Welcome to Trinity, the parallel dimension which Nel and Leia call home. In a setting that could be considered 'steampunk,' the people of Trinity live in a world of floating cities, airships, steam trains and simple automobiles, but where magic is considered to be not much more than a myth, a 'load of baloney' so to speak.
Nel and Leia live in a town-house on the outskirts of Foalsview, a small city situated at the base of a mountain - where the siblings have their otherworld portal hidden. Their house is in a general state of disarray, but not necessarily messy. The basement - which function's as Nel's workshop - however, is incredibly messy. Out the back is a sizable tea-garden, which is Leia's secret pride and joy and her favorite place to spend her time.

Leia, leading the way as quickly as possible to the office where she could pay, suddenly stopped short at Zephyr’s words. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath before turning on a heel and fixing him with a glare. From this position, she stared at him in silence for several moments before growling softly, ”Do not dare to think that I am the same as the filthy humans you’ve met. If I thought myself controlled by such superfluous things, I would not be buying you. If that is what you would prefer, please, do say so. I can happily turn around and return you to that room.” That said, she quickly returned to her previous heading and, with a hard jerk on the leash, continued walking, much quicker this time, as though she no longer cared if Zephyr was able to keep up. As they approached the doors to the offer she once again spoke, this time without looking at him. ”I have a name for a reason, but if you want to call me ‘my lady’ or something of the like, I suppose I might as well not reject.” Although she acted as though she could care less about fancy titles or honorifics, in truth it had been a very long time since she had been referred to in such polite terms by those unrelated to her who knew her true nature, and while she would not force Zephyr to call her as such, if he chose to, she couldn’t deny that it would feel nice.
Once they were all seated in the car, Nel (who had not been able to find what he was looking for and had given up for the time being) started the engine and took off. Their heading took them out of the city, onto a dirt road, and into lands where civilization had barely made its mark. Throughout the long drive, Nel kept up his constant attempts to fuel some conversation in the car, attempts which Leia ignored, choosing instead to stare out the window waiting for their destination come into view as she kept a firm grip on the leash in her hand. So dedicated was she to her current decision to ignore the other people in the car that it didn’t even register whether Zephyr chose to appease her brother or simply let him essentially talk to himself for the entirety of the drive.
Finally however, they pulled into the hidden cave where Nel kept his device hidden and the blond perked up. Cutting off his attempts at idle conversation, he turned to look at the two in the backseat and grinned. ”Welcome to the world portal!” he intoned, gesturing proudly at the giant gate in front of the car, ”I built this a while ago! It’s how we’re going to be getting home!” Hopping out of the car for a moment, he walked over the control panel and began pushing buttons and turning dials. Finally, after triple-checking the settings, Nel pushed a button and strode back over to the car, hopping back in just as the gates finished swinging open, revealing a wavy picture a mountain-side view, as if it were a reflection in a slow-moving river. Starting up the engine once again, Nel drove through.
As soon as they came out on the other side, Leia brightened up considerably.
Stopping the car momentarily, Nel changed some of the settings on the console on this side, and then locked the place up before driving them out onto a road that led down the side of a mountain.
After their descent down the side of Mt. Gal, the party arrived in Foalsview. Skirting the edges of the city center, they finally pulled onto Greenstring lane, a street lined on both sides by large townhouses. Finding unit #D2691E3, Nel pulled into the driveway and parked. ”Welcome home!” he announced, obviously excited. Turning to his sister, he jangled the keys and smiled. ”I’m going to leave you to show the place to our new roommate. Counsellor Parks has been pressuring me for that prototype for ages, and if I want to get it finished without him getting too mad at me, I’m going to have to be spending every waking hour on it!” Leia nodded once and watched as her brother unlocked the door and ran off into the house before stepping over the threshold and taking her boots off.
”Welcome and all that I guess,” she grumbled, more to appease her brother in case he was in ear shot than anything, ”Go explore all you want, choose one of the rooms on the top floor. The other two are locked, so don’t even bother trying to go inside.”
