On a day much like any other day, the golden-hued vixen had decided to pay the bakery a casual visit. Merengue's sweets always cheered the female up when down - And today was one of those down days. After being left alone to practice her music; Melody had found herself deep in thought. Thoughts about her family, friends and so on had rushed to her mind. Thoughts about how happy they all were with their loved ones... And how lonely she was.
No, no. Shake that away no - A shake of her head was given. If she began to think of such thoughts all over again, then the whole purpose of leaving her practice time would be for not. "I'll simply wind-down with a few sweets, exercise the calories off and I'll be good to go!" She cheerily mused aloud to herself as she made her way into the bakery; a smile upon her face.
Her delicate nose was instantly attacked by the smells of the bakery's sweets. "Mmmmm~ I'll never get tired of this smell."

Hard at work in the kitchen area that was tucked away behind a half wall -- mostly because she just enjoyed interacting with her customers far too much while working -- Merengue was putting the finishing touches on a wedding cake order that had to be delivered the next day. “Filigree, check! All that left is a few edible pearls up around the top layer....” she said to herself, tongue now sticking out and curled up as she concentrated on where the pearls were being placed.
then came the familiar sound of the bell hanging above the door ringing, letting her know that someone had come in, in search of something yummy. “Hello, hello!” the rhino chimed, eyes not lifting from her work just yet. “I will be right with you! I’m just... about... done! THERE!” she exclaimed happily. Everything was in place! Now all that was left was the couple to come in and see the finished cake before their day.
With a big smile in place on her face, Merengue wipes her hooves off on her apron as she turned about to go out to the counter and help her customer. “Welcome to Life is a Piece of Cake! How can I... Oh! Melody! Hello there! And what can I get you today?~”

The smile was returned to Merengue as Melody nodded in greeting. "Oh, just the usual cinnamon rolls, please. With extra icing." Melody had grown to love the cinnamon rolls here. Though perhaps she should try something different sometime.
Sometime. But for now her usual would do.
Silvery-blank hues soon landed on the cake Merengue had been working on prior to the vixens arrival. Such a lovely cake it was indeed! Who knew food making could be such an admirable art? "That's certainly a lovely cake you've prepared. What's the occasion?" Surely such an extravagant cake had a special purpose in it's 'life'.

“I should have guessed that would be what you wanted! They’re your usual after all~” Beaming most happily, the rhino made her way down the counter, finding where her freshly made cinnamon rolls from this morning were resting in the display case. “How many did you want today, hun? And did you want the extra icing on top, or in a little container?” She figured she’d ask.... mostly because she couldn’t quite remember how she prefered the extra icing. She’d had a very busy past few days!
Brows raising slightly as the little fox seemed in her own world, Merengue smiled as her hard work was being admired. “Oh! Do you like it? It’s a wedding cake I’ve been working on the past couple... err.. few days! The couple will be in shortly to see the finished product before tomorrow. It’s their big day tomorrow and I want to make sure they’re thrilled with the end result~”
With expert movements, she snitched up a few cinnamon rolls, placing them carefully in a clear box with her logo scrawled on top. “You know... I may just join you in having one of these. I haven’t eaten yet, today.” she said, laughing at herself for forgetting to eat again!

Her delicate smile about faltered. 'Wedding' - Oh... How nice it must be to be getting married. How nice it must be to have someone you could wake up to and call your own. To love, to hold. To share special moments with day in and day out. "I'm sure they'll love it, Merengue. You did a terrific job on it!" Melody praised the other with her smile still held firmly on her muzzle. Though on the inside she could feel herself screaming just a bit. Her heart withered a bit as the loneliness crept back up to her.
NO!
She had ventured here to feel better - Not worse. "You're more than welcome to join me. I wouldn't mind, I love having company. And you certainly need to eat! It's not healthy to go without eating."

