Personality:
The kind of girl that is always friendly and sweet, Giselle is rarely unhappy or mean. There is a dreamy quality to her but her feet are on the ground rather than being air-headed. She is soft-spoken but talkative and likes to be around people because she grew up without any siblings and found it lonely. A part of her wishes she'd find a sister figure of sorts in the military but she knows better than to try and force anything. She is very clingy to her friends and works hard to please them which results in her acting as a gopher most of the time. She knows that some might take advantage of her in this aspect but she'd rather tough it out than argue over it. Confrontation is a scary scary thing and she'd rather bend over backwards, somersault and scramble back up again than pick a fight.

Growing up with her parents' money and help, Giselle never really achieved complete independence and sometimes struggles without the help of others. She relies on the belief that others will be good and is constantly learning that the world does not have to be nice to her and doesn't owe her anything. Learning is not easy for her despite how much she likes it and she is very slow at picking things up outside of her expertise (math and architecture). Because she does not like to think about her faults as it easily depresses her, she finds excuses for her failures that mostly blame other people or things so that whatever happened, it was 'out of her control'.

There is a lot of self doubt in this girl and she suffers several self fulfilling prophecies because anxiety can get the better of her. When comforted or coached, she does drastically better just having someone at her side but someday she's going to have to learn to do it on her own. Giselle easily cries whether because she's happy, upset, hurt or embarrassed but smiles are just as quick to come as well.

History:
Giselle was born to a middle class merchant family that owned their own restaurant in Trost. The food was good, your basic steaks and cooked vegetables, but it was not something that greatly interested Giselle as a career. She enjoyed learning her family's techniques and certainly liked eating but she couldn't shake off the feeling that she ought to be doing more with her life. Even if the world was peaceful and for the most part comfortable, it felt like wasted time just sitting around in a big fancy cage of walls. What laid outside of them? Certainly there were titans but the world had to have much more to offer. If only there was some way to get out there while still remaining protected from the danger lurking!

Her childhood years passed without incident, living on the nicer side of Trost and working on her education as a chance to break out of the restaurant business and into something greater. She found her interests swaying towards architecture and chemistry. Although not the brightest student in her class, Giselle enjoyed it a lot and decided the best way to continue learning (or better learn since she had difficultly in the classroom setting) was to have hands on experience. During one of her daydreams, she came up with the idea that maybe they just had to construct further walls and barriers to further explore the world outside. It would be too much to construct walls as gigantic as Rose, Maria or Sina but surely something smaller to protect and fortify forts could work!

With this new goal in mind, she decided to join the military to become a part of the Garrison. There she would be able to work on the walls and learn how to maintain and hopefully construct them. If she joined the Survey Corps, it would give her a chance to leave and explore but she would likely die and learn nothing about engineering or architecture. Her family was less than pleased with her decision but reluctantly let her go figuring the harsh environment and hard work would prove too much for her and she'd give up. So far though, she has managed to survive and it seems the hard knocks method might actually be shaping her up into something sensible rather than the naive too idealistic girl she started as.

Before joining, she briefly experimented with crude methods of making concrete and trying to improve it but hasn't had much success yet. She hopes to continue her efforts once she's graduated since being a trainee doesn't give her a lot of free time to really focus on it.

Extra: Goes by Gigi with friends. She really admires strong women and idolizes them though it's unclear if she wants to be them or is interested in them. Bisexual but leans towards women. She is a romantic at heart and likes to imagine romances between people she knows, no matter how unlikely or silly. Call it a (secret) guilty pleasure. She is tall and skinny so physical work is harder than average for her. Giselle enjoys her height because she feels it makes her appear less youthful and girlish to tower over people but her mannerisms and behavior hint that she's not as mature as she likes to think.
