So I caved in... I figured typing up inside this diary would help me record the on goings and the ... not so 'on' goings too. It's been a few days since Oth came to live with me. Us. Whatever. Why haven't I written anything down before? Well, tell truth, I had forgotten what having a baby around could be like; needless to say I've not had too much time to sit down and think.

Most of my day is spent yelling something akeen to "Don't eat that!" or "NO! Don't you DARE bite that! You can't eat that egg! It's going to hatch!"

When I first brought in the lil hyena I had no idea he'd have a distinct habit for bitting, munching and tasting anything he got his small paws on! Had I known, I'd have hyena-proffed my house before his arrival, but what can I say? I'm not a hyena expert! I looked up info on them, and even despite what I found, this lil guy doesn't seem to behave exactly like the info says he should; affinity for bitting aside. The info I dug up mentions females being much worse than males.... I shudder at the idea of having gotten a lil hyena girl rather than Oth.

Yin's excited, Yan's displeased, and I, on the whole, am terrified. Oh, and my tail is displeased too; it's gotten a taste of Oth's jaws a couple of times now; I've no idea what in the seven hells he things my tail is, but he snaps his jaws over it the first oportunity he gets.

To do stuff (in order):

- Buy meat
- Buy bones (Yes, he seems to like sucking and otherwise bitting them)
- Buy baby toys that are indestructible and can be munched on
- Talk to Yan
- Talk to Steal

Things NOT to do:

- Talk on the phone while my tail's within Oth's reach
- Try to check out how his fangs are coming along
- Try to snatch his bandana away to wash it

I need help.

I can't figure out just how this works; at one moment he's happy, then something flashes across his features, he growls and throws a tantrum; I've yet to figure out what triggers this.

Could be a bloody passing fly, for all /I/ know!

The only thing that can calm Oth down is Kala; she's a new born feli kit... they seem to click together, and spend more time together than i can spend with either of them, or Kala's mother can spend with her, for that matter. I talked to Yin, but didn't talk to Yan. I think he refuses to talk to me, for whatever reason... e_e I can only hope a loud growling baby with an attitude isn't one of the reasons he refuses to do much with me, because if it is... then boy, I have a ig problem. Yin told me it's fine, to leave him be, it'd pass, but it's been a month and it's not 'passed'.

Babies will be babies, I have nothing against poor Oth, all he wants is attention. He seems to crave it and I'm not going to be the one to deny it to him... who would?

Right now, as I write this, he's curled up on the carpet, hugging Kala; they're both deep asleep, and though Kala's mother is watching over them both... I get the impression something's missing. Not much of a social life...

I need to et him to spend time with others.

Others NOT Kala, of course.

"Will you be allright?" A soft almost frustrated growl answered the question, to which DFA merely rolled her eyes, waving a hand, "Fine... I'll let you bem just call if you can't sleep; Kala, careful what he does," with these final words, the girl merely walked out of the room, leaving an oddly-peacock hued feli curled up around the hyena baby.

As soon as his mother had exited the room and put the lights out, semi closing the door and thus merely allowing a small ray of light shimmer in, Othieno opened his eyes; god only knew why his mother kept on insisting he sleep during nighttime... he felt extremely fidgety during this time of day, not to mention that due to getting little sleep during night, he felt oddly grumpy as of late during the daytime. His mother had yet to figure out that the few troubles she'd been having with the hyena's personality were all due to having mixed sleep habits.

"You should sleep..." the words were breathed with a mewl, however, the hyena's ears twitched towards the small feli that still purred, curled around him as they both lay in the crib. Kala, whom was usually quite timid and shy around everyone had found a friend within Oth, whom seemed to not be able to comunicate directly with his mother, it being to early for much talk at all.

A frustrated growl rumbled through Oth's chest, his grip tightening around the feli kit as his ears flattened back; all in all, he seemed to be pouting quite fiercely.