“That’s right! Thank you, darling~ Forgive me for not remembering. It’s been a long past couple days for me.” Holding the box, she went behind the counter quickly to get at her freshly made frostings she made this morning with that buns. As she lifted her head to say something, Merengue noticed the smile on the other female wavering. ‘What was that about?’ she wondered to herself before coming back around, closing the top of the box.
Even as the other offered her such wonderful praise, the rhino couldn’t help feeling like something was off. All the same, she graciously accepted the compliment. “Thank you, darling. It was hard work, as all personal orders are, but it’s a labor of love and I’m glad to be able to make such things for others. Especially for days that mean so much to them!”
Smiling all the more, she passed the box across the countertop before leaning over and smirking. “Yeah.. I know. I swear I’d forget my head most days were it not attached! I tell you what. The buns are on the house today, plus I’ll throw in another just for keeping me company while I catch up on eating.” Sliding off to the side, she grabbed up a paper plate, plopping a couple cinnamon buns on it before snatching up a small container of icing. “Grab a seat at the table with me, kay?~” she said, coming around the other side, setting the plate down on the small two-seater table by the window before climbing up into the chair. “C’mon! Let’s eat.. my stomach is going to start devouring me from the inside out!”

On the house? Oh -! "Ah, are you sure? That's awfully kind of you, Merengue." Though she'd feel bad if this snack was completely free. Maybe she'd find some way to 'accidentally' leave some money behind.
Melody wasted no time in joining the other; grabbing her box of cinnamon rolls as she moved along to sit with the other. Taking the free seat across from Merengue, Melody quickly adverted her gaze outside the window they were seated next to. "It's a lovely day, isn't it?"

Smiling from the seat she took over by the window, she simply nodded to the vixen. “I wouldn’t say such a thing if it wasn’t okay. Just don’t tell anyone else, kay? You’re my favorite regular, so I’m more than happy to make an exception for you~” and Merengue gave a wink, still just smiling away.
As the other female took the spot across from her, the rhino wasted no time grabbing up one of the two buns from the plate, peeling the outer part off and nibbling on it. Cinnamon buns were fun to eat. Unraveling them was half the fun of them! And as she nommed on her treat, she tilted her head, watching Melody, wondering what was on her mind. She seemed... different. Off.
“It is beautiful today. The weather isn’t too hot. Isn’t too cool. There’s not a cloud in the sky! I really hope this weather holds out for tomorrow. My customers’ that are coming in are having their wedding outside. As long as the weather holds up... No, no matter what the weather does, it’ll be a beautiful occasion for them.” And there she went, off in her own little lala land of wondering what the wedding would be like. How the bride would look in her dress. How the newly wed couple would take to cutting their cake and if they would smoosh it in each other’s faces! Oh the many wondrous thoughts and joys of a wedding!

This would be their little secret, yes it would. The whole 'on the house' thing that is. "Don't worry, my lips are sealed." Melody reassured the other, small smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
'Favorite regular'?
Well she felt... Honored to hear that. And special. Very special. The smile grew wider as a warm feeling filled her heart for a moment. "I like days like these." She said in an absent-minded manner; attention turning back to Merengue.
Though her smile did not last long, unfortunately. Once the happy soon-to-be-married couple was brought up the loneliness stung her heart once more. "O-oh, yes. It would be a shame if it rained or even snowed. It would possibly ruin the cake! A-and... The bride's beautiful dress. And... Yeah." Sigh.
Melody looked down to her box of cinnamon rolls as she idly fiddled with the corners of the box. "I only wish the brightest of days for them tomorrow." She murmured sadly before opening her box.

There was so much that she wanted to say as she sat there, watching at Melody fought her emotions. It was hard for the rhino to pinpoint what was troubling her dear customer so much, but she hated seeing her feel so upset. Flicking her ears back, Merengue leaned over the table some, of course she was a bit stickied up from the cinnamon buns, but all the same, she gently rested her hooves on the vixen’s arm. “What’s troubling you so much, dear? You seem like you’re not exactly you today. Is there anything I can help with?”

Oh, no... Oh no oh no oh no! Keep cool, keep calm --
"I-i I'm fine... Perfectly... F-fine." And of course she faltered and ultimately broke. Tears soon broke free from her sockets. Like a hard rain falling from the skies.
"S-s -- Sorry I-i--Nn...!!!" She quickly covered her eyes and attempted to calm herself by taking a few deep breaths which failed as tears continued to fall from her eyes.
