((This rp is open to anyone and is a sort of lesson. Posting a character to take part doesn't mean that character has to take part in the coming clutch or even has any intention of doing so. Characters just interested in knowing a little bit more about whers are welcome. There'll be a few lessons like this one and the same as this one joining in doesn't mean you have to enter your character for the clutch. However characters that have no history involving whers or wherhandling will not be allowed to try for an egg if they haven't attended these lessons ICly.))

He had not been prepared for this. Why had they sent a gold that was near to running here? When the disaster had struck and Ista Hold had sent a group of whers to help with the damage control Vadran had been grateful. The Weyr was full of dragons and wild whers were smart enough to stay away, meaning they didn't need to have a large taskforce. The extra body power had been a great help in their effort. But then that sharding gold had to go and run, didn't she? Now they were stuck with her, whether they liked it or not.

Word had spread around the Weyr fairly easily. The Weyr's resident whermaster was offering out a introduction to whers lesson. The lesson was open to anyone of any age and was basically a fast track to being a viable wher candidate. None of the gold dragon's had risen, so Vadran was hoping that meant he could sway a few of their candidates. Who knew how many eggs that troublesome gold was going to lay? They needed options. Greens were rarely successful in their runs, Ista Weyr never really had need for more than a handleful of candidates. It was surprising if they got more than one clutch a turn. Unfortunately a green had already depleted them of the four wher candidates they had had a few months back. Hence the desperation.

A large form hobbled up behind him and pushed itself against the man's back. Turning he smiled at the large wher, stroking her face lovingly. Vadrask was silent, as usual, but stared at Vadran with large eyes. She could tell something was troubling him, but couldn't understand what it was. Eggs were good, right? She had not clutched many times in her life, but Vadran had always been happy to see them. Why was this time different?

Vadran sighed, scratching behind the three-legged wher's ears. He loved her dearly, but she couldn't really give comfort in this situation, she didn't understand the idea of their not being enough candidates. There were lots of people in the Weyr. He looked out across the lake as it washed up against the shore, black as it reflected the night sky. It was a clear night, soft moonlight giving enough light for people to easily see. He had timed the lesson fairly early for a wher, but he needed it not long after dusk so more people would attend. Outside meant that Vadrask could also be there to provide a visual aid. Well, there was nothing he could do now, but wait. He hoped somebody showed. He would even take dragonriders at this point.