With a wave, she walked off into the house, leaving Zephyr on his own as she exited into the garden at the back, stripping off her stocking and walking barefoot across the grass to the gazebo.

In the end,as you fade into the night, Who will tell the story of your life? Zephyr raised an eyebrow as she spun around and responded to his half-sarcastic question. So basically what he got from her, including her body language and tone, was "Yes I want you to call me respectful terms but I'm gonna be all passive-aggressive about it so I don't seem dependent on it." And honestly, she didn't seem dependent on it, though he supposed the passiveness towards asserting her authority was more out of genuine indifference than trying to keep up her image or something. Oh well, he decided, might as well try to score some brownie points with her if it means making his life a little less of a living hell as it was probably about to become. Of course...stoking her ego may make her come down harder on him, especially since she already sees him as a lesser being...he supposed only time would tell, and bowed lightly to Leia. "Yes....Milady."
They all piled into the car, and things were....well, quiet for a bit. The boy tried to make conversation, and Zephyr humored him, giving him an ear every now and then and returning questions half-heartedly with a "Mhm" or "Mmm-mm." Most of his attention was focused out the window as they moved along the road, further and further from the slave shop, and any chance of getting back, even if Zephyr wanted to get back any more. He'd more or less commited to this life now, he supposed. Not that there would be much waiting for him if he didn't. The PLEA had forgotten him by now, time to leave them behind, let their bygones be their own bygones. They could handle themselves, right?
"Huh." Zephyr said at the portal device. He'd heard of such things before, but he'd never expected to see one. Mainly because they were so very much illegal by PLEA laws. But hey, not his bag any more. He rolled down the window slightly, and removed his PLEA badge from his pocket, chucking it out the window just before they passed through. A kind of...final declaration to Leia he supposed. No sense hanging onto a dead dream, no? He also noted her brightening up, and decided thelady did have emotions, and she was happier on her own turf. And who wasn't? Zeph certainly felt far from home now...but then again one could argue his home was here.
Zephyr took note of the half-assed welcome home from his owner, and shrugged, simply nodding again. "Of course, Milady." He said as she left, before turning and looking around. Nice place, he surmised. Seen some years, but it was in better condition than he assumed. He made his way leisurely up the stairs to the top rooms, an claimed one for himself, flopping onto the bed and looking up at the ceiling. "Home sweet bloody home..." He mused aloud, sitting up and, as he had done at the shop, contemplating the wallpaper. A better shade than the one in the shop, he finally concluded, before flopping over again and drifting to sleep. And who will remember your last goodbye? Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid,I'm not afraid to die.

It was several hours before anything really happened in the house. Until the sun started to set, only the sound of Nel’s tinkering emanating form the basement had provided any sort of major noise; Leia was too deep in her meditating to bother dealing with anything that went on, and she wasn’t worried about Zephyr leaving the house or something. Of course, technically speaking, he could there was nothing truly stopping him from opening the door and leaving, but she knew he’d never be able to activate Nel’s portal (she didn’t even understand it herself), and she didn’t think he was stupid enough to go into the street and start telling people that he had been enslaved against his will or something. She had yet to mention it, but slavery was legal in Dreantin, the country Foalsview was located in. And while it may not have been as common in Foalsview as it was in other parts of the country, people here knew to avoid run-away slaves. You did not want to be caught helping a slave escape, mostly because their owner was almost certain to be richer than you, especially if they were one of the city/country’s elite.
But such things were not on her mind as she rested in the garden, allowing the subtle magic of nature – at least what was left of it – to flow over and through her, revitalizing herself after the trip to another universe. She hoped she wouldn’t have to do that again.
Eventually, the sounds from the basement stopped and were shortly replaced by the smells of chicken cooking that floated through the house. It was about an hour between this point and when the ringing of a bell echoed through the house and garden.
