WRITING CHALLENGES AND PROMPTS
to help improve writing and creativity and to stop writers block in its tracks

User Image

The best way, I find, to improve writing skills is to practice and write as often as you can. But most of the time I have no idea what to write about or how to start something or simply I don't have the inspiration to continue my already in progress stories which leaves me without being able to practice my skills.

So this dilemma lead me on a search across the interenet, across all the media sites I have - Pintrest, Tumblr, Deviantart, Blogs and many others - and I found a few thirty day challenges, I've listed four below for you all to see.

Challenge One: Self Challenge One

Challenge Three: Prompt Challenge

Challenge Four: Scene Prompt Challenge

But have you ever been stuck on them? Or find yourself looking through the list and dreading a certain day because it is either hard or something you don't wish to write? I know I have.

Among my searching though I found quite a helpful website, much like the one Chromo had found just recently. It's a daily prompt challenge however rather than getting it from the website, it is delivered to your email similar to a newsletter. You are given a prompt such as the one i received today: Write a scene involving ankle socks and an endangered species of frog. What is sent is completely random and you are only required to spend at least ten minutes on the writing piece which for me is about a page or so. So it needn't be long or heavily detailed, it doesn't even need to be an amazing idea.

This website is more than just prompts though, which is what separates it from the rest. She has 'letters' that contain interesting information for writers, Spotlights on authors and tips and tricks which are well worth reading. Also she has a section titled: "Free Resources" where you can find the daily prompts subscription mentioned above and also a downloadable book outlining the most common mistakes writers make and how to avoid them, another worth reading.

I hope this helps you all as much as it did me.

Well that's all for now everyone. Be free and write till your hearts content. I wish you all the best of luck with improving your skills!

I'm off to improve mine some more.

Have a great day or night wherever you may be in the world.

Sparrow,

That is a truly amazing list of writing challenges that you either found or came up with. Being a writer I appreciate it. Even though my spelling and grammar is not the best I have a very creative mind. When I was younger I wrote a journal for 10 years straight and it was very helpful. Thanks for sharing these ideas. smile
