Rumors can spread as quick as fire. Sometimes faster. Worst than fire, rumors take longer to kill, to wait for the whispering to burn out to nothing but ashes. And rumors have the uncanny ability to travel to the four corners, carried on the back of winds and breezes, which is how Ramla had gotten word of a rather peculiar fire. A fire that could not be explained. It had appeared out of nowhere in the rogue lands. There were few witnesses to the actual fire, but many had seen the dark plume of smoke from great distances. In wake of the fire, there had been the lands had burned to ashes until the sky was covered in layers of soot and ashes, where an innocent might mistake the landscape for a expanse of snow.
Theories and accusations were abundant. The land had dried and caught a flame. The sun god was angered and demanded rejuvenation of the land. However, the most popular of theories was that a lion with a coat of coals and a mane of an inferno had walked the lands, leaving fire to blossom wherever he went.
True or not, it was an interesting tale and Ramla was determined to get to the bottom of it. It had taken days to track down the origin of the rumor. A bird claimed to have seen such a lion and then it was even longer before the lioness could get any bearings of where the lion may be. She knew that her journey might not yield to anything and that it might all just be a ghost hunt, but if it weren't, what a story it would make.
ChaosTheories Hmm... do you think that is enough back story to get this RP started? Let me know if you think I should tweak anything.

It seemed that the creatures of the roguelands always needed an explanation when disaster struck, someone or something to blame before their minds could be settled again. Rumours were common during these times, and the focus always seemed to be the same; anyone that stood out from the norm would be their chosen victim. Lonely, unfortunate souls, those who preferred their privacy, anyone with an odd habit or appearance... they all seemed to be fair game.
Paieo didn't usually think about such things. It was only since others seemed to take a new interest in him that he had bothered to find out why. Discovering the rumour just left him disgruntled and even more elusive than he was before. he enjoyed his privacy and preferred to do his own thing. He wasn't a side show attraction for bored rogues.
Birds called above him, so he looked up at them, wondering what they wanted. Feathery beasts, more of a nuisance than anything. They didn't even have much meat on them. He inhaled slowly, then forcefully roared into the sky without warning, scattering small animals left and right.
Patji Great start, in my opinion!

Ramla couldn't help the wide grin that appeared on her face as she watched the sky cloud with the bodies of birds. Her journey may not have been for naught after all. Picking up her pace, she made for the one space beneath a clear sky. She could only assume that that was also the origin of the strong roar that had shaken the earth. As she went against the direction of the birds, she ears were drowned with the shrieks yelling at her that she was going straight towards danger, to fire. The warnings warmed her. This has got to be the place. This has to be him, she thought as she ran at full throttle.
To say that he stood out would be a severe understatement. For once the rumors were true. He had a pale red coat and his mane looked as if they were afire. Ramla wanted to stare, but her amazement quickly turned into wariness as she registered his expression. He didn't appear to be in the best of moods.
The lioness open and closed her mouth several times as she approached, feeling very much like a fish on land as she tried to think of what to say. Blurting out the rumor and demanding the truth didn't seem like it would fly well with this particular lion. She could try to draw the story out of him slowly with her charm, but that plan felt even more shaky. Dumbfounded, a rare thing for the lioness, Ramla plopped down on the ground, wrapping her tail gently around her legs, and said, "Hello."

Paieo didn't expect the commotion that ensued. Birds lifted off trees nearby, and soon the few in the sky was suddenly many. He grunted as they flapped around in panic, spreading away from him like water from a dropped stone.
Stupid creatures. He felt a small rodent scurry across his front paws, stirred by the noise and the movement. He swiped at it, missed, and decided it was time to get out of there.
He had only taken about two steps when an even bigger annoyance appeared; a lioness, gaping at him like a surprised cub. Then she proceeded to sit herself right in the way of where he wanted to go. He frowned, studying her as she said hello.
"What do you want?" he asked, not harshly, but his voice was cold.

If Paieo was a more violent lion, he probably would have swiped Ramla across the face and fled. Even so, the thought crossed his mind briefly. Instead, he sighed and tried willing her away. He walked, trying to ignore her like a particularly persistent fly. He just wanted to be left alone, was that so much to ask? Privacy was scarce, with the damn rumour going around...
He couldn't ignore her for long. Her first few words were easy to forget about but then she asked about birds, of all things. Birds! He grit his teeth. "Snide and sarcastic, you mean." He mumbled, almost against his own will. "Squawking beasts with beaks that don't stop flapping about things they don't understand."
