A beautiful, lush forest that connects Nix City to Applegate City. A serene, quiet place, the forest is home to many different kinds of Pokémon such as bug and grass types that love the large trees and tall grass. There are also smaller trees blocking the way here and there, making it impossible to proceed further into the forest without something to cut them down.

Regal Bastionxxxxxxx »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» "The human mind is like a parachute... "On average, Fighting-type Pokémon have the highest physical Attack of all types. The Fighting type also hits five different types for super-effective damage, the most for any type, tied by only the Ground type."
Regal grimaced as he pored over the document on his Pokégear. The trainer was taking the time to study in between bites of his lunch, (egg salad sandwiches), and was concerned about what he saw. It struck the trainer as curious that the gyms specializing in steel and fighting types happened to be neighbors. The ultimate defense followed up by the ultimate offense made for quite the one-two combo. Still, Regal was never one to back down from a challenge. No sense in starting now.
Fighting type attacks, he reasoned, were almost exclusively physical. Which meant the majority of fighting type Pokémon would be geared towards close range combat. Ever since his evolution into a Pidgeotto, Icarus had displayed an impressive jump in both speed and maneuverability in the air. His flying typing was also super-effective against fighting types. It was definitely a choice worth considering. As he finished tidying up and resumed his journey through the forest, Regal thought about the other Pokémon he had caught which might be suitable for his upcoming gym battle.
His best melee fighter right now was Nova, who could utilize his claws, fangs and even tail to great effect in battle. Terra was also incredibly fast and strong, but would be at a type disadvantage against the gym leader. Not that that had stopped him during the gym battle in Nix. Then there was Magnolia. The little fairy Pokémon preferred gathering honey to actually battling, but the Cutiefly's bug/fairy typing would be very effective against the leaders fighting types. Decisions, decisions...
"I suppose I can figure it out after I get out of this forest." The trainer muttered as he stopped to sip some water. "For now I should keep catching more Pokémon to increase my options."
And now he was doing just that. Today's offering to the trainer came in the form of a Cherubi and Applin, which he was happy to take on with Icarus and Sylvain. It wasn't much of a battle, given that the Applin just kept using Withdraw while his Treecko kept whacking it with its tail. Even his Pidgeotto didn't have much time cornering the spooked Cherubi, who was too panicked to even aim its attacks properly. Seeing in his Pokédex that the grass type was usually preyed on by bird Pokémon, Regal decided to put it out of its misery and sealed it in a Pokéball before doing the same with the Applin, who he suspected was equally relieved to be out of the fight.
Two more entries in his Pokédex. Two new candidates for battle. It might not have seemed like much of a challenge, but Regal knew the results of their efforts would show themselves in time. For now he would focus on getting to the city so that he could take inventory and form a plan. Piece of cake.

Regal Bastionxxxxxxx »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» "The human mind is like a parachute... "...This taste like ****."
"I know." Regal groaned as he sipped his latest coffee failure with disdain. After setting up the markers and barriers for their current location in the forest, Master Yamamoto had suggested a quick break for lunch. He'd had nothing but praise for the trainer's mushroom risotto, but the after meal coffee was... less than impressive.
"Perhaps you would have better luck with green tea?" He politely suggested as the younger man retrieved his cup. "Tea bags are easy enough to prepare, and it's much healthier on your stomach."
Which was absolutely true. But that would entail Regal throwing in the towel and cutting his losses, which he wasn't eager to do. For now, he would keep trying his best while keeping green tea under advisement. With lunch officially over, the two men decided to have a quick battle to help them digest. A two on two format was agreed upon, and Regal selected Magnolia and Regis to square off against the master's Sawk and Throh. To say it was one sided would be an under statement.
Yamamoto had his Throh open up with Taunt, limiting his Pokémon to attacking moves only. This was especially bad for Magnolia, since the tiny Cutiefly could hardly rely on brute force to win her battles. With no choice but to attack, Regal had Regis advance with Wild Charge to cover for its teammate, only to wince as the lion Pokémon was quickly brought down by its opponents Counter. With her partner out cold, it wasn't long before Magnolia was trapped in the clutches of her opponents as well, forcing Regal to concede defeat.
"Learning how to use your opponent's strengths against them will make all the difference in battle." Yamamoto commented as the trainer healed up his Pokémon. "Every Pokémon has weaknesses beyond their type affinities. Your Pokédex will prove to be an invaluable tool in finding them."
The loss stung pretty bad, but Regal had to admit that he agreed with the older man's advice. It seemed like there would be yet more studying in the trainer's future. For now though, it was time to get back to work. They were finished preparing this section of the forest for the bug catching contest, so now they needed to move on to another. Hopefully they could find some of the Pokémon for the capture requests as well.

Regal Bastionxxxxxxx »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» "The human mind is like a parachute... "Phew... It's finally over..."
He hadn't managed to find anything too big in this last section of the forest, but Regal had still used up all of his remaining Sport Balls. Thanks to some controlled bursts of fire courtesy of Nova, the trainer had managed to catch himself a Venonat, Ledyba, Wurmple, Cascoon, and Venepede to wrap up his catching spree in the Rowling Forest. Twenty balls. Twenty Pokémon. If quantity really was a factor in the judging, then Regal would have top marks in at least one of the categories once he got back to Applegate. Hopefully it would be enough to win the contest.
Now that everything was over, the exhaustion was hitting Regal all at once. Just like Yamamoto had wanted, the trainer had only used his left arm for every capture during the contest. It was still extremely difficult for him to do so, but the handicap was also forcing him to employ different tactics to ensure his targets were perfectly immobilized before tossing a ball. It was tough, but he had to concede that it was good practice. Sharing a bottle of Fresh Water with Nova, the trainer decided to review his captures one more time before he returned to the city.
His biggest captures had been a Heracross, a Beedrill and an Ariados. All of them had seemed quite strong when he had encountered them in the forest, and he was sure that they would all be worth big points. A Pinsir or Scyther would have been ideal, but he had still done pretty well for himself in the end. Regal wasn't sure what kind of prizes were up for grabs, but the trainer felt confident that he would place high.
Getting his second wind back, Regal returned Nova to his Pokéball and sent out Jarvis instead. Once again, the trainer had his Porygon use Teleport to send him back to the city. Chills went up his spine as the move started taking effect, and the trainer had a feeling that this sensation was something that would take a long time to get used to. But before that, it was time to report his captures to the judges. One way or another, this contest was finished.
