She had heard the whispers and the worried murmurs long before Zephyr even made her way to the beach. A monster...something from the deep...a sea god... No one was exactly sure what it was, but when Zephyr approached all she could see was a great large blob that stretched on forever. Though she wasn't aware of what it was exactly, the deceased male sperm whale lay on the beach for all to see.
"I wonder.." Stepping closer, the partially blind lioness gave it a poke before being told to shoo by an older male with a stick up his butt. Huffing she moved away, only to find her mate in the mass of gawkers as well. "What do you think it is? Some kind of God?"
The two were quiet a sight. Compared to most of the Bahari the larger rogue male was different when looking at their smaller stature and his mate, with her Prideland and Firekin genetics, was quite the impressive sight hereself. Still, compared to the whale they might as well have been ants.
He grunted, looking over the murmuring heads that gradually started to filter out. It was good gossip, but it was dead, whatever it was, and dead things didn't hold interest for long.
"Could be." Was all he said before moving around to the side, with Zephyr beside him, to look at the large opaque eye of the creature.

Galjoen was near the opposite end of the beach when he heard about a giant beast that had washed on shore. He was curious - sometimes interesting things washed up, and he wouldn't dare to miss it, so he walked along, taking his time. He doubted it would be gone before he got there - large things tended to stay ashore for a long time.
But if news traveled through the pride in such a way - it could be interesting least. He knew he was getting nearer when he could smell already-rotting flesh.
He frowned, walking ever closer. When he saw it, he nearly reeled in shock - it was far larger than he expected. "By the gods..." he murmured, getting closer.

Koukakala turned his nose away from the stench of the creature, and move to walk away from it when he saw the approaching figure of another pride member. "Excuse me, but you wouldn't happen to know what sort of creature this is, would you?"
He doubted it, as no one yet had answered his question, but it was worth a shot. After staring into the dead eye of the beast he felt a compulsion to know just what had washed onto their shore. Maybe once the scavengers had picked off enough skin and fat the pride could make use of what the bones as structural support?
Zephyr dodged in and took a swipe at the eye, almost immediately disgusted when he paw touched the drying, gooey mass. She waved it around with a loud "Eww!" and stepped away. "Koukakala, how old do you think it was? Kou?"
Looking around she noticed that her mate had walked off and she followed him, noticing the newcomer as well. Hadn't she seen him before? Maybe on a hunt? It was hard to tell. "Pretty big, huh? I think it could eat all of us if it wanted to. You know...when it was alive."

Galjoen turned to the black lion, frowning. "I've never seen anything like it before," he said apologetically. He crinkled his nose and walked a bit closer. It smelled horrid in parts, but he was sure some of it was edible.
"I wonder how it died," he muttered. He didn't see any visible wounds, but the creature was far too large for him to tell properly. "What do you pair think it is?" He asked. It was a curious thing after all! Many things washed up on shore but in all his life, Galjoen had never seen anything like this. Nothing this big at least. Occasionally dead creatures washed ashore, but obviously nothing to this scale.
It would smell for a long time though.

Koukakala shook his head with a sigh and looked back towards the beast. "It's been sort of a mystery to the pride. Some have even called it the God of the Ocean, but I'm not sure what to make of it."
So he sat in the sand and pondered the mammoth sea creature. "I haven't seen fangs, so I don't think it's a predator? I could be wrong, though." He mused aloud.
Zephyr tapped her maw. "I'm not really sure how it died. Maybe it washed up after those big storms we've had? There was a lot of fish on shore one day, so he might have just been caught up in it. Or she, I can't tell." She shrugged. "Oh, I'm Zephyr, by the way, and that's my mate, Koukakala." Just for civilities said, she supposed.
"I'm thinking that maybe it's just a really big fish. We can't tell how big the Ocean is, so whose to say that it didn't just live out there? What do you think?" She asked of the new comer.
Kou wasn't entirely sure what he thought it was, other than a nuisance. How were they supposed to get rid of it...?

Seaki Galjoen frowned. God of the ocean. He couldn't see the thing as a god - but it was so large, that perhaps it could be. He rather agreed with Zephyr instead. "That might be it - the storms could have chased it in." It made sense. There were some really large creatures on the land as well, so it made sense that there was large animals in the sea. But, this was much large than elephants and hippos as well. "Oh, I'm Galjoen," he smiled. He was actually named after a particular fish, though he had taken a fear of the ocean for a time. He could never leave the ocean for long. "I don't think the scavengers will be able to take care of this very quickly," though he could see they were making a valiant effort. Zephyr nodded. It seemed more logical for the creature to be a giant fish that just happened upon shore. Surely they would figure out something to do with it soon- whether that be trying to eat it or getting rid of it entirely. "Galjoen. I haven't seen you around much, but I might have seen you on a hunt. Or at least a sibling? Your pelt color is very familiar."
There were so many lions around these days she had trouble keeping up with them all. It wasn't like the good ol' days where they stuck to one area and never chatted. She much preferred this way better, though.
"No, I think you are right. I say a great many of us are going to have to help dispose of it in some way." Though Koukakala didn't feel up to the task, he knew it would have to be done. He wouldn't so much as try to take a bite of it, but it would have to be gone.
"Any ideas on how to get rid of it?" If they could come up with a plan they might be able to take it to the council. The longer it sat out here in the sun the worse off that smell would get.
