At comic con conventions around the country many people dress up as their favorite Science Fiction, Super Hero, Movie, or TV character. Lately people have been calling those cosplay outfits. The same characters listed above have been also showing up at Anime / Cosplay conventions.

I wore my Original Star Trek series outfit to my first Anime / Cosplay convention back in 2009. I knew that the con was an Anime / Cosplay con so I wasn't sure what people would think of a Comic Con outfit being worn at it. I wore the outfit at Youmacon 2009 just a few months after the new Star Trek movie came out that year. I was surprised at the con because everyone wanted to take my photo. I couldn't walk a few steps and not hear someone shouting out, "Wait, I gotta take a photo of you". The amount of attention that I got that day made me want to go to more Anime / Cosplay conventions. For decades I had only gone to Science Fiction cons so now I had two types of cons to go to. smile

I'm curious about your Nerd / Geek cosplay or outfit wearing stories. It doesn't mater what type of convention. I just want to see stories of what different people thought of and reacted to your Nerd / Geek type outfits.

Well honestly most anime cons don't care what you wear!
I've been more inclined to wear 'cosplay' of video game characters rather than anime characters.
I also see loads of other outfits being worn, despite their lack of relevance to "anime".
I've been going to one con in particular for about 5 years and all the people are very welcoming and open to anything!
I've also been to a small scale comic-con and merely wore a lolita outfit and got lots of "Can I take your picture??"s and "Aw you look so cool!" even though I wasn't wearing what everyone else was wearing.

When I started to cosplay back in 2009 the Anime / Cosplay cons that I went to their was mostly Anime & video game characters like from Final Fantasy. At first I felt out of place because I saw mostly anime series characters around me. I do agree that what ever people wore at that time was easily accepted by all which I thought was amazing and comforting. In the last two years the Anime / Cosplay cons have simply turned into cosplay cons with cosplayers from TV shows, Movies, DC & Marvel characters, Disney, video games, and certainly Anime characters. It's such a variety now that I don't know who I'm going to come across next. smile Their are some cons that focus mainly on Anime and Video Game cosplayers but they are getting harder to find. The cons are a lot more exciting now because of the larger variety of characters that are being cosplayed. smile
