Blue Rievegeth
As much as he was prepared for when he dropped into the clouds it was still confusing. It was like sound echoed around withing the fog. Was that a male or the gold? The shifting vapor made it too difficult to tell. The blue cursed the cloud with a snarl. The sound of the gold calling from above made him snake his head around. She'd gotten above them again whilst they fumbled around in here.
By now the smaller blue's breath came in ragged gasps. Despite his rider encouraging him as the best blue he could feel fatigue setting in. Still he kept pushing himself higher and higher.

Round 5 End 1st - Voracath – 73 = 58 + 14 + 1 2nd – Gereth – 71 = 67 - 5 + 7 + 2 3rd – Rievegeth – 65 = 52 + 13 4th – Orthoth – 58 = 36 + 19 + 2 + 1 5th – Gyafrith – 55 = 41 + 14 ---------------------------------------------- Time was wearing thin. Her wing muscles had begun to ache, her lungs laboured. She no longer had the drive to twist, dive and climb. Still she was high enough and those left had proven they could keep up with her twists and turns. They had proven their power and their worth. True not any of them would do. She wouldn’t be happy with just any of them. She still had enough energy to last a little while longer. Calith wasn’t ready to be caught just yet. The choice would be hers, the gold never approved of being plucked out of the skies. Any male that tried to grab her would receive a firm strike to the face. The strongest would be chosen, but arrogance would not be tolerated in any form. Throwing everything into her wings the gold dragon shot forward. The burst of speed would be unexpected at this late stage and would burn out her remaining energy, but they were here to be tested. If they had not had the forethought to keep back some energy for a last ditch sprint then more fool them. There was only one more thing Calith could think of to test her prospective mates. Only one more task she could set them. It would be hard on them in this late stage, their wings would be tired and difficult manouvers would be taxing, but if they wanted to earn the privilege of siring her young then they had to do more than simply fly. Snaking her head back around, she looked back at the five males chasing her. Voracath and Gereth so close together. Rievegeth not too far behind. Orthoth and Gyrafrith bringing up the rear. She uttered only two words to them. The only words she had spoken during the entire flight. Impress me.(That part about premature catching is true by the way. Any male that attempts to grab Calith this round, even if he is in the lead, will suffer a -5 from his total score on account of her smacking him in the face.)Round 6 Begin Final Round Calith's bonus for this round is 4 Trick round! Calith’s looking to be impressed. Put on your best trick. Dragons have to be rped as doing a trick to be able to do this roll. Quality tricks may be awarded extra points if it’s really daring. Roll a second dice. The nearer to ten, the higher the score! 10 - Perfect score! 10 points 9 or 11 - 9 points 8 or 12 - 8 points 7 or 13 - 7 points 6 or 14 - 6 points 5 or 15 - 5 points 4 or 16 - 4 points 3 or 17 - 3 points 2 or 18 - 2 points 1 or 19 - 1 point 20 - Complete failure - 0 points

Blue Gyafrith
Gyafrith could feel his muscles aching and he was starting to grow tired. Ashlyn told him he could stop, if he wanted to, but she knew he wouldn't be happy with himself if he did not see this through to the end. So she told him she believed in him and that seemed to give him that extra push he needed as he continued to follow Calith. He saw her sudden burst of speed and he was kind of surprised, but that just seemed to spur him even more. He put everything he had into putting some more speed in his flight, knowing he was behind everyone else. When she thought to them to impress her, he had to think of what to do. He looked around his surroundings and knew what he was going to do.
He dove back towards the clouds, pulling up just above the top of them. Then he flew across them, with his underside skimming the tops of the clouds, as he would do over the water if he wanted to get cool. Then once he had done that a bit, he rose to the air, did a small roll in the air, before doing a steep dive and going through the clouds this time. Once he got far enough in the clouds, he did another roll and came shooting through the clouds, doing a few somersaults in the air.