Hearing the sound from her position in the gazebo, Leia sighed and rose to her feet. She had lost track of time again. And while she knew that was half the point of her meditation sessions, other than being calming, she still got slightly upset with herself when it happened. If she was capable of lose track of time, then what would happen if she were to be caught unawares? Given that she and her brother were far less likely to be discovered as non-human than in the past, that really wasn’t something that might imminently happen, but Leia still worried about it all the same. She did not want the past to repeat itself. It had not been pretty.
Momentarily forgetting that there was now another guest in their house, Leia left her stocking off as she re-entered the house, staring at Nel, who had set the table for three, from the door. ”You didn’t invite one of your stupid inventor friends over, did you?” she accused, her voice incredulous. Nel blinked in surprise and hurt as he tilted his head at her. Popping back into the Kitchen, he emerged with a covered dish. ”What are you talking about Leia? Your companion lives with us now! That lovely boy, what’s his name?” He asked, setting the dish in the center of the dining room table and disappearing into the kitchen again.
Right ”Zephyr.” she reminded her brother and herself as she settled into the chair at the head of the table.
Bringing the last meal dish out to the table – some mashed potatoes – Nel nodded. ”Where is he anyways?” he asked, taking the seat to her left and looking expectably between the back door an d the door to the kitchen. ”You didn’t disappear off to the gardens as soon as you arrived did you?” When Leia offered no answer, Nel gasped. ”You did, didn’t you!” he accused, ”I don’t understand why you can’t at least be a bit civil with humans!”
”Because they are stupid, selfish and abusive.” Leia responded in monotone, ”We’ve had this conversation.”
Sighing, Nel cast a glance at the collection of scars visible on her exposed legs and then slid out of his chair. Arriving at the base of the stairs, he called up. ”Zephyr! You should come join us for supper!” Before moving to wait with his sister for their new housemate to join them.

In the end,as you fade into the night, Who will tell the story of your life? Zephyr wasn't sure just how long he had been asleep but it couldn't have been more than an hour. He sat up, sighing and yawning, making some stretches and wincing at the various cracks and pops his body made. Ugh...he supposed the bed was comfy enough...he was just..incredibly stiff from that damned car ride. He never really fully appreciated cars. When he grew up in that human city he'd dodged them more than he had ridden them. If he wanted to get somewhere, it'd be close by, else he'd be walking all day.
After a moment of stretching, he reached into his pocket, pulling out a cig....only to find he was running low. s**t, he thought. Maybe he could bum Little Miss Perfect into getting him some..or something. He'd need his nicotine fix, health be damned. And hey, if it killed him, least he'd be free of this hellhole. Speaking of hellholes...
He looked out his window, trying to see just where he was. And...he didn't know. It was a city...he thought. More a small town, near a mountain...looked like he was in some sort of town house, just one among many. He considered his options for escape here, but decided against. If the portal was any clue, getting home was no longer possible...this was his home now, he supposed. Better than the slave mansion at any rate. Still a hellhole. Especially without his nicotine fix.
The call for supper riled him from his pondering, and he shrugged and turned, then paused as he looked in the mirror. He was still in his normal getup, a worn, almost threadbare grey jacket over a black tank top, with grey cargo pants covering worn, well used boots. Not exactly classy but ******** it, he wasn't going to dress up, even for this woman. She didn't own him, even if she bought him.
He turned, his confidence somewhat better, and went down the steps, following the boy's voice into the dining room. Zephyr strode in, cig still in his mouth as stopped short of sitting, seeing the others were not yet, but waiting for him. "You waited just for me? I'm flattered, really." He said in his half-sarcastic way, though he gave an acknowledging nod to the both of them, before taking out his cig and snuffing it out on the palm of his gloved hand, then tossing it into a nearby bin. "S'pose I wait for you two to sit first...you're my hosts after all." He notable avoided the word "owners." No way he'd give her that satisfaction. And who will remember your last goodbye?
