 Well, this was a pig's breakfast, to be sure.
He should have known better; he had known better. Eleven years of experience should have been enough to keep him out of trouble, but here he was, gimping his way north and away from the fires with a black and red burn all along his left foreleg, from the wrist up to a wide, sweeping L on the meat of his shoulder. As it turned out, Jonsi was not an excellent navigator through fire.
It was a serious wound. He stopped often to tenderly dab it clean with a tongue dry and rimed with ash, but he knew that without a healer he would be permanently lamed; without a source of food and water, he would sicken and die. An inglorious ending to what he felt was a rather dashing and adventurous life...what a pity that he couldn't revise the ending to something more spectacular. Grimacing, he continued his hobbled walk, sliding gracelessly down the face of a hill with his skinny tail flagging out for balance.

 Lutherford was alone and it honestly wasn't so bad, he could never understand when another wolf would complain about it. If you were strong enough and independent enough you would be able to take care of yourself, at least that's what he's based his whole life believing. But that isn't to say what happen wasn't terribly traumatizing, he had lost track of his family, his pack, his home.
The young wolf continued to remind himself again and again that he had done what he could, he had saved his role model, his pack's Beta. Everything he had done that day had been for everyone in the pack.
Huffing Lutherford rolled his eyes, of course it wasn't just for his pack was he reduced to lying to himself? He had slipped up in hopes of being separated, in hopes of running into her again. Shaking his head Lutherford pushed the distracting thoughts aside, he needed to focus on his location and his goals.
First, find food. Second, find family. Third, find mysterious female that pledged his every thought.
Frowning Lutherford slowed to a brisk pace, his ears twitched and he held his breath for a moment before sniffing the air. The wolf wasn't his family but it was worth a shot.

While not exactly actively searching out other wolves, the raggedy old male was certainly not trying to disguise his presence. Having completed his downhill slide, Jonsi hobbled onward, consoling himself aloud that at least he had reached a place past the fires' reach. Aloud, he said at least the weather was sunny and fine aside from the cloud of ash that still fogged the sky. At least the fires hadn't marred his beautiful face!
Cackling, the spotted wolf made for a break in the trees, used his hunger to motivate his pace to quicken. If all else failed, he could eat bark like a winter deer, or perhaps sweet-talk a particularly stupid squirrel into his mouth. The situation was grim, but no use being grim about it.

Slowly following after the others scent Lutherford wanted to make sure he wasn’t going to cause any unnecessary drama by startling the unknown wolf. He could feel his stomach clench and unclench; it had been a while since he had last had something to eat and these new grounds were quite different then his old ones. Lutherford had always made it his priority to provide for the others that needed it before him, generally the pups it wasn’t very often that his Beta needed help in any way.
His thoughts shifted to his Beta and their last encounter, she had risked her life for their Alpha’s pups and he still had growing to do before he had taken it upon himself to save her. Were they alive? Was anyone from his pack alive?
Would she be alive?
Lutherford shook his head pushing those thoughts away and losing track of his pacing nearly running smack dab into the wolf he had been following.