Not quite intimidated by the hyena's response, Kala turned her head so that her strangely colored eyes could regard him up through semi hooded lids, "I know you can't sleep.... I know it's strange, but..." pausing, the kit seemed to frown, "My mom and dad both say that I can do things if I try ahrd enough... even if things look scary, or seem difficult... even if I'm confussed I should still try," the frown vanished, melting away into a smile, "Try? Maybe if you sleep, or at least close your eyes... you'll be awake and perky tomorrow and then will be ale to sleep that night again? That way you'd get in the habit of sleeping during night instead of taking naps during the day?"

It wasn't the normal, Othieno's mind though understanding Kala's words.... could not trly process the information, and thus the kit's wise words were greated with a terrible whine, almost bordering despair. He couldn't just close his eyes! They... seemed to want to remain open; almost as if to express his frustration, the hyena sat up, his pose quite comical, for the feli kit was still laying down around his body, atop his lap partially; her frame covering a gran part of the baby's, much like a gigantic plushie, for though she was a small kit... she was still quite big in proportion, "Kalaaaaaa~~" it was not the first time he'd uttured that word, having learnt to pronounce it quite swiftly, and tell truth... it was one of the very few words he could utter, along side 'can't, want and food'.

"Don't 'Kala' me..." the kit's own words were mewled in a whimper, "I can't do anything, except... perhaps...." a pause as the kit uncurled from around the hyena, her paw coming to brush across her maw in thought, "Wait here Oth, Imma fetch something," this said, the kit crawled of crib and onto the floor, trotting out the room through the semi open door, and though a soft 'Kala...' was heard from behind her, she did not turn back.

It was several minutes later when the peacock returned, carrying something intside her maw, having to pause near the doorway in order to put it down, for the strain it was causing upon her jaws was beguining to be quite unbareable, tell truth, "Here..." making sure to close the door partially again, just enough so that only a stream of light would squirm inside, she slowly pushed the item towards the crib. It took her a few good moments to push and drag the item back, however, the difficulty came upon trying to push it up onto the crib; in the end, it took teamwork, the kit offering it to the hyena in her maw, the baby grabbing it.

Placing the object upon his lap, Oth stared at it as Kala crawl-squirmed back onto the crip, sinking her claws onto the mattres for a good grip.

"It's a snow globe," she whispered as she padded up to him, curling back up , partially upon his lap, "Shake it..." and as the baby did, the peacock smiled, "Daddy says that when he can't do something, he shakes this globe... and it reminds him of someone dear to him as the snowflakes fall within the globe," a pause as the kit glanced up, "I don't know what he means, mommy says I'll find out with time, but I think that.... if the snow still wants to fall over the land knowing it'll melt... it must really be brave," she explained no further, and instead settled her head upon his lawp, her eyes shutting as her maw opened, her small teeth gleaming within the little light that seeped into the room, "Keep it.... shake it till you fall asleep... watch the snow fall," this said, she fell silent.

Othieno did as he was told, slowly settling back into a laying position, his hands gripping the globe, and every so often, he'd shake it and watch the snow fall onto the forest within the crystal... it was soon after that the hyena's eyes slowly drifted shut till he fell asleep, still clinging to the little globe, and it was only then that Kala peeked an eye open, her smile widening slightly before she let out a sigh and curled up again, snuggling the hyena.

Wow.

I should've known.

After all the research I'd done on hyenas, I can't believe I did not pause to think that Othieno might be nocturnal! No wonder he'd been in such a horrible mood as of late - he wasn't getting his sleep, and what little sleep he was getting was not schedualed; babies should get a certain ammount of sleep and at certain hours. Ugh I'm dumb...

I can't believe a feli kit noticed this before I did; Kala trained Oth into sleeping habits. I have no idea how, but I think it has to do with that little snow glove Oth keeps on carrying around. Anyhow! Now that he's less prone to snapping randomly, and instead actually giggles and cackles with laughter, I think it's time I start allowing him out; who knows? perhaps he'll find a nice friend out there?

God knows he needs it. I'm amused by the fact he keeps Kala by his side at all times... I swear; I think she actually understands what he thinks, in a way... even if he growls, or whines, she knows what he's saying. I don't know how, or why.... she just does.
