Name: Everenten
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Rank: Candidate
Appearance:

Everenten has dark bronze skin, partly from genetics and partly from being outside so much. He has dark hazel eyes, though only his mother really has noticed that so far. As far as he and most other people are aware, they're a nondescript brown color, often shadowed by the fact that they are deep-set. Everenten's hair is somewhere on the brown spectrum, or so his sister says. It's anyone guess at the Weyr, really. Because he is stubborn and "I told my brother so," Everenten keeps his head---eyebrows and all---entirely shaved.

Since arriving to the Weyr, Everenten has shot up nearly a foot. He now stands at 6'2", with all the tell-tale signs of being in that youth's growth spurt. Despite all his hard work as a candidate, the boy has a long, lanky figure and is more clumsy than he'd have ever liked to be. Once he gets a hold on his new height, begins to fill out, and lets his hair grow, he has the makings of someone that might even make a handsome young man.

But, you know, who cares about looking good and impressing the girls when it's a whole world more fun to make fish faces at them and gag behind the candidate master's face when he talks about the s-e-x thing?

Personality: Just so you know, I always mix personality and history...and frankly reading his history first makes his personality make more sense. They were originally written as one unit.

Like any other teenager on any planet, especially one who has been uprooted from everything-he-ever-knew and expected to live a life that was sometimes contrary to everything he is sometimes still sure is truth, Everenten can be a wavery individual, and certainly has some conflicting traits about him.

Everenten is one of those wild card types, if you don't know him well enough to know the reasons. One day, he's focused, careful, curious and really trying to succeed at a task that is new and difficult for him. One day, he's working hard and even doing an impressive job on something that he's more familiar with. Another day, he's the biggest goof, most probably causality, and most aggravating possible student as he does such a bad job that no one believes he's not trying to be the worst possible ever. He'll be talked about for the next several sevendays, be the just receiver of all the authority's anger, but go away loudly boasting about how incredibly awesomely awful he was. (And he never comes back to apologize. Never.)

Reason: Pride and manliness. Everenten doesn't mind admitting to someone that he respects and knows will not make an example of him or tease him that he doesn't know what he's doing and he needs help. He'll work hard to improve it, and he'll work hard to gain approval. But if he lacks that respect for whatever reason, or there are peers present that he has to hold a reputation with, or he just feels like his manliness and pride is getting threatened---he'd much rather make a fool of himself, be able to grin like an idiot, and be like, "Yeah, I totally made that guy turn a shade of red that I didn't know was humanly possible....D'ya think dragonriders are entirely human or not?"

Everenten's a teenager, and all teenagers waver between these two. He can sit through a class talking about things that cause some nonWeyrbred children to blush, and roll his eyes along with the Weyrbred children. He can butcher an animal with the best of them, and he actually doesn't care about poop-shoveling duty, and just gets the job done without a comment. He can be a good kid to rely on. But, you know, there was that time where, all within a couple of days, he asked the STUPIDEST questions in the blush-causing classes until the instructor gave him poop-shoveling additional chores, then caused a shovel-poop-on-the-overseer rebellion, and also finally got caught as being the reason that some candidates seemed to get ill during butchering chores (because he thought it was really funny to ramble on until they turned green-gilled).

So one of the older candidates volunteered to fulfill a claim that he could make a better suited punishment, and succeeded: Make him sit and learn how to sew a candidate robe, have him sit through some additional lessons in figures and letters, and then that candidate very generously put on the compliments at how artistic and delicate his handwriting was, and how maybe he'd make a good weaver some day. When Everenten started a tantrum in response to that, the compliments went on to what a melodious and lovely voice he'd have, if he'd just have it trained...Oh, if Everenten didn't shut-up, he'd tell the candidate master to get him signed up with the harper's singing lessons ASAP!

Oh, yeah, that candidate had learned it all right. Everenten's reputation is everything to him. He is MANLY, STRONG, and willing to face any crazy odds out there without so much as batting an eyelash! Threatening his manhood either leads into crazy bets, full-out tantrums, and sometimes full-out fights (but the other guy always throws the first punch). This guy gets out of line? Not the usual punishments. Send him to write an essay on the beauty of a certain piece of art. He'll shape up in a heartbeat.

