He managed to twist just in time so it didn't catch him in the upper ribs again, instead catching his side and knocking him to the dusty training ground. He curled on himself slightly coughing to try and catch his breath past gasping. Alec hadn't meant to go down, but with Shun's well placed kick he'd taken more of the fight out of him.

Slowly he planted his hands on the ground pushing himself up into a sitting position and staring at the other, trying to give another one last good attempt at delivering some kind of injury his attempt at a grapple lightly would result in worse punishment for his being unskilled with sparring.

There would be other times, after he'd learned were this fight might have changed. For now, he threw his weight into a tackle trying to bring him down to the ground further, going for shoving his elbow into the others side with his burst of movement. Hopefully hard enough to bruise like some of the marks on his own person.

The sudden toss was unexpected, nor did he gave a real way to stop the other, hitting the ground on his back he grunted with an 'oof' like sound. He remained on the ground, staring up at the sky above him, out of breath from the pain inflicted and physical scuffle. "Ok..okay I can't keep doing this." Alec raised his hand to call defeat, and while he wanted to keep fighting knowing ones limits also had its merit.

The instructor passed by, giving Shun an curious look between he, and the downed red head nodding in approval.

"Heh...I'll have to rematch you sometime and not get my a** kicked." He actually had it in him to laugh, stiffly getting up, having conceded, Shun having more than earned his victory. Picking himself up, he dusted himself off, offering his hand out to Shun, presumably to shake his hand.

The instructor also noted the sense of leveling the air, and making peace. Instead of screaming at the pair or berating them he simply gave pause. "You can find another partner, or be dismissed for study. Brats kept it clean, and quick." If it was a compliment it was impossible to tell. He went away to torture another pair that looked ridiculous in their equally bad attempts, barking orders.

"My guard?" Alec answered Shun with a curious expression. He'd have to take that into consideration, and nodded his head some in understanding. "It did feel like I took to many hits. Thanks..I'll have to work on it." He gave his hand a shake before dropping his hands back at his side.
