He's deceitful, a skilled liar and very manipulative, but as soon as Alan comes in, Aldrich turns into a huge teddy bear. Alan is his life, his most beloved person, and he would give anything to make him happy, even if it means sacrificing his own happiness.
Bio: Born in Rhodesia to two poverty-stricken farmers, Aldrich Brandt was scheming for a better life from the moment he escaped his penniless mother's womb. Handsome even from an early age, he used his looks to manipulate the girls in his small village to give him their meager allowances, desperate to save money and leave their filthy village. Aldrich knew he was too smart, too good for these people, and although his parents loved him, he wouldn't allow himself to live like he was forever, scrounging for food and barely capable of keeping their land theirs. He was determined to get away, and by the age of ten, had acquired just enough money for a train ride into the nearest town. He was about to give up hope when his father was suddenly given a new job.
Diamond smuggling.
The blood diamonds, although not an honorable trade, should have brought plenty of money to the family. However, Aldrich's father was so timid and meek, he wouldn't bargain for more payment for such a life-threatening job. Aldrich, by then only eleven years old, would not allow his father's cowardice to ruin his one chance for money to get away. Tossing away his father, the boy went to the boss himself and managed to convince him to allow the boy to smuggle diamonds on his own. Aldrich brilliantly devised a secret way to move the diamonds, earning millions upon millions in diamonds as he did. His work grew and grew, other big bosses being referred to the young man's business. By the time Aldrich was fourteen, he'd far surpassed his pathetic upbringing and owned his own smuggling business in Africa. But Africa wasn't enough.
The young Rhodesian, his home country now called Zimbabwe, reached out to other various smuggling operations in international waters, his charm and unrivaled creativity earning him more and more clients. It wasn't long until Fire Diamond Co. was a key factor in 76.3% of international smuggling operations, the CEO, a young man at the tender age of sixteen, a rising star in the business world. He was already a millionaire. But he wouldn't stop until he hit the billions, and then the trillions. He's still not in the trillions yet, but his life isn't even half over.
It was around this time that Aldrich made the fatal mistake of spending the night with a pretty young model from Germany who used to live on a farm. That night ended up changing his life. Although the two were not in love, Aldrich married the girl immediately upon realizing she was pregnant, retiring her from her modeling profession forcefully and welcoming their beautiful child into their life. Although the boy was short-tempered and perpetually grumpy, Aldrich adored his son more than he'd ever known he could. Although he aged seventeen and should have been partying like his young wife did, the businessman spent the time he didn't fill with work on lavishing his young son and heir to his fortune with expensive gifts and toys that he'd always wanted as a child. His wife wasn't as heavily involved in Alan's life she should have been, but Aldrich didn't care. He didn't need her. He was happy with the way thing were.
Unfortunately, happiness doesn't always work out in these types of stories. Eventually, Aldrich fell in love with a young prostitute, having been reduced to paying the prostitute after his wife humiliated him by joining into a public affair with a male model from her home country. Furious by the embarrassment she'd caused, Aldrich filed for divorce and had his wife deported from the country, sending her and her lover back to Germany. He blocked her from Alan's life completely, and Aldrich never saw his ex-wife again.
Now, his son is older and a scientist, with no interest in the family business. All Aldrich wants is an heir to carry on his legacy, but he'll first have to convince his twenty-six year old son to forgo physics for money, an act that he doesn't believe he taught Alan to do.
