had been up high so many times, she had lost count and then get ready to laugh in her false bravado. But he had saved her and was looking at her with kindness and wasn't making fun her like she expected anyone else to do. Sighing, her shoulders slumped and she looked down "I'm that easy to read, huh? Yea, this is pretty much my first time up this high...I wanted to see if I could actually fly, I have wings!" she exclaimed, gesturing to the bat like wings folded down along her back, as if scared to open back up and catch another gust of wind.

She was a bit high strung wasn't she. Well, he supposed he couldn't blame her. While he had never known a fear of heights himself, he had known fear.
"Perhaps the top of a sky scraper is not the best choice for your first flight. But so long as you're up here--"
Sheridan gave her a gentle reassuring smile. His wings spread, and with a single beat he rose a short distance from the roof, the wind catching his wings to hold him aloft. He held a hand out to her.
"--maybe I can help."

She didn't to act so skittish, but she was truly freaked out. She just wanted to go back to the staircase and take her sorry butt back down to ground level and avoid her 'friends' for the rest of her life. She rubbed at her arm, feeling quite ashamed at being caught by another flyer and her deepest fear quite clear to his eyes. She looked up when she heard him make his offer and hold out his hand to her. Blinking, she straightened up and tried to straighten her hair, "But...we're up so high and what if my wings freeze up? What if I fall? I don't want to die, I still haven't seen alot of things!" she asked, fidgeting her hands.

Sheridan shook his head.
"I won't let you fall, I promise."
They had barely met, he didn't even know her name, and she had no reason to trust him. He couldn't have said why he'd offered to help, maybe it was because he so enjoyed the height himself. But his offer had been sincere, as was his promise, he would make sure she didn't fall.
"But if it makes you feel better, we'll stay away from the edge."

She should have said 'no thanks', she would try and find a more ground level way to fly, but....she was here now and he didn't even laugh at her or tease her about her obvious fear of heights or her freaking out constantly. A small gust of wind blew past her, and despite how it made her stomach drop, something in her wanted to open her wings fully to feel it, to actually fly into the air. "Al-alright, as long as you make sure I don't fall. My name is Araina, just in case I do fall you at least know the name of the one you let drop.", she said by way of introduction.

"I'm Sheridan, and I've never dropped anyone before."
Not that he made a habit of flying other audios around, but she didn't need to know that. All she needed to know was that he wasn't going to drop her. Sheridan had spent more of his life on the wing than the ground, she was safe.
"Now relax and spread your wings. Feel the wind, move with it, don't fight it."
He took her hand, that same gentle reassuring smile in his eyes. His own wings spread to their full extend, he waited, waited for her to find her courage and open her wings. Only then would he pull her a short distance into the air.
"Concentrate on the view above, rather than the view below. The stars are much more beautiful than the ground, don't you think?"

She wanted to huff and say 'That's easy for you to say', but he was being helpful and kind to her and the last thing she wanted to do was insult him. So she took in a deep breath to make herself relax, even though her knees were still shaking. But she really wanted to fly, to not worry about the ground anymore, not think about her worries and fears anymore. So her cream colored wings slowly started to open up fully, spreading out and feeling a bit uncomfortable since she rarely let them open up that wide. But he promised she wouldn't fall, so she would have to trust him at his word.

Sheridan was patient, waiting for her to find her balance in her own time. Rushing her would only make learning to fly more difficult, and perhaps frighten her beyond repair. Finally, when he thought she was becoming comfortable with her wings, he spoke.
"See, not so bad is it."
The ability to fly was the greatest gift, to feel the wind under your wings, to soar so high you could almost touch the stars, to forgot the pettiness of the world below. To miss that gift was a tragedy.

A small gust of wind blew by and started to lift her up. She squeaked, her first instinct was to fight it, get back to the ground where it was safe. But, again, she had to trust Sheridan was going to make sure she would stay safe, so she held back the fear and just let her wings do what they meant to do, though her grip on his hand was a bit tighter now.