In social interactions outside of work and dares, Everenten's enthusiasm hits its limit. Unless he's very close to someone, he's not actually a very loud person. He doesn't talk much, and when he does, some might think he sounds stuck-up and shallow, because he very rarely will go very far into any conversation. Everenten doesn't socialize a great deal out and about. He actually prefers his quiet time.

He likes to think and consider, and doesn't often actually actively seek boisterous activities or companions. Was that stunt that he'll loudly proclaim for the rest of his life as being awesome and wonderful really necessary? Or was it stupid, and did he deserve to get stuck with that stupid candidate who irked him more than anyone in the world? He'd never admit it to anyone, but he actually likes girl-things in the right places (on GIRLS), he finds it endearing, and he doesn't suppose that can actually be wrong, because then how would guys and girls ever get along? That is a great mystery to him, and that is what causes him to blush. Girls are beautiful and delicate, how does a manly-man explain his manliness in liking females? He'll probably never admit those sorts of thoughts either, though he greatly desires to know those mysteries.

In the turn and a half Everenten has been at the Weyr, he has matured, he has learned, and he has come a long way. He might have a long way to go. But, hey, his a 16-turn kid. Even the people he's managed to turn the reddest should be able to acknowledge that truth.

History:

Young Everenten was the mischievous kid who was always scraping himself up, giving his older siblings the slip, giving his mother new ways to think of her own death-by-fright, and earning beatings out of his father. He's frankly lucky not to have earned more than the few relatively unnoticeable scars that he has.

This was the kid who won all the games not because he was skilled at them, but because he was the one who took ALL the bets to the VERY EXTREME, and no one really wanted to get in his way while he was whirl-winding through the mudholes or aggravating the beasts or stealing from the crops. Everenten loved the thrill of going, "Ho, boy, I just did this.... I wonder if I'm gonna get caught" more than he did the competition, and loved the adventure of finding out new ways to entertain himself, his friends, and his siblings.

Because Everenten's older brothers were.....older brothers....they both had a huge impact on his life and were occasionally complete jerks to him, along wit being best-friends-forever. They instilled into him at a very young age that boys had to be MANLY BOYS, and they were held together by a pact of never-tell-the-authority and always-tell-the-best-fishing-tale. And YOU won by skill, the rest were just lucky when they won. Never cry. Never show emotions. Never be caught loving on your sisters (even though they did, they couldn't GET CAUGHT doing it!), and for the love of all that is being a manly, wonderful person, never do anything that could cause you do be said to be girly! (And his older brothers made up a slew of "manly" rules just to see what their stupid little brother would believe and do.)

So, in short, Everenten's childhood was about as happy and carefree as a laborer's child could be.

Everenten lived on a joint farm and beaster's land. Technically, his uncle owned either the farm or the beasts, and his father owned the other. Technically, of his five older siblings and seven younger siblings, some of them were actually cousins. Technically he should have known the difference based on who lived at which house. But it's a distinction that he never makes in conversation, and not one that seems very important to his family either.

There was nothing extraordinary about his childhood worth noting. His eldest brother was searched at one time, but he turned it down. And because he turned it down, he did too when he was first searched at 12 turns. But when a younger cousin was searched and she accepted, well, that was a different matter entirely. Everenten wouldn't admit that he was terrified of the thought of leaving home, but he couldn't let his cousin-sister go to the Weyr alone because dragonriding was a MAN'S job, and she'd probably get homesick and devoured by all the manliness around, and so he could go with her for that little time. Supportive big cousin-brother. Yes, that was right and that was important. Family is important.

Everenten has not gotten over his homesickness, but his sister has not gotten so homesick as to ever want to return. He doesn't dislike the Weyr all the time, and he is no longer so confused that every day is a struggle where he has to over-compensate his fear and confusion by trying to be a big, tough, and absolutely crazy manly person. But neither has he ever missed an opportunity to try to talk his cousin back into going home, or one to try to bribe some rider into taking him home for a short stint.

Hi, just a quick note on Everenten - it would be great if you could reflect recent Pernese history in his background (how was he affected by the civil war, for example?), and as with Kylara it would be great if you could give us some information on his squiremaster. If you want to leave it vague so that you can potentially bring in a PC at some point, that'd also be cool.

Looking forward to playing with you!
