((Only Songjewel and Owle may post here))

The waning light stole across Songjewel's desk, filtering through sheer solid blinds. Next to the window, a cherry bookcase glistened through the dust motes. Besides the sunlight, the office was lit by muted lamps. Two chairs sat in front of a desk, facing the much cushier-looking desk chair Songjewel used. On her desk lay three file folders, each with a paper clip sticking out of the top.

Song held the door open for Sherrinda.

"Please, have a seat. Natasha says here that you can't speak, so I'll try to keep the questions to a minimum, okay? "

Song herself slipped around the desk to her own chair, resting her bum firmly in its soft seat. She handed Sherrinda a clean piece of paper and a pencil.

"Okay, why don't we start with you telling...or...well, try the best you can...showing me why you want to adopt a plant. A lot of people would prefer a pet to be something they could interact with."

Sherrinda lifted her hands up to start gesturing...then decided the paper and pencil were probably a better idea. There was a look of fierce concentration on her face as she began to draw...

*scribble scribble scribble*

When she was done, she handed the bit of paper back to Songjewel, and nodded satisfactorily.

Song stared at the paper in her hand. Then she started to chuckle a little.

"Does this mean you want to take care of a plant because it won't remind you of a deceased pet?" Something about the idea struck her as funny. All of the other parents had come up with answers so drastically different from this one. Of course, Sherrinda couldn't speak, so that might not be the whole story. But Song considered it as good an answer as any.

Sherrinda nodded eagerly, head bobbing quickly up and down, a smile on her face. Anything furry that walked on four legs reminded her of poor Mr. Tibbles, who she'd had since she was a little girl, getting killed by those icky, icky paladins. And that was not a pleasant memory, one she was actively trying to leave behind her.

"Okay, okay," Song shook her head to compose herself. "It looks like this plant will be a good one for you. This little plant doesn't look anything like a cat. And it has certain...medicinal properties. You might have heard of it before...It's common name is Peyote. It's a little button cactus."

Song picked up a file off her desk and handed it to Sherrinda.

"A lot of that you won't be able to read, but you are welcome to get Natasha to read it to you. That girl doesn't have nearly enough to do." Song winked at Sherrinda as she said this, making it clear she was just picking on the secretary. "However, there is a picture clipped to the inside, so take a look. How do you like it?"

Sherrinda grinned at the wink. She was glad the plant wouldn't look like a cat; though she didn't think there were many plants that looked like cats, it was especially good to be sure she was getting one that didn't.

The hedge witch opened up the file, and took a look at the picture inside. Oh...that plant. That was one of the best ones; her teacher had always told her it had a lot of magical properties, and occasionally used it in potions and other small ceremonies. Strong magic...that was perfect!

Sherrinda looked up from the file and grinned again, then clapped her hands together as if applauding Songjewel for doing such a great job.

Song nodded, a smile lighting up her face. "Good, I'm glad you approve. Now, one last thing. You can't write, but you seem to be pretty god at drawing. So here."

Song produced a little leather-bound book from the bottom shelf of her bookcase. It was the typical journal that she gave to all new parents, except for one feature: The pages were completely blank. They lacked the lines that the journals on the middle shelf held.

"This book is for you to keep track of your feelings or things that happen. It goes with Peyote, and is your to keep as long as you are taking care of your plant. You don't have to write anything if you don't want to; this is just a good place for you to keep everything together."

Sherrinda nodded, and accepted the book with both hands, bowing her head in thanks. This would be much easier to keep together than individual pieces of paper...

"Alright Sherrinda, I think we're done here...are you ready to go meet Peyote?" Song slid out from behind her desk and cracked the door open.

"To be honest, the meetings are my favorite part. I love to see new parents looking at the plant they have to care for."

Sherrinda nodded, that grin once again splitting her face. She tucked the journal away in one of her many pouches, then stood up, practically bouncing out of the chair to follow Songjewel.
