CAMPER FORM

Name: Isra Nejem
Alias: Isra is pretty easy to say, in their opinion.
Age: 10
Gender: Non-binary, they/their/them pronouns
Powers: Empathy ((Levitation))
Aura: Gold, low frequency, Burgundy

Appearance: N/A

Personality:

Isra is the epitome of the expression: "Actions speak louder than words." Though not completely non-verbal, Isra would much prefer to show rather than tell you pretty much anything, whether it be a really cool flower they found or how angry they are at you for forgetting to save them a piece of cake. Attention to facial expressions is crucial to understanding Isra - but don't worry, they won't make it hard on you. Isra simply does not believe in hiding their feelings, and that means they will always be upfront with you about their thoughts - to the point of childishness. This might lead to uncomfortable situations if you've manged to get on their bad side - Isra will make no secret of their dislike of you, no matter the occasion or setting, which can land you both in hot water if they start pinching you angrily in the middle of class.

Physical contact overall is a very important tool of communication for Isra. They would much prefer tapping you on the shoulder than calling your name, or pulling you into a hug instead of offering condolences. They do realize, however, that some might not be comfortable with the ease they initiate body contact, and will immediately withdraw if they sense the other person is uncomfortable - and with their empathy, they can sense that very quickly indeed. It is, in fact, their empathy from which their physicality stems - to them the body is the quickest and easiest way to express how they and others feel, and as such body language and facial expressions are much more understandable and natural to them than the spoken word.

This physicality naturally extends to their favorite pastimes, as well - Isra loves all manners of sports, from soccer (football, it's football their dad mutters angrily whenever they use the term at home) to track. They haven't quite decided which one they like best, yet. Wait, scratch that - hiking and, eventually, mountaineering. Definitely that. Their parents have promised to start taking them with them on their mountain hikes when they turn 11 and boy, is Isra excited for it. Until then, they'll make do with exploring every inch of the camp territory, they suppose.

School is a bit difficult for Isra. They just really don't see the point of staying inside studying when they could be outside, seeing and doing new things, exploring. Math is honestly incomprehensible to them most of the time, and, while books can hold their attention for a while if they have a thrilling plot and exciting characters, language arts is dull and boring. Social studies and geography fare better - Isra loves learning about other people and where they live - and history can be interesting when the teacher focuses on the people and culture of that age. Honestly, though, Isra would much rather do things rather than learn about them.

History:

Isra comes from a happy and wealthy family of three - they are an only child, though they really hope they get siblings soon. Their father is an heir to a large business conglomerate, and has mastered the skill of using money to make more money. This takes up only a fraction of his time, and William Pennsworth is free to spend the rest of it on writing novels about the intricacies of Plato and spending time with his beloved wife and child. Vijaya Nejem leads a much busier life as a highly-qualified freelance programmer, but nevertheless finds time to indulge her spouse in whatever shenanigans he cooks up for the family.

William and Vijaya met at MIT, where the latter was studying computer science and the former was preparing for his inheritance by obtaining a Bachelor's in economics. Both took a philosophy course - Will because of his long-standing love of the subject, Vijaya because she needed the humanitarian credit. They were partnered together for the very first assignment and the rest was inevitable. William was smitten by Vijaya strength of will, while Vijaya was charmed by William's mix of charisma and social awkwardness.

The marriage followed a year later, and Isra was born while both of their parents were a year away from getting their degree. In a truly herculean feat, both obtained their degree while taking care of a year-old baby, helped in no small part by Isra's grandparents, who traveled to Massachusetts from India and England to dote on their grandchild.

At two years old, Isra let everybody now they would not be an ordinary child. They did this by levitating a meter above the ground and giggling happy at the befuddlement of their parents. All members of the family were gathered, and a discussion that took place around the floating child helped shed some light on the situation - it seemed that Vijaya's great-grandmother from her mother's side was known to be a witch with the ability to control plants. The discovery prompted William to spend a scandalous amount of time and money on researching his own family history, which allowed the discovery of a great-uncle with the ability to control shadows. Gethin Doyle was more than happy to travel to the US to meet his newly acquired kin and to reassure the parents of the young psychic. Gethin was also the one to let the family in on the existence of Psychonauts and the credentials of a very certain summer camp before he, regrettably, had to return to Wales - but not before promising to visit as often as he could.

Uncle Gethin became very much a part of the family as the years went by, and the best friend and closest confident of Isra as they grew up. He was the first one to learn that Isra had understood that they were they and not her at the age of six, and his irrevocable support helped Isra gather the courage to inform the rest of their family. All of Isra's tentative concerns were immediately put to rest - everyone was completely supportive, and the wondrous hue of their love was the first color that Isra ever saw in another person's aura.

A happy four years down the line, and Isra is finally ready for their first year at Murmuring Pines Psychic Summer Camp.

Hey Wyrm!
Sorry about the wait.

There's just a couple things we'd like to clear up about Isra with you, specifically about their history!

You're already aware of this, it seems, with your note, but we would like you to flesh it out more. Everything you have is good, we just need to know more about them.

How did their family come to realize Isra wasn't just a casually empathetic child but in fact a psychic empath? You say the transition was smooth and subtle, which would make discovering this extremely difficult.

Isra's family knows about psychics and sees them in a positive light, which is very interesting! but how did come to be when, while most people are aware of psychics, treat them skeptically? Have psychics helped them in the past or were there psychics in their family before, even if there are not any active in Isra's family now?

In light of Isra's grandmother mentioning other powers, there are of course the standard powers available to all psychics that Isra could tap into for an easy explanation of being psychic: telepathy or levitation being the easiest (and considering Journey child, a wee floating Isra would be a super cute nod).

Lastly, though a big deal doesn't need to be made of it, we would like to have more insight into their gender identity and how it affects Isra and their family, as well as some experiences they might have had because of it. They seem like very loving parents so they probably took it well, we would just like to know a little more as it will help establish their relationship and how Isra will also present with other kids at camp.

I expanded on the history a lot more and introduced Uncle Gethin - I left his identity purposefully vague as I don't know if were allowed to have OC Psychonauts come into the picture, and, if we're not, how much a "civilian" psychic would know about the Psychonauts. Let me know if I should expand on/rewrite anything!
