Pack Slaves Nearly every slave is the descendant of a prisoner of war or a captured outsider. These are known as "pack slaves." The Timekeepers and Sunlords have an unspoken agreement these wolves are not to be considered part of either pack, even if they are the relatives of former Sunlord wolves.
Timekeeper pups are taught from the start that these wolves are not their equals, barely wolves at all, and their ancestors were too weak to win their battles and too cowardly to die (in the case of PoW descendants) or that they invaded their lands to try and steal from them (in the case of outsiders and outsider descendants). All but the most empathetic souls view them like a human would their furniture or as simply part of the scenery, not as something with feelings and dreams; therefore, it is not so much a wolf rejects the idea of feeling sorry for them as that they are never taught it to begin with.
Pack slaves are not treated or fed well and often die prematurely from sickness, malnutrition, and suicide. Many aspire to become servants, seeing this as their only way to a better life.
Wardens will sometimes host fights between slaves for the sake of entertainment, occasionally to the death. Many slaves willingly take part in these barbaric rituals as winners are rewarded with extra food, water, and other luxuries. Servants Servants are personally owned slaves under the command of either a family or one specific wolf. Many are treated kindly, even like a member of the family themselves, while others live through a hell worse than that of pack slaves as there is no one to help shoulder the burden of an angry Timekeeper's wrath.
Servants are acquired by a "real" member beseeching permission from a Warden to pick one out from the pack slaves, being gifted one by the Time Keeper, or inherited through a relative's death or through marriage.
Usually, the biggest threat to a servants well-being is an honor fight. Honor fights are when a personally owned slaved is ordered to fight to the death for their master. Victory is decided by whose slave is is still standing in the end. This is a rare occurrence that tends to draw a crowd and provide gossip fodder for days to come. This is used only to settle personal (and often petty) matters like love triangles, claiming living areas, etc. (For things like maiming and murder, see the "Crimes/Laws" post.)
Servants are also sometimes permitted to breed with their masters, where as pack slaves are not allowed to breed with anyone. In the event this happens, it is referred to as "arranged mates."
In these instances, many of their "masters" do sincerely love and are sincerely loved by their new mates from the start or forge a mutual bond over time (sometimes genuine, sometimes akin to Stolkholm syndrome). Furthermore, they are usually not forced into honor fights.
Yet arranged mates are denied basic rights provided to other pack members same as any other servant. They are not permitted to leave their mate, commit acts of infidelity, practice religion or learn certain languages unless given permission by their spouse / owner. If she is beaten for her wrongdoings, this is usually overlooked. If she is killed in response to disobedience, there are no laws in place to punish her spouse.
If a wolf sires pups with an arranged mate servant, he has three options:
1 - Declare the pups are slaves like their mother and keep them for himself, forcing them to work or fight on his behalf.
2 - Declare the pups are slaves like their mother and give them away to new owners as gifts or for favors. Alternatively, he may send them away to live among pack slaves.
3 - Claim them as his own and request from the Time Keeper that he permit them to be full-fledged members, using his own status as leverage. (Note this is not always guaranteed to work and a member's reputation can take a hit for trying to claim slave pups.) Can slaves be freed or escape? Important to note OOC is that the goal of the Timekeepers' captives is not to have them all freed. If a rebellion occurs organically overtime, this is another matter, but people should not be submitting their wolves for slave/servant ranks with sole intent being to have them escape or be freed.
If you're looking for a pack where your downtrodden wolf is guaranteed to rise against the odds, there are many others who are able to offer this kind of plot on a reoccurring basis. Within the Timekeepers, these wolves should be the exception, not the rule.
That being said:
Tolas knows about the Timekeepers despite them being a closed society. It stands to reason this is due at least in part to escaped slaves having told their stories to outsiders (as rare as escaped slaves are, they are still more common than Timekeepers who have abandoned their home). Situations where slaves escape, either on their own or with an accomplice (a Warden looking the other way intentionally, for example) have happened.
Slaves being freed is also possible and there are known cases of this even today. There is no official requirements a wolf must meet from an IC prospective. It's not a matter of clocking x amount of hours or kissing a certain amount of tail.
Wolves are typically freed or escape using the following methods:
1. Being the offspring of an arranged mate servant x member pairing and having the father (or rarely, the member mother) claim them as their flesh and blood. (Freedom; Most Common)
2. Wooing a Warden and getting them to permit you to escape even at risk of their own reputation and possibly their safety. (Escaping; Extremely Rare)
3. Being discovered as a seer or a shaman, which will immediately free a wolf and force them to the seer/shaman rank whether they like it or not. (Freedom; Rare)
4. Being able to speak Yakoshi or another unfamiliar language fluently might land a wolf a job as a translator. (Freedom; Extremely Rare)
5. Rescuing a Time Keeper, Warden, Warlord, or perhaps even a civilian might mean a wolf is rewarded with freedom. (Freedom; Rare)