Voracath
Impress her? Impress her?! Was not the fact that he was in the lead, and had bloodied his only real competitor not enough for her? Vorcath snapped his teeth even as he strained his wings to keep his short lead. What did he care of her entertainment?! This was a flight not a harper's play! She should already be impressed by him!
With another growl Voracath twisted his wings, bringing himself close enough to kick out again at Gereth. The bronze was still too close for comfort and if Voracath must spend the last of his energies trying to impress Calith than he was sure going to get one last lick in while he could. Gereth would remember this day! Voracath would leave his loss written in his own hide!
Voracath was not a fancy flier. The one thing the smaller brown had for him though was persistance. Didn't matter what his 'prey' was. When his ire was up there was nothing that would stop this voracious dragon. With a thrust of his wings Voracath shot up into the air, higher than even the gold had gone. With his wings burning he reached the peak of his climb and stopped, motionless for the briefest of moments before dropping back down, wings tucked and barely shifting, his tail working as a rudder to spin him as he dove, a dark blur, shooting down past Calith before his wings snapped open with a painful sounding crack, arcing him out of his dive and using the momentum to once again bring him back up to her cruising height. Never once did he reach a claw for her as he shot around but now, aching and spent, it was obvious he was flying straight for her and his flight would end either with her choosing him or him dropping out of the skies.

Bronze Orthoth
Orthoth could do this! Even if he wasn't in the lead he was an impressive bronze. She had only asked for one thing this entire flight and now Orthoth was glad he hadn't pushed himself so hard the entire time. The younger and smaller dragons were already twisting themselves into dangerous stunts. Let them dash around like wherries with a snake in their nest. Orthoth was a dignified beast.
She had asked though and he was obliged to give her what she wanted. He lifted his head, his broad chest expanding as he bugled. His brassy voice ringing clear and true with a wordless message of honor and a tribute to the gold's beauty. He 'sang' above the snarls and angry noises of the other dragons, his wings flared and body undulated to show how his brindled hide still glowed with health in the bright sunlight above the clouds. Orthoth would Impress her with beauty rather than daring.

Of course.
Gereth's simple answer was filled with confidence. While the gold may not have felt the same affection for him as he did her, he firmly believed Calith was his. No upstart brown was going to take her from him! Despite his wounds, the bronze hastened to soar above the others; and suddenly dove, making several sharp turns. He sped up, spiralling in the air, hoping to catch Calith's attention. Hoping he could make her see he was the best of all the dragons present. The only dragon worthy of her attention.
The bronze stopped only a moment, upon being attacked. He turned to bugle at Voracath in rage. Calith was his! Why did this brown insist on attacking him?
(Distance, attempt to dodge, trick: apologies for order error).

Blue Rievegeth
The blue was mildly surprised at the sudden spurt of speed from the gold. She was still playing hard to get. Rievegeth was rather pleased with himself actually. He wasn't at the rear of the pack, even if he wasn't at the front either. His muscles and lungs burned as he struggled to keep his place.
He narrowed his eyes. Impress her. This was it. Though he was on his last legs, he needed something fancy. The corner of his eye caught the other blue still chasing doing somersaults. Brown and bronze hides flashed. Rievegeth started to weave back and forth, then with a flick of his tail inverted himself. Belly up to the sky he pointed his nose down toward the ground and did a 180 loop using gravity to increase his speed; except he was now going the wrong way. He shot out of the loop and did a wingtip turn to bring himself around.
Distance: 13 +20 +19 +13 +16 +5= 86 (Distance, trick) (@Muffin- Rievegeth has had an extra point added into his score somehow. Unless I did my math wrong or missed something.)

