I went to make a bowl of Boo Berry this morning

Did you taste it to make sure? I've had milk that was 3-4 days past its sell by date and it tasted just fine.

It was expired almost a week (5 days I think) and when I went to sniff it, it smelled like there was a colony forming, and while I was dumping it out, there were some... chunks that also came out

My SIL likes to try to toss the milk out the day after "expires". We've tried to explain that the date on the carton is a "sell by date" which is different than an expiration date.

I never trust milk that's beyond its expiration date. I'd rather toss some perfectly good milk than risk a mouthful of spoiled milk.

That said, it seems like the expiration dates for lactose-free milks are higher. I wonder if that means that milk spoils faster because bacteria gotta get that lactose? However, I'm not sure how much more expensive it is so I dunno if it's a helpful observation.

Long story short, I hope it helps you to know that I'd rather spit out a mouthful of spoiled milk than... whatever was wrong with those frozen chicken tenders. It was like putting rubber cement in my mouth, only worse.