Akiyo is a slave currently.
I plan on him being a servant. Since I want him to have puppies, the Master he needs is someone who is female and single. Markings are preferred, but I'm okay with plain.
His native tongue is Yakoshi, so if you want him to eventually be freed, let me know. For now, ssh! He's keeping it a secret, and only speaking in Telkish.
Akiyo is a very gentle wolf. But don't think he can't fight or be dominate. He used to be an alpha.

 This is Thirteen! She was born into slavery, and I don't have any plans on her escaping, well, ever. Let's just say she isn't a very nice lady, and wouldn't function very well in a non-violent society. Her name was given to her by a warden when she was a teen, when she won thirteen fights in a row. Her name before that doesn't matter to her, and she'll tell you that her entire life didn't matter until she "earned" that name. I would like for her to become a servant, and I think Hope said something about one of the wardens maybe becoming involved in that way? She could be a sort of "prize fighter"-type servant. I don't plan on breeding her since I don't really think it fits her personality/character.
Omfg Midori if I get my hands on a pretty fem, I'm totally interested. Until then, good luck! He is quiet a beaut...

Just to note, pregnant slave fights are very unlikely. Remember the Timekeepers only have a limited number of slaves. Combined with the fact slave fights are technically illegal (and indeed there are those who are opposed to them all together, though they are outnumbered by pro-fighters or those of neutral opinion), for any one warden (or group of wardens) to be smiting slaves left and right (through means of fights or otherwise) would pose a huge issue for their reputation, especially as wardens can be and have been demoted for getting too power hungry and acting too brutish.
The slaves primary purpose is to do work that "real" members do not want to do. For example, cleaning up bodily waste. Since they don't have toilets, someone has to move those gross piles out of dodge. Slave fights are not an everyday occurrence by any means. If all the slaves are killed through fighting (especially ones who are pregnant and will provide more slaves), there's no one left to do that.
On a personal note, I now have a Warden, Rayner, who is open to plotting with any slaves. He's a prime example of what is mentioned above, as he was almost demoted because he got too big for his britches and started taking his anger out on slaves / having them fight too often / causing too many causalities.
He's middle-aged (seven, to be precise), so he's been around for a bit and so no doubt can have some semblance of familiarity with any given slave. I should note it's highly unlikely for him to take on any personal servants, however. Anyone can feel free to PM me about RP with him for slave stuff. emotion_bigheart

I've got this lovely gal here, Verdandi, that I would like to toss into the Timekeepers as a personal slave, if there is anyone looking! Figured I might as well post her here for anyone to see! She's a timid and quiet thing, a little on the small side, but a hard worker. I'm thinking she may have been born from another slave or traded to the Timekeepers. Am open to plots with that! Just quote me or PM me if you are interested in having Verdandi be a personal slave to your wolf! Also, I feel I should note that said wolf can be male or female!