((Fixed the tally error, Magna, thanks for pointing it out.)) Round 6 End Trick scores:Originality1st – Orthoth +2 2nd – Rievegeth +1 Effort1st – Voracath + 2 2nd – Gereth + 1 Flair1st – Voracath +2 2nd – Orthoth +1 Final Scores 1st - Voracath – 91 = 73 + 5 + 9 + 2 + 2 1st – Gereth – 91 = 71 + 14 + 5 + 1 2nd – Rievegeth – 87 = 65 + 16 + 5 + 1 3rd – Orthoth – 80 = 58 + 13 + 6 + 2 + 1 4th – Gyafrith – 79 = 55 + 18 + 6 ---------------------------------------------- This was it, her choice had to be made now. They had all flown well, outclassing the others that had given chase. It was admirable, it truly was. Sadly she could choose only one. Calith looked back and her gaze settled on Gyafrith at the back of the pack. Brave little blue, he had been there since the start and fought so very hard. He was a prize, that was to be sure, but not for her. Not today. Perhaps he would join her in the skies again one day and prove his worth once more. His darts and rolls were certainly amusing to behold, but they could not win him this flight. Then there was Orthoth, the gold crooned softly to the older male. His singing had been lovely and it had set him apart from the others. He must visit her sometime. Calith however needed to bear strong young and his voice could not help her with that. The bronze had done well to last this long against competitors far younger than himself, experience had rivalled youth. In this battle however it looked like youth was set to win. Ahead once more was Rivegeth. His trick had been an interesting one, certainly a risk to throw himself backwards, but he had made up the distance and that was impressive. He had been rather quiet this flight. Arriving late and not really making much of a name for himself. Calith had to admire the strength that had him chasing at the tails of the larger males and it was impressive to have had two blues last to the end of her flight this time around. Alas there would be no upheaval of tradition to have a blue win a gold flight today. That left her two frontrunners. They had been so close for so long. Each one having a moment to be ahead of the other before it was snatched back. Truly they had both flown well. Gereth, her usual mate, showing why he had been her mate all these turns; and Voracath doing browns proud by holding at the front of the pack so well. The two were the same distance from her and Calith knew it had come time to decide between them. It was a hard choice, that much was certain. At the back of her mind she could feel her rider trying to push her towards Gereth. He had flown hard enough, hadn’t he? He was at the front and here at the end, what more did she want? Yet still Calith hesitated. She glanced at the two males and saw the marks on their hides. Voracath had laid more hits on Gereth and had the brown not flown it was obvious that Gereth would have been far in the lead by this point. Still, what did that say of Gereth? True, had Voracath not attacked he would have flown better. Yet that meant the brown had the strength to hinder the strongest bronze in the Weyr. Gereth had struck Voracath and still the brown held with him, yet Gereth had not seen fit to drive him out. There was something in Voracath’s aggressive pursuit that intrigued her. He had fought more literally than the others, striking out at his competitors. For a moment her mind turned to the Weyr as a whole. Voracath had fight in him, a will that didn’t shrink back when larger dragons would challenge him, but instead fought back against them. Refused to be dominated. Her decision made Calith twisted sideways, angling herself toward her chosen suitor. A deep hum rumbled in her throat as she looked at the male. You have flown well today, Voracath.---------------------------------------------------------------- Congratulations to VoracathNow you may have noticed that Gereth and Voracath were neck and neck at the end of round 6. So, instead of putting in another round and making this event run even longer than it already had. I opened the decision up to the impartial judge I brought in to decide on the trick scores. That judge chose Voracath as the winner and even gave this handy quote to explain why: The Mysterious Independent Adjudicator The whole competition revolves around determining the genetic superiority of the participants. My understanding is that Chromatic dragons are inherently less tough and enduring all round than the Metallic dragons, essentially putting them into different weight categories in a similar manner to boxers. In simple terms, a super heavy weight will more often than not, win against an equally skilled featherweight due to raw mass and power. Through dogged determination, aggression, and sheer bloody mindedness, Voracath has demonstrated that he can punch above his weight category with attitude to spare. He has managed to keep pace with the big boys at a constant run, whilst also fighting a larger opponent to a standstill, before finally diving right past his target's face. He may not have beaten his opponents per se, but he has definitely rivalled them, which leads to my final point: Chromatic dragons birthed from his line will be the equal of any Metallic dragons out there, and if that isn't the definition of genetic superiority, then I don't know what is.
