Personality: Ash is depicted as quiet, polite, and calm for most situations. Before a clan war, that caused him to lose his moemories, Ash seemed to be emotionless, maniacal, and cold at times, as well as occasionally deadpan emotionless. Afterwards, however, he is shown to value the bonds of friendship and is highly concerned about his friends, going to great lengths in order to help others. Fortunately as he grows closer to his group, he opens up more and more, and by the end he is as unique (though still quieter) as any of the other characters. He has a dry sense of humor, and sometimes does questionable things which he thinks are funny. He also seems a bit naïve and oblivious to certain situations, which somehow keeps working to his benefit; especially when dealing with the girls, as he is able to get away with things that would warrant a smack for any of the other male characters, mainly due to how little he would mean offense. His biggest insecurity is abandonment, he has the fear of losing contact with all of his friends when he's away from them.
Biography: Ash is born into a peasant family under the given name of "Satoshi". After losing both his parents to a disease by age seven, he is sold into slavery. The slave-traders' is attacked by bandits who kill all of the peasants except for Satoshi, who is saved by a skilled swordsmanship master named Hiko Seijūrō. He renames the boy "Ash", do to the rearranging of his name Satoshi.
After a few years under Seijūrō's guidance, Ash's wish to protect the people with his powers results in his abandonment of both his master and his training, which was left incomplete and with a heated bitter departure. His sword skills soon attract the attention of Makai Nurarihyon, a leader of the Nura clan. Ash is sent to Kyoto and assigned the role of an assassin, sharing the common goal of the Russian military spec-ops. Within the first six months of his career, he kills over 100 people, and eventually becomes known as the "Demon eyes, Satoshi".
At one point, he comes face to face with a woman named Yukishiro Tomoe, who initially wanted to avenge the death of her boyfriend whom Ash had killed, but falls in love with him instead and starts a romantic relationship. After the crisis suffered by the Nura clan, both Ash and Tomoe act as a couple to keep anyone from finding out Ash's true identity as an assassin and flee to a remote village.
Sometime later, Tomoe meets with the leader of the Yaminobu, a fictional pro-Shogunate covert network of terrorists that had formulated a plan to assassinate Ash. She realizes that all along they had actually used her to create Ash's weakness. Meanwhile, Ash runs off to find his girlfriend, but is ambushed by Yaminobu terrorists and is severely wounded. He manages to defeat them and eventually finds Tomoe with the leader of the Yaminobu. In a desperate attempt to defeat the leader, Ash blindly swings his sword, killing both his assailant and Tomoe, who jumps in at the last minute to save Ash from a fatal attack. Tomoe's knife flies into the air and coincidentally slashes Ash's already scarred back, creating the famous X-shaped scar across his back. Before dying, her last mystical words come to reveal the dark tragedy that ultimately causes him to forget his past, due to her powers taking effect on him.
Following the death of Tomoe, one of the Nura clan members, feeling heavily responsible for Ash's loss and his manipulation under the miserly traitor Russian spec-ops admiral, recruits Shishio Makoto to replace him as an assassin, and reassigns him as a guerrilla soldier protecting the citizens. After the end of the war, Satoshi leaves the Spec-ops ranks, his new conscious resolving him to protect those unfortunate without the need for death and bloodshed. A famed swordsmith of the Russian spec-ops and acquaintance of the "Demon Eyes," realizing the change that the turbulent era brought on to his friend, the new perspective that he now has resolved to keep, and concerned how his friend would carry his journey without the need for self defense and necessary force to carry out his ideals against the wayward, issues him the challenge to uphold his new found path and tosses him the first of his signature weapon into the future, the Nebula Blade, marking Ash's end as "Demon Eyes Satoshi."
After finishing his job as the murderer "Demon Eyes Satoshi" in the Russian military, Ash assumes the life of a wanderer, keeping his promise to protect every individual from danger without harming others through pacifist means, and through the use of the Requip's powerful techniques and true principles of the art.
One years later, he arrives in Iron Fist, where he meets William Carter. He invites him to stay in her home even after he discovers that Ash is the "Demon Eyes Satoshi". During his residence, Ash establishes lifelong relationships with many people, and changes the lives of many who he has met; even if his reputation of a notorious assassin in the day of the war and the animosity of those begrudged who have survived its bloody days come to haunt him, his change as a person has even lead ex-enemies, such as the former Yaminobu member Saitō Hajime, to come to peaceful terms with him, before the day he left the island. With the many friends he has come to make, many of their experiences come to take them on adventures in Iron Fist Academy and the events they come to impact on both them, and the world to come.
Although he has kept his promise and fulfills his duty as a swordsman of peace, many of his inner scars still come to haunt him, from his repressed murderous personality coming out in times of heavy conflict, to the heavy trauma and unremedied pain that keeps him distant from even his closest friends, and fearful of the consequences his past reemerges should they be dragged into them.
