UVALO

We are the extension of our Empress's will.
Ours is but to serve in Her divine name.
Never to question, nor to contemplate; we simply act.
We fight, toil, and serve so that Her vision for us is made reality.
Her happiness is our reward, her sorrow our failure.
We will give our lives for the Empress without hesitation. She is the light, and without Her our lives will be lost to darkness.

[The Mantid]
The Uvalo, or the 'mantid' are a flock of birds living within the same forests as the Luut Jumalatar do. With an empire stretching for a majority of the forest, they value ruthlessness, agility and cunning over kindness and other weaker emotions. With these traits they have carved a name for themselves in the forests they reside in and even beyond the borders. With these traits they have chased out those who would oppose the will of the Empress and claimed new lands for themselves. With these traits they make the name "mantid swarm" something to be feared.

[Sha & Y'Shaarj]
Y'Shaarj is an Old One, a being the mantid believed to have existed before Mkodi and the false gods she created. His seven heads were worshiped by the mantid of old and his name still drives fear and respect into the hearts of the mantid today.
The Old Ones were there at the dawn of creation of possibly even before, living in the void of nothingness. Regardless, they sought to destroy everything good in the early world. He consumed hope and begat despair; He inhaled courage and breathed fear. They believe Mkodi struck Y'Shaarj down, burying him deep within the earth where he would never be a threat to the world again. The mantid await his return to the mortal world where they will join their forces with him and finish what he started so long ago.

The Sha are gods whose domains happen to be based on the seven heads of Y'Shaarj. They are not worshipped by the horde of mantid, but are looked upon with some amount of reverence as in their eyes they are whispers of Y'Shaarj. The list of Sha are as follows:
    • Sha of Anger
    • Sha of Despair
    • Sha of Doubt
    • Sha of Fear
    • Sha of Hatred
    • Sha of Violence
    • Sha of Pride

[Naming]
Names within a mantid hive vary. Most names contain a S or K in it and range from two to seven letter long. They seem exotic to those not from the swarm as it is not uncommon for names to have an apostrophe in the middle of them. Some example names are below to get an idea of mantid names:
      Hisek, Kil'ruk, Zikk, Kil'zit, Kik'tik, Kla'vik and Zor'lok.

    [Kypari Trees]
These mostly large trees are where the mantid make their home. Here they nest, train, grow and survive. Inside each of them in a hollow carved out when the tree is to become a kypari tree in the hive's eyes. There are several kypari trees spread out throughout the forest. Each with their own name, usually names after a member of the Klaxxi or a Paragon. The kypari tree's names also have a suffix, 'vess, indicating they named after a member of the Klaxxi though are only formally called their full name. The names are short, usually only two to four letters long.

The name of a kypari tree is also used as a sort of title to explain where each member lives. The suffix " 'thik " is added after the name of the tree to form this title. While not a name, it is used to describe the mantid's home tree and is typically put in front of the rank.

    For example:
Your clutch-guard lives in Kypari Vor, then they would be a Vor'thik clutch-guard.

    List of Kypari Trees:
    • Ik (dead)
    • Vor (dead)
    • Kor'vess
    • Kre'vess
    • Sra'vess
    • Zan'vess
    • Klaxxi'vess

[Sap & Amber]
The sap from the kypari trees is a staple of their diet and the life-blood of the flock. It, along with the other parts of their diet, sustain them. Even the young swarmborn are fed sap from these trees from a young age. Amber found in the earth around these trees as well as any hardened sap in general is referred to kyparite. Only those of importance to the mantid may even wear kyparite unless it is a gift for some act though it is a rare occurrence as proper amber is scarce.

The over-draining of sap from a kypari is considered a crime punishable by death to the mantid. This is something no mantid would ever consider under rational thoughts. To do this would be to invoke the wrath of the entire swarm. They would be killed for the atrocity they caused.

[Song]
Sound plays a large role within mantid society. They use it to communicate mainly, but some are capable of higher pitches used to disorient enemies of the Empress. From a young age, all chicks are taught how to sing, hum and chirp to the reverence of the Empress. It is a sort of status symbol within the flock to be able to screech loud enough to stun an enemy of the flock, the same goes for being able to sing so sweetly to lull anyone in a false sense of safety.
