*Points to above post and repeats: Sorry guys, I didn't even realize there were responses to this topic until MoMo quoted me today sweatdrop )

Yeah! Updating and planning are the hardest parts... It just takes up so much time without you realizing it! Much like opening caches, for me to look on the MP for 100+ components necessary to craft all the items... At some points I just feel like giving up XD;

Initially, I didn't realize what you're referring to when you said the newcomers were off-putting... But today I saw a great example. In someone's "I leveled up to 10" thread, another person asked them for formulas to craft so they could get exp... Seriously? That's not only rude but totally not the right place to ask.

Certain Level 1's take about 1 billion in components each >.<; Yeah I have been very crazy paranoid at times XD I'm wondering if I should just craft it myself and take a screenshot. I mean.... I probably should... I just really liked the idea of helping people level up ^^'

So the one thing I am doing is that rather than set up a service, I'm the one that approaches others... So I feel a little better about their credibility.

The situation that actually prompted me to make this post was a girl who had my components for almost a week. As it turns out, she had just traded it to someone else, and as soon as I nudged her about it, she checked trades history, got it back from the person she gave it to, and traded it to me. So she was honest! But it scared me XD;
No worries. ^^

Yeah, I keep seeing those posts and threads. It's not the right place for that kind of thing, and it's really toeing the line for begging behavior. It's like they're constantly testing my tolerance for pet peeves. ><

While I was leveling up myself, I used to approach others about crafting for me too. That way, I can choose people who specifically needed those levels. And I guess I can be pickier about whom to work with since I don't have to blatantly reject anyone. xP
And yiiiikes! That is really scary. O_o I'm glad you got the items back, though! It was really lucky that the person she traded them to was willing to return them. That would've given me enough reasons to stop offering exp bundles. >.>;
WEEEELL... The thing is XD... The end product is never worth 1 billion. Sometimes not even 100 million >___>

But actually, this time it was just components, so I wasn't *as* stressed.... I was however sad because she had crafted many things and I just thought how sad it would be if our relationship ended up sour >.<;

When you and Misfortuned first set up shops, I was like "no way I am ever going to do this... so much WORK"... But somethng about you two probably inspired me XD; In any case, I think you're right to take a break from your service shop... People are pretty much just borderline begging.

I'm also tired of seeing people set up service shop saying they need level "3"... Then 3 hours later they're already level 10 stare

Or the ones who open up a thread with a simple "Quote me to craft for you".... Did Item Alchemy Service used to have so many "hit and run" (as MoMo called it?) users? I always thought it was the place for *serious* alchemists...

Oh wow, that is a hefty gold loss to absorb. O.o

I guess losing components would end a business partnership in a hurry. ^^; Still, I'm glad it worked out in the end.
Haha, I'm flattered that you found me inspirational! ^///^ I think Checkmate did it best, tbh. Her thread is so neat and pretty. Mine is pretty much just bare bones. I borrowed heavily from her setup after my first project, though. I was overly ambitious when I tried to put those pretty icons next to all the components. xP

Ohgawd yes I know! I don't know how people can get from level 1 to 10 in like 3 days now. I mean, I guess caches are more readily available...With a bit of research, they can theoretically do it. It's just...much more likely that they're recklessly buying rare components to speed through. Or using GC to buy those exp bundles. I think it takes about $400 to buy your way to level 10, so...><;;;

I don't think Alchemy had nearly as many "hit and run"s back then as it does now. There were always some, but they never bothered to set up a service thread. Instead, they were usually the ones who start the "Alchemy is too expensive!" threads 'cause they look at the 99 GC RIG formulas and then quit without researching more. I've always thought that the Alchemy choke points were levels 3 and 5 because they were the first times you run into a situation where there are very few cache-only formulas. If someone can figure their way out through those levels, then I consider them a serious Alchemist. Even though level 9 is probably the most costly level by far, once you get that close, you just can't stop until 10. xD
Nowadays, though...I really think that people are just plowing through the choke points by buying whatever with their massive mountains of gold. I don't know if they're even opening their own caches anymore. I mean, I sold a 100x stack of Licorice for 60k a piece. That would've never worked when I was leveling up...I tried. >.>;

I mean, the kind of service where we "give" exp to others by letting them craft it.

I've had over 50 formulas crafted by others now... But recently some of the turnaround time for getting the items back is starting to worry me emotion_bigvein

I don't know why but I'm always so afraid of people running off with the components sweatdrop

Can someone tell me that it won't happen and that people on Gaia are nice and honest emotion_sweatdrop

This is a pretty late reply to this thread, BUT! I like to share. ouo

I've only had a few people craft things for me, and I've had nothing but good experiences from it so far. I helped someone get to the next level by letting them craft quite a few things for me in one sitting and I got the items back a little later but they were good on pming me to let me know that they would have to send them to me later.

I like to think that they wouldn't take my stuff, but I'll admit that before I was a little worried about whether I would get them back or not. Even if it was just a small component for something else. Even now with prices the way they are, I'd probably trust someone to craft an expensive item for me so they could get the exp. I've found that there are quite a good few honest people in the alchemy community. 3nodding
